  • Skytrak + Perfect Golf or TGC

    Hi Everyone,

New to the board, just received my skytrak + net return yesterday

Super excited, love the unit so far. Want to get a simulation software.

I'm between TGC and Perfect Golf. Main uses for both:

    1) Play variety of courses on my own
    2) Have friends over to play friendly matches etc
    3) Eventually play online tournaments etc.

I assume both have the ability to do the above. I have read reviews on both, but want some input. I am also scared of the $1k lifetime pricetag on TGC. Thats a huge commitment (I love golf), and I'm scared that in a year or so the novelty of a sim unit wears off. Maybe this fear is unfounded, but I'm sure someone previously shared that sentiment.

As for PG, $250 for the year subscription wouldn't break the bank, if I still love it, I can shell out $1k later for TGC.

Let me know if I have it all wrong and should just jump head first into TGC. Or if buying PG for 1 year $250 is a better move.

Any major pro's or con's for going in each direction?

    Thanks!

TGC If your a golf nut, you'll still be using it in a year.

I don't think there are any worries of the novelty wearing off. TGC is great and the developers are always coming out with fantastic renditions of real life course.

I would suggest JNPG. They are making major strides in the overall physics of the game and now with course forge out in public, new courses are coming fast and furious. You can always buy TGC later, as you said.

Since you will own TGC you can sell it a year from now and still be cheaper than renting PG.

I would only rent PG if that's the one you really want. Renting PG and buying TGC later just wastes money.

When you say "sell it a year from now", you can actually sell the licensing to someone else?

Protee will let you transfer the license to anyone. But you have a Skytrak...so need to make sure they (skytrak) don't have any funny restrictions.

I own both (I say "own"...I guess I am just renting PG).

For me, TGC wins in every category.

Graphics, physics, UI, courses, sound are all better in TGC.

PG never looked right or felt right, but maybe thats partly due to having TGC for several months before I tried PG. I bought PG and could only bear to play it for a few rounds I only play TGC now.

However....be aware there is a TGC 2 coming out probably 1 year from now. There will likely be some cost involved to upgrade (hopefully not a full $1k purchase..but who knows). So maybe, just maybe, one year of PG until TGC 2 comes out would not be the craziest idea.

Random question to the TGC owners:

Will network mode through ST link directly to your computer over wifi for TGC? Or will I have to in some way utilize a usb cable plugged directly into the CPU?

Similar to how ST works with their app without any plugs, will ST work with my CPU over the wifi network and transmit shot data etc?

No need for USB. I play TGC with my Skytrak connected to my PC through wifi. Works great. Same goes for the Skytrak PC app.

Oh BEAUTIFUL! Guess I won't need that 20 foot usb extender cable after all. Playing outside and my gaming computer/wireless router is ~ 10-15 feet away. My CPU Is hardwired into the router which I assume would work as well.

I'm new to all of this as well and I started with PG. I was happy with it until I tried TGC. Definitely the better option right now. Maybe PG will improve as it evolves

I also prefer TGC despite having PG first. The tournaments on TGC are so well run and the dialogue on here makes it that much better.

TGC all the way. PG just doesn't give that same golf feel in my opinion.

I'm with Shardak in that I felt more comfortable with TGC because that's what I owned first. Have gotten more involved in JNPG and I really like both. If I only had one choice I would "buy" TGC. Tournaments are gear and board more active over here. Although PG is getting better both game wise and on the board. I like having both.

Thanks for all of the replies. Guess tgc it is. I read that it is transferable if I want to either get another unit (gc2) or sell my license key. Is that true?
