Could be me, but in the original picture the skytrak looks quite high on the wood compared to the mat height.

    That's quite an optical illusion.

Something still seems off based on the skytrak unit and the tee position.

Also, use only white balls. Turn on the alignment mode. Place the tee approx 1" behind the laser closest to your right foot.

Turn off alignment mode. Give that a try...........let us know. 10 hits will suffice.

part of the reason it looks higher is the edges of the mat curve down

I was able to take the skytrak outside this afternoon before work and hit about 50 balls. The skytrak definitely does not agree with what I am seeing in the ball flight.

    My observations -
10 out of 50 did not register at all.

A bad worm burner type hit seems to register flight and distance well enough

A pop up or higher launched driver shot registers well and is close in distance/flight

A lower shot that flies out 200 yards and then cuts hard right will often register completely backward on the skytrak and turn left. Had this happen 3 times.

Skytrak likes to over estimate curve on anything that doesn't travel straight out

The vertical launch on most of my shots does not match. I believe this is the underlying cause for the distance issues.

This shot for example from skytrak-
    148 Ball speed / 104 club speed / 3.7 launch / 4112 spin = 185 carry and 201 total yards

If you were to enter all the skytrak info into the flightscope trajectory program. Then just change just the launch angle. You suddenly get a shot that resembles what I cam seeing in real life.

11 deg launch changes the shot to 248y Total. 232.6 Carry.
now add the upcoming 2.1 update with (4%?) increase in driver distances. You end up with 257.92 yards. Thats is much closer to what I am seeing outside. A ball that travels to the 260-270 range.

Now for the positive side. I found overall the skytrak seemed to work better outside. I was at least getting positive launch angles. And for the most part flight was 90% accurate. Just over or under estimated here and there.

I am now wondering if it's a lighting issue or its possibly the ping g30 or the tour 65 shaft that's shinny. I have a friend coming over Thursday to help test it out with his clubs.

Club wise I still an able to hit my 6 iron farther then a 3,4,5 hybrid or a 3 wood on skytrak indoors. Haven't tested outside yet. They register similar to a driver with super low launch angles.

Recommend returning it for a replacement. You don't want to agonize over its inaccuracy for the life of the unit.

That is what I am leaning towards at the moment. I would love to hear from someone with skytrak on what they think or recommend. I don't want to send something back unless it it truly broken.

I figured I should add that I did have a few shots that read distance well outside. I had about 4-5 that read around 250y with around 2k spin and a 10.8 launch at 102-104 swing speed. So it does have the ability to read right here and there.

Hit about 15 this morning. Placed directly on the mat then leveled out.

back to zero deg launches and low 80's swing speeds and low 100's total distances. I can see where I am hitting on the net and there is no correlation at all to the skytrak. a difference of 3 foot higher on the net from 8 ft away still reads 0-2 degs launch.

There definitely seems to be a difference indoors. Outside I at least just get shorter shots. I tried unscrewing a light bulb above me and that did nothing. Is there anything physical on the skytrak itself I can check or try?

I will try again this afternoon with natural light in the room.

Hopefully I can call and return it Wednesday. The skytrak help chat line leaves a lot to be desired since they don't seem to know anything about skytrak. Its rather disappointing since I work nights and chat line is my only option 90% of the time. They don't even attempt to help you in the least bit.

I'm on the fence if I should replace it or just send it back and look elsewhere. I still plan on having a friend test it Thursday so at least I tried everything.

Just sent the demo unit I had back today for the exact same reasons as you describe. I did ask them (Skytrak) to field test the unit to see what they come back with. Before sending the unit back I had 2 friends who hit very constant and accurate irons over to see what they could do with the Skytrak, BLUF was the same results 25-30 yards short on what they normally hit. We also tried using cavity backs and blades to see if there would be any change in distance and sure enough....no change the numbers still showed 25-30 yards short. It will be interesting to see what Skytrak comes back with. I truly like the unit for what it is and the price point when compared to other equipment is a winner. However, I would like to get at least to within 5-10 yards of carry distance in accuracy.

I actually assumed the demo units would be better because at least they were tested for Sales Events and Demonstrations. I'm wondering now if they are really just refurbs.

I'm sure the units are tested before being showcased at events. However, outside factors can surely alter the unit pre and post demonstration. I've been to a lot of conferences where businesses showcase their latest and greatest product line for sale. These folks surely don't want to see their product fail during demonstrations. However, murphy's law does seem to arise at the worst possible time...especially when dealing with hardware and software products. This is the reason they always bring several backups in case one or more fail during demos. The shipping process back and forth with these demo units could have caused internal damage effecting various aspects. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm sure the units were field tested before being utilized as demos but I'm unsure if these demo units were field tested before being sent out to customers.

