  • Need to Buy PC/Laptop for Sim, any recommendations?

I need to buy a computer for the SIM software, I don't want to build one. Has anyone bought one off the shelf, Amazon, Best Buy, etc., that works.

I would say first decide if you want a laptop or desktop. Desktop would be much cheaper.

    Newegg has good pre-built systems.

    These also look good: https://www.originpc.com/

Anything with an Nvidia 970 GPU or better would work for all current sim software. I would recommend the newer 1070 if possible.

If I were buying something today I would probably go with this Alienware Alpha (r2) for $599: http://slickdeals.net/f/9030303-alie...-free-shipping

It's about the size of a Mac Mini, runs a desktop 4GB GTX 960, 8GB DDR4 memory, Intel i5 quad core processor, built in dual band 802.11ac, and you can upgrade the graphics later with the Alienware Amplifier external video card enclosure (https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-9R7...dp/B00PCJXN0I/). Watch out for Windows 10 if you're looking at getting TruGolf E6, but you'd be set for TGC and JNPG as-is.
      deal $799.99 - $100 w/ coupon code ALPHA100 - $100 w/ slickdeals rebate = $599.99 + free shipping specs: i5-6400T CPU 4GB GTX960

The video card is the most important item for a TGC computer. GTX 970 or better. You should also stay above 3.4 GHz with the processor (intel) and 3.8 with AMD.

I use a Skylake i5 running at 2.7 GHz with the 970. The CPU is never maxed out. So minimum 3.4 GHz is not needed and in fact is overkill in my experience.

For gaming in general you should stay above 3.4 GHz...... I guess that TGC is designed for the Xbox one and PS4 that runs less than 2GHz. TGC is poorly optimized for the PC IMO.

be careful as I went in to do a 4k build out for the future TGC 2 and now i am in the stupid computer 3000.00 + it was fun until i sat down and went through the boxes before the build out and added it all up, and still need to upgrade projector when then are reasonable

are you trying to buy something to get by or are you trying to build the ultimate simulator, on any laptop your limited to what you can do and if you ever decide to go and upgrade your kind of stuck on what a laptop can do for an upgrade, one thing to keep in mind something goes wrong with a laptop you can not easily repair and replace hardware. the 1070 for a laptop does not equal up to a 1070 for a desktop, also if you are looking to anticipate the 4k reality a laptop might not hold up. I have just finished up my computer set up and its crazy the amount of options i have installed on it for the simulator playing, I really did a bunch of homework on this as my wish list was extensive and I found laptops at qvc for monthly that were adequate, desktops at frys and newegg that were prebuilt but i ended up building it from scratch and yes I did go overboard on it but you can really build one at the 1200.00 mark and always upgrade certain parts as needed really easy.

The 1070M or 1080M is not as powerful but the standard 1070 or 1080 in some of the MSI laptops is...

I just picked up a Syber Vapor Xtreme from cyberpowerpc. You can pick any gtx 1060 to 1080 and get great results. Take out the Hdd and swap for ssd (grab the m.2 pcie) and upgrade power and fans. It will set you back anywhere from 12-1800 depending on your GPU but it will run flawlessly and it's prebuilt. Love the steam controller and small qwerty keyboard for sim.

ok I here about this steam controller a few times and the qwerty control is this to control the menu, clubs and pretty much the game as your mouse and keyboard are away from your tee box.

Let me say this.....go as big as you can!!

I just upgraded to the GTX 1070 with a I-7 Quad Core with 16M memory. Gamer motherboard with tons of 3.0 and 2.0 usb ports, etc. I went from an AMD processor and GTX 750. The difference is night and day.

I now run with Object setting on 3, with all high quality settings plus I am recording my rounds with webcam shot and running at full 60 FPS. No stuttering, the ball runs smooth in the air and on the ground. Plus, I can go from turning the computer on to hitting balls in about 45 seconds......I built the system for about $1000 (1070 $395, I-7 core $350, box $40, Motherboard $110, plus misc)
