  • How long will you wait??

Really just kind of a poll for those of you that STILL have a skytrak.

Are you considering getting rid of your skytrak? If so, under what conditions?
    1-Less than 3 months (i.e., already looking for another device/waiting for ES16 reviews) Votes 9, 32%
2-Within the year (it's going to get you through the current offseason, but plan to bail after) Votes 11, 39%
3-Never, your happy with it as is. Votes 7, 25%
4-Your not happy but keeping it because you are not willing to pay more for something else. Votes 1, 4%

When I pre-ordered my skytrak, I was very happy because i knew what it was capable of, I knew what hardware was required, I knew what I wanted the unit for and I was content with the other sim options I had at the time (opti and p3). However, after using the skytrak and seeing just how off the other two systems could be at times, i am really now wanting a ball tracking system with true sim play and have gotten really tired of the waiting game. Especially since others have said that TGC is ready to go. FWIW, i believe the one I have is accurate and I am satisfied with the performance. I thought I would be satisfied with just an accurate device with a range, but after having it for some time, I'm really wanting sim play.

So I'm the option 2 crowd or 1 if i could find a good deal on another device.

I'm in option 2. Possibly 1 but changing in the middle of winter is very unlikely because I figure I would lose weeks of having anything.

Realistically I'm in the option 2 camp, but I will be extremely mad with SkyTrak if they can't release TGC in 3 months. Which could lead to me jumping to ES16, depending on the user reviews on this forum mostly.

Option 3. I bought my Skytrak based on the functionality the company represented the unit as having at the time I purchased it. I assumed features would be added as the product matured, but there's no way I'd make a purchase decision based on what the unit may or may not become at some undetermined time in the future.

I completely agree when making a purchase. However, I think some people did not follow that same train of thought which added a lot of fuel to the fire. My priorities have now changed though. For me the unit works as advertised and it sounds like your happy with yours as well.

I'm at the #4 level for now, but that could change to #1 if SkyTrak doesn't come out with PG or TGC very soon. I'm holding out a small hope that ST will have something to offer at the PGA show later this month, but they haven't been quick so far to do the things they need to do to stay ahead of the competition. ST still has the price advantage for a unit that measures ball data reasonably well, and it looks like ES16 will be priced higher when it releases. If ST would get its act together and release a real sim that isn't too expensive, it would have a much better chance of holding off the competition - at least for now.

Option 2. Because of bad experience as early adopter for ST, it's making me hesitant to jump right into ES16 (which I otherwise might have) or else would also consider option 1 when ES16 comes out.

I'm option 5 - Already jumped ship. I may consider re-joining the Skytrak camp, but only after they get all their sim partners sorted out.

I'm keeping skytrak for this winter. Next winter (i.e. when my club closes in Oct/Nov 2016) if there still isn't a good sim option - I'll move to gc2 or flighscope. I've already started the research. Guess that puts me in category 2.

Im option 3. I have had my Skytrak for over a year, and am happy with it. I personally use it to practice in the basic range mode, and am not interested in playing sim rounds of golf.

I am option 1.. I just can't understand this company having a good unit and then they abandon it thinking they have done a good job. If I owned this company I would be embarrassed of how easily 2 girls working a lemonade stand could run it better..maybe

I'm between 1 and 2 BUT with a little bit of 4 mixed in there since I pre-ordered the thing, and even a used GC2 in the current market is more than double what I paid for the ST.

They said that e6 cloud would be launched in Q2 of 2015 with other sim partners later in the year. None of that came close to happening. That, coupled with the fact that the range software is still buggy and underdeveloped over a year later, is the reason I'm not in the Option 3 camp anymore.

My big problem is that I would have to explain to 'the boss' why I need to spend another $2,000 on top of what I already spent.

FWIW the unit is very accurate, but I didn't buy it to have only the same (although improved) half-baked range software a year later.

I'm a 2 trending toward at 1 very quickly epsecially once the details of the ES16 become available. As I've stated in the past I don't wish bad things for SkyTrak but the whole launch/Sim/customer support debacle has gotten to the point of laughable. Business is business and a little competition could seal the fate of the SkyTrak. Unfortunate because they had a huge opportunity to fill a void but many are now lining up to pass them by.

I am option 0, trying to get out now. This is why. I was looking at GC2 or Skytrak back in May 2015. I found this forum, which was really helpful on projector, screen, and mat. There were a lot of talks about Skytrak and TGC being tested and done(back in May 2015). People talking about Skytrak and TGC were very convincing on the quality of product of Skytrak. So I went with Skytrak. I bought it on my own and don’t blame anyone. When I got my Skytrak I thought it was 90% accurate on my shots using the Skytrak range. Though I didn’t buy the unit to just hit on a virtual driving range. I wanted SIM play as well as practice on virtual holes. Being able to hit 100 180 yard shots on an actual green is more enjoyable and helps me practice compared to 100 shots on a virtual driving range. So after checking this forum weekly all you read from the beta testers are how ready Skytrak is with TGC/E6/PG. So I had hope SIM play would be available. E6 demo becomes available which calmed me down. Though after using the E6 and Skytrak nightly playing the same course I started to get bored and looking for the full SIM version. While getting bored the little issues I found while using my skytrak started to annoy me more and more and more. How can Skytrak sell and test a product that has a laser dot where the ball should go and then say move it back and to the left for high ball speeds or move it forward for high flop shots. You need a 10 page manual on where to place the golf ball. How did you test with a robot and trackman and place the ball on the red dot during testing and now tell the users to move the ball around. I notice that anything form 150 yards in is hit or miss with the skytrak picking up the shot correctly. I noticed that hitting a driver/3w/3h followed by a wedge never picks up and takes 1-2 multiple times for the unit to recognize. The unit needs to be perfectly level and aligned correctly to use it, which is unrealistic if you plan on taking the unit anywhere. And the biggest issue is people beta testing skytrak and SIM software are able to post pictures/videos and give updates on the status when Skytrak is nowhere near releasing it. If none of us non beta testers knew what was being tested we wouldn’t be able to complain about it not being here. So all of that combined is forcing me out of my skytrak unit. I couldn’t image it getting any better. Look at WGT, still issues outstanding which have not been fixed. So what is going to say TGC/E6/PG finally get fully released and we find out xxx doesn’t work. Now we have to wait months for that to be fixed. Plus the fact that you sell a product with no subscription fee and introduce it later. It is hard enough to deal with the product let alone know you are paying right now which could go up 100-200 a year. I would rather spend the more money now on GC2 which has been proven to work and is available on all software. At the end of the day there is no one to blame except me.
