  • Skytrak Protective Case

Now the Skytrak protective case has been out for a while on their website for $129, how many people actually bought it? Happy with it?

Someone else posted that it may actually affect the ball distance? Ball was going further with Skytrak outside of the case than in the case? Anyone else with similar experience?

Other issues? I'm thinking of getting one, and don't mind paying $129, but want to make sure that it doesn't make Skytrak less accurate.

Don't know how I missed this post seeing as I look at the forums a million times a day haha. I may be able to do some sort of template and will give it a shot some time down the line, but that will be the next time I'm down at my dad's house, he loves a good hour and a half away from me and I'm not down there all the time. So probably wouldn't be for a while until I'd be able to do it. But for the most part we just used the template davray sent several of us forum members for the actual holes and just eyeballed the rest of the little side cutouts.

I'd be happy to forward the forward the template by davray to anyone who wants it (he seemed cool with us spreading the love), but my own template for the protector case might take a good while sadly

Has anybody located a 3rd party solution for purchase in the USA? I would love to find something like either the Japanese steel shield, the DIY plexi shield or that case being used in the trade show video posted a while back.

Not feeling real handy right now to make something and i'm terrible working with plastic anyway.

          Hmmm, guess not.

Could somebody please send me the davray template. I'll swing it back a local machine shop and see what they can do for me.

Well guys I am pretty miffed today.
My Skytrak took a hit to the lense whilst in its protective case.
The ball took a glancing blow from my club whilst practicing a swing in slow motion.
The Skytrak wouldn't register a shot after that.

Sent the Skytrak away for repair as I've only used it 4 times or so. Not a hundred shots.

Anyway, after one week of receiving my unit and not hearing anything I rank Skytrak to find out when I would get it back.

I was told it wasn't under warranty due to hitting it with a ball.

What? The protective case is supposed to protect as described.
There is no way I would have used this unit without purchasing and using a case as it was to much of a risk.
If they're selling this case without some sort of guarantee of its intended purpose then I think it is miss- selling.

I don't see why I have to fight to get the unit fixed and worrying about my £1700 purchase.
I'm waiting to hear from another manager and will keep you informed.

Thanks for reading and fingers crossed.

Will they fix it or only let you buy a new unit? What is the cost to fix?

I inquired about a replacement under warranty for the protective case after a stray shot took a big piece of it across the room, and was told damage wasn't covered under the warranty. It does seem inappropriate that a so-called protective case both doesn't actually protect the unit against reasonably foreseeable hazards in normal use, and that the case itself is unable to withstand such impacts.

I just finished my .25" thick Lexan (polycarbonate) cover. The skytrak reads through it if it's aligned right (which explains the sharpie marks). Don't repeat my mistake, which was to print the carving schematic without paying appropriate attention to scale! What a moron I am. Anyway, I had to calculate the holes by hand to the correct scale, since I didn't have a printer with me. It's not perfect, but I feel very comfortable about the level of protection.

A 1 ft square piece of Lexan was about 12-13 bucks on ebay with shipping and I used a drill and then a hacksaw between drill holes.

Now I need a better attachment method, but I've braced the polycarbonate shield between a low book-end and the skytrak, and that works great for me. Not sure why the picture is rotating on the website, but you get the idea.

                  Well guys.
I received my answer from Skytrak that they will not repair my unit as it was hit with a ball.
Fuming about it as the case is obviously poorly made.
I mean if we have to retrofit a Lexan screen why couldn't they design it into their case.

I'm gonna try and get my money back from my credit card company as the case is 'unfit for purpose'
Sorry if you see me slagging the machine off.

Do you mean they won't provide a repair under warranty at no cost to you, or that they won't repair the unit even if you paid for the service?

                • #40
They will repair at a cost to me but don't know what it will be.
Skytrak have quoted the small print to protect themselves:
SKYTRAK ASSUMES NO LIABILITY OR RESPONSIBILITY FOR INJURY OR DAMAGE CAUSED BY SWINGING A GOLF CLUB OR BY A HIT GOLF BALL, AND THE USER ASSUMES ALL RESPONSIBILITY TO INSURE THE PROPER AND SAFE SETUP AND USE OF THE SKYTRAK SYSTEM.

But as I say I purchased the protective case to protect the unit and this is what they are using:

The SkyTrak Protective Case is impact and scratch-resistant. This high quality, strong and durable case offers great protection from light drops, scratches and bumps.

But this is how it describes the case:
                  Skytrak Protective Case
Protects your SkyTrak from impacts and scratches.

                  Thanks

Hey guys, can somebody PM the davray sketch? I'm looking to build shank proof protective case for my skytrak. Thanks.

Hey guys, I got the window sketch that devray created. Looking to design a case out metal. I have some good 3d software so should be able to optimize it. I would be interested in a .stp file of the skytrak machine if anyone has one. Save me the tedious task of reverse engineering the box.

I made this but it doesn't have anything over the lens but I don't see where the Japanese steel version does either. I have a drawing designed to cut out flat and fold up as you see in the picture I could share, but this was done on a cnc router with v grooves at the folds. Maybe I should cut one out of clear and see if it works.

Yep, moving those weights around is too much like exercise! I aligned my board to the screen and I can easily slide the skytrak back and forth for driving or iron shots instead of messing with the mat. The long edge on the cover keeps it good and straight.

Oh ya, I see that now Mike. Good idea on the slide board. Just curious, why do you need to move the skytrak back and forth? I'm very new with the skytrak, so that may be why I don't know.

I'm very new myself, but I mostly adjust fore or aft of the tee hole if needed. It also allows me to pick up the unit and move it and goes right back in the same spot assuming I don't move that darn weight.
                      Working...
