My first post. I have been reading here for awhile trying to make a decision on replacing my P3proswing in my indoor golf suite. I was very disappointed with that system. I thought the data was consistent and fairly accurate for the cost but I could not stand hitting off of the sensor pad. It has sat idle for a couple of years. I have not been willing to spend the 7k plus for a new launch monitor so when I saw the Skytrak at 2k or the flight scope xi at 2500 that was much more in my wheelhouse. The information I have gathered from this site has been invaluable, I am convinced that either will fill my needs nicely. The es16 was intriguing until the 4K price came out. I don't see the 1500 premium over the other two. I decided on Skytrak for a couple of reasons- I was concerned about the distance the flight scope needed to be from my net, also the flight scope does not give spin data and the Skytrak does.
I have two questions if anyone is kind enough to respond.
1) am I interpreting the above information correctly or missing any important variables that should sway my opinion?
2) is there any reason to wait to buy the Skytrak? A new version coming out?
Otherwise, I am ready to order.

I sold my skytrak due to their inability to release golf sim software. That being said, it s a great launch monitor for an indoor range until sim software is released.

To answer your last question, I've been wondering the same thing too.............Will there be a Version 2.0 of Skytrak? I guess it all boils down to how much of a rush your are in.........that's something you'll have to decide on.

I recently began lurking around this forum for several answers to the same questions regarding simulation... Best hardware, best software, etc. I am also on the fence about the best option in the 2000 to 2500 range. Problem is al the horror stories on Skytrak. I really want to get on board with it, but really want to try one. Not sure the XI is a good sim option, although priced decent. Too much to think about. Other than PC and launch monitor, my sim area is mostly done, just having too many second thoughts on each option out there

i run an asus intel i3 4gig ram laptop that is designed for web browsing and video chatting. cost 400 $ on newegg. skytrak range and e6 run perfectly fine.

As someone who also has been on the sidelines, I plan to continue to wait until SkyTrak discloses the cost for simulation with the partners with whom they state they are collaborating (apart from WGT). While the hardware cost is relatively good, a subscription-based model for simulation software access could add up to a considerable sum over time. In other words, the true cost of ownership for simulation can't presently be projected. Ditto for the ES16. If your objective is just to use the range features, then the costs and capabilities are known. That's what I was initially drawn to as a beginning golfer who hopes to use a launch monitor in conjunction with lessons to help perfect basic skills, but I suspect I'd eventually want the option of using the device for simulation, and might regret buying a product without fully understanding what the cost would be to upgrade to that capability. Further, the expression "vaporware" seems particularly applicable in the context of simulation integration, so a skeptic might choose to wait until an acceptably functioning product, at a known price, is actually available and proven satisfactory.

I'm waiting for now. Once PGA show is over maybe some new updates will be available on overall costs. If only that GC2 was a little less. Seems like the best option for accuracy.

i have a skytrak and like you was very nervous about it.

i love it. i love seeing accurate ball flight and i love being able to practice things indoors.

my only complaint is the syncing issue with shot data. I do know my carry distance but ive been working on my swing speed and would like to see this information.

as for the simulation issue. I bought this unit as a tool to get me ready for the upcoming season. I didnt buy it to play all the time. Im a 15hc and clearly have leaks in my game. I can successfully say inside 60 yards now I'm pretty spot on now due to the skytrak.

My swing is also coming together too, the skytrak is a great tool for experimenting on things and seeing different ball flights.


bottom line, you want to play sim golf, its not ready unless you want to play wgt or wade hampton

if you want a tool that'll help you with your game go for it. i always use the skytrak range, some people hate it. but whatever, the unit is what i expected it to be and more.

Totally agree ernie my skytrak has been flawless. Spend most of my time on the range working on my distances , like the look of the new range features and upcoming sims.

As a launch monitor the SkyTrak is hard to beat for the price. Now that you can export your sessions you can still analyze the data. The waiting to sync and golf simulation has been real problems for some owners. I really like mine for practice. The product has improved a lot since inception. Let us know how you like yours.

All the noise around sim availability is a side show.
It's a launch monitor, used with the ST range it's invaluable. If your serious about your game then you will spend more time working on it in the range app than playing pretend golf.
I know some very high speed ball strikers have had distance issues but by and large their a small group not many of us can swing like that. That said does it matter that much if ST says 280 yards instead of 300? What your really interested in is the shot shape did it draw? too much? Did it launch too low? Etc.
ST are actually responsive and actively improving it all the time. We've had numerous updates since inception and Seth takes feedback here and incorporates it into subsequent releases. It might not be as fast as everyone wants but who is fast in this space?
SIM will be delivered very soon so I think now is ideal time to purchase use the time to get your setup sorted use the range and get familiar with it, that should be perfect timing for the sim launches.
Value for money and sim options nothing comes close.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am mainly interested in the launch monitor portions. I am hopeful that the Skytrak will give me the numbers that would be helpful in feedback for club selection, dialing in short irons and my personal club fitting- getting the right shaft for a driver etc. Also, to just keep me in shape during the boring winters. Any simulation will be a bonus. I will give me impressions/review when I receive my Skytrak.

Some people love to hit balls on a range. But to really take your hcp down you need to feel preassure. We've all hit 5 consecutive beautiful drives on the range then pull hook one on the first tee. Sim comes close to creating that pressure especially if you select 'no mulligans'. Everyone has different priorities - for me and many others on this forum - sim is key to enjoyment and improvement.

I definitely second this one. The range has it's place, but as does the sim experience to create the feeling that you only have one shot to get it down the fairway, or onto the green.

The shot analysis capability is definitely worthwhile, but if one purchases a device with the idea that it will provide additional practice/entertainment value with simulation. it seems only reasonable to want to know what the cost will be for that before making a purchase decision. Comparing hardware costs alone for ST, ES16, or GC2 is relevant and useful, but is not the whole picture unless one plans to only use the hardware with whatever basic range or other software is included.

I have no regrets at this point on buying Skytrak. I'm very confident that my hdcp will reach new lows this year. We will see. I had issues with hybrid up in my basement took it to the local dome and it was spot on. Same as gc2 with a few more revs. 290 avg with both not a yard different.

i have felt some serious pressure playing wgt challenges. 9th and final ball to take over first. I had 5 firsts at one time. Ive failed plenty but I'm getting better hitting that shot under the gun.

Agreed 100%, I know lots of scratch range golfers. They are the double digits on the course.

Give me 30 balls to warm up after that, I want to feel the shot, play wind, high draw, low cut, push and pull. Let me flop it over a bunker, give me a 50' triple breaking putt. Oh ya, not on the range, just on the 'pretend golf course', Give it to me all day and every day.

Yeah I've got pressure playing WGT as well - par 4 2nd shot almost perfect, oh no don't get too close to pin or will be auto-putt 30 yards off green then I might as well have whacked it 30 yards over and still be one shot better off.

Probably belongs elsewhere, but has anyone used ST on a new iPad Pro? I'm still holding on to a 2nd gen iPad, and not sure it will perform too well with ST app.

I don't have the iPad pro, but I do have the smaller cousin, Ipad air 2. It works great and their is hardly any delay (unlike the videos I've seen for users using older generation Ipad.