My skytrak unit was performing similar to yours and you seem to be going down the same path as me.

I had our Club's Pro (he carries a +3 handicap) hit some balls on the skytrak set up and leveled right on our #1 tee box.
After 20 shots with driver and all of them more than 40 yards short we were convinced it wasn't just me.

I'm convinced there are some bad units out there. Funny thing is I don't hear any body complaining about getting distances that are too long?

I shipped mine back last week, now waiting for a repaired or replacement unit.

Skytrak is going back to be looked at or replaced. Hopefully they figure it out.

Here is some data from the shots this morning. I had about a good hour to really test it out before going to sleep.
For reference my general average distance with each club

    driver- 252
    4 wood- 235
    4 Hybrid- 212
    7 iron- 160

    unit was set to-
    80% humidity
    80 degrees temp
10,000 elevation (testing to see if it helped. normally had it set to 600)

    Driver-

    4 wood-

    4 hybrid-

    7 iron-

Were those 7-iron mishits actual mis-hits? Or did skytrak just read them wrong ? (The 100 yard carry shots)

While I think my unit may be short (thats what she said)...its consistent with each shot. I am not seeing one shot read accurate, and the next read bad. But I have also hit 1000+ shots in the 5 days I have had the skytrak, and am very sore...so I need to re-evaluate my distances after my back heals up.

I think your numbers make it pretty clear that she is broken.

I had two fat shots, those were the short two. I was trying to really kill those two.

The problem gets worse expecially with the driver/woods after multiple low shots. Since you start really trying to lay into it.

I am also hitting around 15 different brands and makes of golf balls. It didn't seem to make too much of a difference expect spin and feel. Though sirxon balls tend not to register the most.

        Yes.

Based off impact height and distance from the net using an online calculator the launch angle should be just over 11 degree. From what I have seen if you hit about a 15+ degree shot it reads more accurate.

This matches what I notice. I am obviously not a tour pro but it's good comparison information. My 7 hits in the 15-16 range bases on net impact position. And it generally reads very close.

Had two friends come over and hit on the skytrak last night. both were not impressed with it.

Friend one hits a high draw. on skytrak it was same issues as me. low launch and never really went anywhere. and he hits twice as high as me generally. I would put him around a 16-18 launch and around high 90s swing speed.

Friend two has a nasty pull slice that he has played for 20+ years now. skytrak showed a baby pull fade with a low launch. he has a high 80 swing speed and launched between myself and friend one.

Yes, I agree. Hard to tell if it is hardware or setup related. Definitely not saying it isn't hardware, I've just never seen anything that could cause that, which would lead me to believe it was something setup or environmental.

Skytrak support said they would email me return info and slip yesterday around 5p and still nothing. I think I am more annoyed by the customer service so far then the bad unit itself. The guy on the phone was nice enough but really didn't know anything about the product, Chat knows absolutely nothing.

Ya, good luck with support. Best to try to get in touch with SkyTrak_Seth, although at this point in time I feel their focus is getting out E6 and working on their SDK's for Perfect Golf and TGC.

I haven't taken mine outside to verify distance but my demo unit seems to have all the launch angles quite high for all my irons. Might be why the distance is so low. Unless I just launch high with low spin with my irons. It is still 15-20 yards short on carry distances. Anyone else have launch angle seemingly too high? BTW it is leveled etc. Using an iphone 6 not sure that would make a difference.

Does anyone else have concern that so many people are reporting issues with demo units? Will the new units eventually lose their calibration as well?

Has SkyTrak confirmed hardware or calibration issues with any of these sent back units? Anyone know? I don't want to send mine back because it takes so long to get another. I would pay the $200 more for a new unit if it will work. I'm still not sure need to test outside to know for sure.

Well I have officially canceled my replacement rma and just did a full return. Kelley from customer support was awesome and made sure I had everything I needed to send it back without issues. Between others with similar issues and the pms I have gotten here and other places I don't want to deal with it. Especially after the warranty ends.

Now to decide if I should get a protee or go poor on a gc2.......

Hmmm...I haven't been on here for days. Sorry about that, but not sure who you saw. I'm really sorry to hear about the trouble you experienced with SkyTrak. I wish I could have caught it sooner, but sounds like you already moved on. I sincerely wish you the best of luck and please let me know if you ever want to try out SkyTrak again. I can say that there is nothing particular about any demo unit failure that couldn't happen to any other unit. There's really a number of possibilities that could result in damage, the most likely being shipping, as I have never seen a hardware issue in-house.

Part of the reason I was hesitant to send it back without testing everything I could. I had read in a different thread about most had no issues. I had tested everything I could possibly think of. Skytrak higher, lower, tilted left/right, forward/back. Ball position. I even rotated the hitting mat around a few times just to be sure. I really just wanted it to work.
        Working...
