I get lessons at golftec and all my drives are 270+ on their device. On the course I do average the same. On skytrak my longest drive is 260 but averaging about 230. I really want this thing to work!!! Leveled, googled the crap out of this.

a single like isn't good enough for this post. spot on.Originally posted by SomaPLR View PostIt is time and time again USER error. What I mean by user error basically means you are swinging entirely different or apprehensive when inside on the SkyTrak at home vs big open spaces outsideor at a Big Box Store. It's either that or you don't hit the ball as far as you think you do - it's one or the other. OR you play at some magical place where the fairways are like airplane runways and you get massive rollouts. My initial drives were "only" in the 280 range when I first got the SkyTrak, mind you I can carry the ball close to 300 yards on a warm day outside. Even as a long hitter, I was apprehensive, mainly with driver, with really letting the club "go" when I swung inside my house. It took me about 3 months to mentally get used to it - and it happened subconsciously rather than in an instant. You are swinging differently, its not the machine...I promise you.
Make sure you tee up the ball about 1" behind the red dot on drives with the logo pointed towards the machine.
This was a driver session I had 2 nights ago...and my garage was 40 degrees on a 10 degree night in Ohio. Again, my ballspeed numbers are typically in the 170s, but in a 40 degree night, when the ball is cold and so am I, this is MORE than accurate. I have two other plus golfer buddies who have a SkyTrak as well, they have no problem with distance issues. Most people just think they hit the ball farther than what they do.
Avg Carry 275 yards - Total drive 298 - this is in 40 degree weather where the ball doesn't jump as much. SkyTrak is accurate.
And for !@#$ sake people, please focus on your CARRY distance and not your roll out distance. Roll out distance can very WILDLY from courses, to conditions, to separate parts of the country or world. Always focus on BALL SPEED or CARRY distance. You never ever see PRO's calculate their rollout distance.

Soma pretty much dropped the mic on this one, but I'll leave this here just to further support his post.

This should be reading material before any person buys a SkyTrak, or SkyTrak should send this out in its packaging.Originally posted by Vincent_Vega View PostSome pretty much dropped the mic on this one, but I'll leave this here just to further support his post.

And god forbid this whole "boost" thing...I'm not even sure why it's on there.

Ok, for all the trolls with the he don't hit it past 240 and doesn't know reality probably should go elsewhere. I agree this is the case with probably 80% of all golfers however. So I would post my results from my findings but because there are way too many unproductive people on here and even Skytrak was a little on the same page I will not. Good luck.

The unit measures the ball speed, spin axis, launch angle coming off the machine...it does not care which club you use. The machine wouldn't work for one club and not the other. It'd be like saying that if you kicked the ball with your left foot or your right foot...the machine had bias against one of your feet. All it does is measure the ball. It's not trolling, it's science.

people like sticking up for their equipment. i wouldn't let it bother you. i have used protee, skytrak, es16 and finally settled on a gc2. i thought skytrak was great when i used it but that doesn't mean yours couldn't be defective. post your test results. i'm sure there are many of us here who'd be interested to see what the results were.Last edited by inorkuo; 12-16-2016, 10:58 PM.

Please post your findings or at least your test method. Some of us do want to try and help figure it out and help those in the future.
We have seen this time and time again though. People still refuse to believe they swing differently inside their own home vs outdoors or even at other indoor facilities.

Just my thoughts...
1) I agree most overstate how far they hit driver (and probably other clubs too).
2) getting used to swinging indoors on sim takes time and could result in people thinking their distances are low.
That said, I believe my SkyTrak understates carry on driver by about 15-20yds.
I've been using GC2 and sim for 15 months, so not new to this. Bought a SkyTrak 3 weeks ago which has proven very similar to GC2 for all my shots except driver where ballspeed and carry is slightly down from GC2.
I only see this variance on driver and have no problem with it, given the price point of the SkyTrak.

Same day, 2 minutes from each other so no issue with swings, temperature or anything.
I don't recall exact ball speeds but I believe SkyTrak was something like 2mph lower on ball speed.
I can do a little more scientific testing but don't feel the need to. Simply accept my drivers on SkyTrak are a little lower carry and final distance for me.
If it helps I hit drivers with very low spin (sometimes less than 1500) and quite a low launch angle.

