Using Skytrak outside

I'm just in the process of setting up a back yard hitting range and am pretty interested in buying a skytrak to use. I am just wondering if anyone here uses the skytrak outside regular? There are some older threads with people mentioning mixed results from them so wondering if any recent software updates have improved this? I will be able to provide shade to the unit and often it will be used late afternoon or evening (after the kids are in bed!) so hopefully that helps?

I also plan on using it short game practice in the garage but as I only have 8 foot ceilings I am pretty limited on options there!

I took it once to the driving range - no thanks. I see the skytrak as an indoor consumer device. For this it kicks ass. For anything else...need to spend 3x the money. Just my thoughts.

With that said. I think if you found a shady area in your yard the skytrak might work well.

I use it outside exclusively and really have not had many problems. Couple of things to watch out for though:
- if very sunny outside, make sure sun shines from behind SkyTrak not into it; and
- if it's really hot outside, make sure don't leave your unit under the hot sun for too long to avoid potential overheating.

DISCLAIMER: I do typically only use my SkyTrak outdoors in morning or afternoon, and not under midday sun and heat.

Thanks, that is what I am after. My intent is to use it on the shady side of the house and have a beach umbrella I can set up to the side so it is in full shade. I think it should work ok.

I have used my ST outside quite a bit. I would take my mat outside and hit to known distances, trees, stakes, cones. Loved it. Worked great. I never had issues with sunlight. It was very helpful to see the full flight of the ball and see the ST figures as well.

Anyone know if the unit will work in the dark? I will have two porch lights which are relatively bright, but its getting dark early and want to use it outside. If not, will a simple home depot flood light work?

works in the dark just fine. Obviously haven't tried it in pitch black since it's hard enough to hit the ball when i can actually see it.
