Callaway Chrome Soft TruVis Balls

Ok, so this is a little weird. I was playing this weekend and remembered that I had been given a sleeve of those new Chrome Soft Tru Vis balls at the PGA show, the ones that have the red soccer ball design on them. I took out one and hit it on the skytrak app and it went farther than my regular driver shots travel on Skytrak. It was not just the ball, because I hit some regular chrome soft's and was back at the lower distances Usually see.

I am wondering if the design pattern is easier for the Skytrak unit to pick up.

If it's picking up the Chrome soft balls better, why would that translate into longer distances than a normal ball? I can't imagine that ball is actually going faster than a regular ball. So it seems like that ball must be confusing Skytrak - ie reading it worse. But on a related note, when I'm having trouble getting WGT to pick up shots around the fringe (fails to read the shot 4-5 times in a row) with a normal ball, if I put down a yellow foam ball, it will often pick that up.

are the chrome balls distance comparable to real life distance or are the soccer ones comparable? I bet its because the skytrak has more of a solid image on whats happening with the ball vs a blank one.

The soccer ones are much closer to my real driver distances, and picked up my draw much better.

I don't think it can see red, so I believe the ST just sees a ball with black markings, no different that a regular ball. I may be wrong about that though. davray666 would know for sure if he's still around on this forum

Spudly Can you please share the backspin numbers and launch angles for the two different ball types? I have found that ball softness has a significant impact on spin, launch angel and carry distance.
My guess is that the True Vis are harder and this will give you spin and launch angles that result in more distance.

No, the spin numbers are higher on the Truvis balls, not a huge amount but enough to be a difference, especially when it come to my draw.

Most soft compression balls say they spin less. Lower spin = greater distance. Got to be part of the explanation.

When you say you are comparing two of the exact same balls, are you actually 100% sure of that?

Look on the net at the claims that are made for the 2016 version of the Chrome ball. I'm not one to believe marketing claims generally, but if they have been able to make the changes to the 2016 model that they claim vs. the previous model and they aren't just blowing smoke... that could be your explanation right there.

Again guys, two sleeves of brand new chrome balls from the PGA show this year, one regular, one the new Truvis soccer ball pattern, exact same ball except the markings.

Spudly you only see a difference with driver? Are both balls going the same distance with your irons?

It really only seems to be the longer clubs, driver and 3 wood and really drops off after that.

I was getting 8 yards more distance on an 8 iron with the chrome soft vis vs any other balls.

Okay, not very scientific but I used a sharpie on a chrome soft and drew multiple solid black circles on the ball until it looked like a soccer ball. I could not find any discernible difference is terms of shot distance.

What you really should do is hit these same balls with a GC2 and see what it says.

I'm not 100% convinced that you can say the Regular Chrome Soft balls are the same as the Chrome Soft Vis, even if they were obtained at the same store. Manufacturer's are forever coming out with the newest and greatest, 'the 2016 model is xx % farther', stuff like that.

In fact, TeaPeg 's not so scientific method isn't that bad since he is using the same ball, but with different markings, and getting no difference in distance. that would tend to prove that the markings on the ball are not the reason for the difference in distance.
