  • PC-only Skytrak user, help with options

I have been following the Skytrak saga for a while, the initial feedback (mainly the lack of PC and Sim software) almost drove me to purchase a GC2..but the high cost of that unit made me wait.

Now that Skytrak has delivered on WGT, and there is a PC beta, I am considering placing an order.

I dont have an iPad or iPhone. The only device I have that can run the software is a 2015 model Macbook Pro (the model with dedicated graphics card ATI 370x). I have VM Fusion that allows me to run windows 10. I installed the Skytrak PC Beta, and it seems to work. However there is no full screen option at the moment.

I also discovered an E6 golf demo, that appears to run totally independent of any Skytrak software. Is it correct that I can just install the E6 demo, and get a full course to play and a driving range, without the need for Skytrak software??

I am a little concerned with Skytraks record on delivering software updates. I cannot believe that it has taken nearly a year to get PC software out, and I hope that its not another 6 months before the PC stuff is ready for a full release (hopefully with a full-screen option!).

    1) Has anyone here taken the plunge without owning an iPad??

    2) Has anyone had luck running E6 in VMWare Fusion (or in a Bootcamp install)? If I used bootcamp, that would allow windows to use the dedicated GPU in the macbook, which may be required to get E6 running...

Take 5 mins and read the E6 thread. Yes, there is a user running a MAC who is using the E6 software.

TGC runs with Mac Bootcamp. It will not work with VMware of Parallels. make sure your GPU meets the minimum specs.

So my current setup is SkyTrak connected to a PC running the E6 demo. I have yet to purchase the GIP package, and I no longer use the SkyTrak iOS app or the iPad at all when I play. So it does seem like you might be able to get the same setup without owning an iPad. I'm hedging, though, because I did initially use the SkyTrak iOS app when I first received the unit. I'm not sure whether that setup process was in some way required for enabling the E6/PC setup. I guess worst case scenario, you could borrow someone's iPad for any initial setup if that's required. Another thing to keep in mind is that the E6 demo only lasts 30 days.

I am aware of that...and I am hoping that skytrak releases PC compatible software before then!

Worst case, I just continue to use the Skytrak PC beta, I assume that its not time-limited and will run until the full PC release comes out.

I will likely be getting the TGC simulation package when that is released, so I just need something to use from now until then.

Here's what full screen looks like. I will roll out full PC with v2.1 (office dog not included). I will not give a release date, but you will definitely have a lot to play with over Thanksgiving break.

Nah...she'll sit right there or stand in front of me to keep me from hitting. I think she thinks it's hurting me or something. If you saw my swing, you might agree.

The computer is nothing special. Because it was originally designed for iOS, it's a piece of cake for a PC to handle. I put our minimum specs in the PC beta thread I think. And I'm sure we'll do something around black Friday.

I have been following along with the Beta PC software and am also about to pull the trigger. It sounds promising that a more solid beta release may be coming soon. I dont have any of the Apple product nor do I want to invest in any. Really hoping that the PC version out now will work for now.I about ready to give it a try.

I got a fathersday special (with net return and pro turf ) for a few $ off when I bought it. The way I see is : Skytrak plus TGC plus 10 years of GIP or 5 years of GIP/WGT combination will bring me close to what I would pay for a GC2 alone.
