  • yet another issue

Boy i wish i was having the same great experience as most are having. My new issue is (hope there is a fix other than what ive tried) Im connected in network mode via wifi, app and skytrak seem to start up fine and connects with unit (three green lights on) laser on. As soon as i go to practice/ challange or wgt it will just keep going back and forth from all green lights with laser to solid red/yellow/green (connecting to device) then it will connect for a moment and show laser then unconnect back to solid red/yellow/green. If i put it in direct mode it works as it should. Any thoughts? Oh and i have uninstalled all apps as well as hard reset on unit then reconnected everything and it still does the same thing. Just getting frustrated with all the issues im having but i can tell i will enjoy this once all is worked out

How good is your wifi connection at your simulator setup area?

really good. I did work fine once before on network mode but i only play about 3 holes on wgt and about ten balls on range (just got the unit)

I had a very similar issue that I solved by changing my router so that it always reserves the same IP address for the skytrak unit. Allowing it to get a random IP via DHCP was causing issues just as you described. I made this change a month ago and it has been rock stable ever since.

oh jesus! you might as well said that in chinese ... get i will have to youtube certify my self on changing router settings

i would think it was wifi signal for two reasons, its only 10' from router (shows strong signal) and it goes from all green to solid red/yellow/green which in the instructions is that is connected to network and is trying to connect to device.

Have you tried giving it its own id instead of allowing the network to assign a random id each time? I'm not a computer guru and I couldn't even play one on tv, but I've read that in a few spots it seems if my poor memory serves me correctly.

First things first before changing your router... Log into your existing router and check what channel it's on. If it's set to auto, change it to manual and select channel 1 first (fastest but least stable). If you still experience issues, try channel 6 or 11 (11 is most stable but slowest)

side note, im on the line with customer support they told me i HAVE to put the unit in direct mode if i want to just use the skytraks app but i know yesterday that when i got everything hooked up and was on network mode i went back and forth between skytraks app and wgt (closing each when i switched) but i never put it back into direct mode and the skytrak range worked.

I would say tech support is wrong. I have never used direct mode with skytrak, regardless of software (Skytrak range, TGC, E6, Perfect golf). I use network mode always, and other than the DHCP issue have never had a problem with it.

When I had my skytrak I would go back and forth between the skytrak range and TGC using network mode with no problems.

I feel that way about any type of home repair...I am dangerous with a hammer. However, the static IP address or static dhcp address is something I suggest you try. If you know how to get into your routers interface I can walk you thru over the phone. The directions to login to router should be on the back of the router. You could also search you tube

static DHCP on netgear router for example. Skytrak should really give us a way to provide the unit with a static IP address not via DHCP or our router. OH well.

Sounds like you might have gotten it to work in network mode?

Mine is same - once connected in network mode (where wifi signal is strong enough it will always automatically connect in network mode), I can't put it in direct mode anymore unless I go somewhere where there is no wifi and direct mode wifi signal from SkyTrak will show up for me to use to connect in direct mode.

that was what i thought skytrak range works in network mode. I unplugged my router and plugged it back it and that has seemed to work. if it keeps doing it i will look in to changing the router settings, thanks for the help

yeah check the connection strength/ ip configuration. and try not to create thread names that make it sound like the skytrak is the problem because clearly its a network issue with your hardware.

I found that comment rude and condescending. Looking at your posting history, you seem to be a overly defensive when anyone suggests a possible issue with Skytrak. Its a strange thing, to see people that get personally involved in defending the honor of some product.

                        I dont know..maybe just relax a bit.

I'll second that Shardak... I work in IT and troubleshoot issues every day. Just because one person has an issue that's network related, doesn't mean that the next person with the same issue has the same underlying problem. This is why this forum is here... to help each other and make new friends while doing so. People make suggestions of what has worked for them... others are still stumped by certain issues. Even I find it hard to get my head round how a wifi connection is more stable than a hard wired usb link, but in this case, it is.

The issue here may be router related, but it may also be the skytrak, and you will only find that out by trial and error. Eliminate what you think is the cause, and if you still have issues, keep trying other links in the chain until you fix it.

Sorry to hear you've been having troubles with your SkyTrak - yeah, it certainly does sound like a router-related issue. I know that stuff can be kind of daunting. Did you get it resolved? Just a few things from what I've read:

                      1) If the unit is in network mode, you can always revert it back to direct mode in the SkyTrak app (when it's connected) by going to device connections > Direct mode. You'll see the unit reboot.

                      2) If the unit is in network mode, you should be able to use either the SkyTrak app or WGT (just don't have both open at the same time). However, you can't use direct mode with WGT because it needs internet. Direct mode in SkyTrak app is totally fine.

                      3) If the unit is red/yellow/green, that means it's connected to your network successfully. Make sure your iPad then goes back to that same network (easy to overlook if you have 2 networks, like a 2.4G and 5G)

Just let me know if you need help and I'll be happy to assist. Looks like you've gotten a lot of good advise here already.

                      -Seth