Let me say that I totally trust SkyTrak's numbers for all clubs (except maybe driver); and only by trusting the numbers then I can improve my game.Originally posted by V8burble View PostThat said, I believe my SkyTrak understates carry on driver by about 15-20yds.

Now regarding the driver, it's still the only club I feel SkyTrak might be a bit off (seems ball speed and therefore distance a bit low), but I still try to trust the numbers anyways. Now I wonder is the problem (if any) with the driver because the ball is on a tee?

It shouldn't be - I don't have any issues and my SS can get up to the 120mph range. It's a lot warmer today in Ohio and I'm going to do another drive session here later and post results. Show the difference between a freezing garage and a not so cold garage. I should be able to put up some 300 yard carry numbers today.
i am trying to help people that think they have issues. For anyone that thinks they have issues do a session and then post your shot history settings like I did. Not just one swing and we'll take a look at the numbers.
one of the reasons I'm so adamant about this situation is that I've had about 10 different guys over at the house for practice sessions. the majority of the guys that were high single or double digit handicaps thought my machine was 20 yards short with driver. I'd get up bang a few and then they realized it wasn't. It's been a real eye opener for them. It can't work for me and then 30 seconds later not work for them.Last edited by SomaPLR; 12-17-2016, 05:32 PM.

OK... here's something weird... I put my Skytrak on the mat today that I was hitting off of today. Previously, it was on the garage floor, in the SKytrak case, with the legs raised to level it to the mat I was hitting off of. I've been hitting balls out there all summer, fall, and now winter.
Today, I rearranged my mats and put the skytrak on the same mat I was hitting off of... I know sometimes that causes issues but I've never had such luck driving the ball. I had to lower the legs of my skytrak as it's on the mat now. Anyway, long story short, ALL of my clubs were more representative of my real life distances. Driver was carrying much farther... easily 230 to 250 the majority of times but my irons were doing better as well. Is the Skytrak that sensitive that it was slightly off the same height of mat in my previous set up? I did buy one of the blemished units almost two years ago...
And before you ask SomaPLR, , I'm only looking at my carry information. Went to the Protee Range where it's flat as well and found the same thing. Also, the temps are as cold if not colder than usual. I'm in Canada and it's about -5 Fahrenheit outside right now and I couldn't carry it in the summer time when it was 75 degrees Fahrenheit in my garage (it's about 43 degrees in my garage today) . Nothing has changed except my moving the skytrak to a possibly SLIGHTLY different height. Even that can't be that much. Most of us know we're looking at Ball Data... most people would do their homework before dropping $2000 on a purchase.
My swing speeds can get close to 120 mph and I'm using a white Taylor Made Driver... both of which can cause problems for the hardware according to Seth. It's not always the user error when people have questions about it.. it is possible the Ball Data isn't recorded correctly don't forget if the hardware is malfunctioning or quirky.

I too also have a problem with short distance on my skytrak and not just with driver.
Did some practicing today with a high handicap buddy of mine. I found the reason my distance is so short is because i am getting crazy spin numbers. My average driver spin today was 4k-6k and several hits even higher. I thought maybe it was just the occasional misread as i have noticed some crazy spin from time to time when i actuallu check it. Today i checked almost every shot and it was very rare to get a normal spin reading. My buddy have several driver shots with 10k and even some 11k back spin lol. I cant even get that with a wedge. I think this is why my distances are short.
SkyTrak_Seth is there any way to do a back in play with a skytrak. I want to keep using skytrak but i strongly believe i have a hardware issue probably from shipping maybe. I just dont want to be down from playing tournaments for a week or two. If i call customer support i always seem to get someone that doesn't
seem to care just wants to do a return or sens it in and wait for a repair.

I believe they offer back in play for SkyTrak. But the numbers you posted below look correct. I mean, not ideal, but not misreads. Are you using any type of mark on the ball to help it read the spin? I would definitely face the logo toward the unit prior to hitting.
-
Yeah it was me haha. Swinging inside had me messed up pretty bad. I did speak with a rep that said they don't offer back in play that it only applies to sky caddie but either way my bs is down around 2500-3000 now with driver and back to a draw instead of a fade. Well most days any way.
