  • SkyTrak Distance Issue

I just bought a SkyTrak, and was so excited when it arrived. I charged it overnight, and rushed home from work the next dayto set it up. I am pretty tech savvy, so it all seemed to go smoothly...until I hit my first shot. 6 iron, 100 yards. I take another shot 90 yards, then 96 yards. I thought maybe something wasn't aligned properly. I have raised up the unit, lowered down to the floor, placed the ball forward/behind/left/right of the red dot, in the protective case and out, but I haven't been able to get Skytrak to give me a distance of more than 120 yards for my 6 iron. I switched to other clubs, and have the same issue of the distance seeming to be way under. Hybrid is going aobut 130-140 yards with Skytrak. I used Arccos all summer, so I know that I average 160 yards with my 6 iron, and 200 yards with my 3 Hybrid. The direction seems to be working well, if I hit a hook or slice, Skytrak is tracking that accurately. I gave up after an hour, and tried to figure out what was going on again last night. Unfortunately, I got the same results, no matter what club I used, the distance seems way too low.

I know people have commented that when you are inside, you don't swing like outside. My ceiling is 10ft, so I have no worries, and really do swing like normal. I have been hitting in my basement all winter, so this wasn't my first time hitting off of my mat. I find it pretty unlikely that my shots are all around 40-50 yards less then in real life. Unfortunately is is 20 degrees outside today, so I can't really go to a range to compare my shots to the real world. I would love to be able to use SkyTrak this weekend, and really don't want to return it, but it is kind of useless for me at this point.

I included some screenshots of some practice sessions and a picture of my setup. Do any of my numbers look way off? and therefore be causing the problem? Could it be a lighting issue? Any suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong would be really appreciated.
    Thanks!

Something not right...my unit works perfectly fine.. My distances may be off 5 yards here or there, but primarily based on roll. Could it be an issue with your firmware? Otherwise I would reach out to sky trak

Seems like your way short of what you expect , Take it to the range and have a hit there and see if your numbers improve or look more normal and compare against range targets if still no good- guess it might be defective.

You may be already done this, but try different types of balls.

Looks like your ball speed is not reading accurately. You should reset your Skytrak. Take a tiny paper clip. On the bottom of your Skytrak you will see a tiny hole in the bottom of the middle screw hole. Push the paper clip and hold for 10 seconds. The Skytrak should be turned on when doing this. You should see the lights flashing and it will reset it. Now try again. Make sure you have the latest version of firmware installed. Good luck!

Yep, try this first. Looks like ball speed is way off.

Thanks, I will try it tonight. I called Skytrak and they never mentioned that I should try that. Fingers crossed.

Ball speed is crazy low for a shot, that you say, should carry 155 ish.

Could be defective....but indoor effect I think is in play. Hitting balls into a net without any target or feedback on how long/short/left/right your shot has gone will have very little implications on whether or not you're swinging the same as outdoors.

I would bet it's a case of the indoor syndrome. My ceilings are 10' high, and guests always come over and hit short if they're not regulars.

Is your mat shifting? The side spin numbers are very high. Your back spin numbers are low. For 160 yards the ball speed should be up around 110 with minimal side spin 5-6 K back spin.

Yes goatbarn , I had crazy indoor syndrome too. It creeps up every now and then. I know its happening when I get the same distances from my 9 iron through 4 iron. The magic number seems to be about 120 yards for me.

please refer to this thread for skytrak tips and tricks. this will get you going on everything you need to do to problem solve your problem, i bet its your indoor swing /and device not level or aligned properly.

or its not level with your hitting surface or its being moved while on that surface.

Hey all, With all the bad press around Skytrak with its sim integration problem/sync issues with the pga show this year I wanted to write a post/ turn it positive

When I first got mine I also had a lot of concern about short distances. I found that the mat has a lot to do with the consistency of the shot. If you hit behind the ball, meaning hitting the mat at all first it will defiantly skew your distances. Over time I just kept at it and found after hitting clean solid shots it was giving me a more real life reading that I was used to seeing.. once you hit a solid clean shot, use that one as your guide. you will find over time, that the more you practice the more true readings you will see.. one tip that did help, in the settings I set my firmness to HARD and bumped up the altitude to 2500 ft.. this helped get my number with a clean shot pretty close to my actual outside shot. Good luck..

If your mat is sliding I would highly recommend you screw your mat on all four corners or minimum front two corners with concrete screws into your floor. I did this and my mat and Skytrak never move a bit.

Got mine yesterday also. Yardages seemed okay, but direction was something I normally don't see. So far it seems like a great piece of gear if setup right. The screen comes with a protective film, which I have not yet removed. I noticed some bubbles in it. Could that affect what the cameras are picking up?

I still haven't removed that film....no issues here.
