  • SkyTrack - Full Metal Jacket protection shield

Finally had a chance to finish a prototype of my SkyTrak protection. (I had my last unit take a ball to the IR lens while IN the protective case from SkyTrak - it didn't work again.)

Being lucky enough to own a business with a good bit of sheet metal equipment, and finally the time. (having a party this weekend and need to protect my unit!) The leveling feet need a bit wider spacing, and I need to test that the unit still reads shots. I went with a minimum of openings to try to keep balls from sneaking through the front. I popped off the IR lens so that it's easy to see the parts that need to "see" - I'll obviously be putting it on before testing. Still unsure if I'll screw the unit to the base and leave an air gap, or use foam on 5 sides to isolate the SkyTrak from the steel.

I added a lip in the front so I can drop an alignment rod in for a visual reference.

Holes on bottom need adjustment, and maybe slotting to allow the SkyTrak to be adjusted to the base for alignment.

My heart stopped beating I think when I heard the ting of the metal but the light never even went out and it read the next shot without issue...ditto on the next one he shanked into it.. I wish my drywall was as tough lol... As you can see by the scores, they're not very good but I wasn't worried after it got hit and kept running smooth...
Lol.. It'll be a cold day in hell before any high handicapper goes any where near my Skytrak

Unfortunately I don't have any friends who golf very well, but it's still a great time playing even if I end up sitting there waiting most of the time while they hit 2-3 shots a piece lol..

  • Ok awisnia, I think the FMJ works great but just providing you w further feedback as requested. Earlier I sense at times w the FMJ the SkyTrak seems to read excessive left side angles. Today I hit a simple 40 yard chip that hit the middle of my screen yet the reading from SkyTrak was an excessive 17 degrees left side angle.

Now again I'm no expert, so just seeking your expert view on this. Do you think the FMJ might at time partially block the camera such that only portion of the ball is captured in the image. And in this case, because only portion of ball is captured in image, SkyTrak thinks that the ball is smaller (i.e., further away) and hence calculates an excessive left side angle as I've never seen it calculate an excessive right side angle. You think this might be possible?

Without the FMJ, I've sometimes seen bad reads w regards to excessive or zero side spin or back spin (can usually be chalked up to dirty ball, etc.) but have never seen problems w excessive side angles. Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

awisnia, unable to replicate as have only really witnessed this on 2 or 3 occasions (but always an excessive left side angle on ball hitting middle of screen) since putting on FMJ, but will try to see if I can somehow replicate and report back. Could be just normal occasional SkyTrak misreads, but because each time exaggerated left side angle, just wanted to bring to your attention in case it might be something. Thanks.

Cheers - I really wish we had access to an Iron Byron for repeatable swings - or had a way to grab the photos that the SkyTrak software uses. That would be fun!

"a way to grab the photos that the SkyTrak software uses"

That would be really fun and useful indeed. I think someone on this forum (@davray or someone else) figured out how to get the photos? Gotta search forum as I could be wrong.

Totally. But our case is quite a bit different on the front, so no worries there. This is what we had at the PGA show. Sorry I'm just now getting around to posting it. I'm not even going to get into time frames because we all know how that goes, but it does exist

I know it's hared to tell from this picture, but it sure looks like a ball could still impact the lens.

      Probably just perspective, but nope

It's cool seeing how the guys with inside info went about designing this, looks very technically designed. Obviously guessing that is the right hand only version and you will do both sides for a version you sell. But interesting seeing all the different routes of everyone's case designs and still getting similar results (I'm assuming)

Yea whoops, was outside when looking at the picture and couldn't tell there was a cut out on the other side too

    • SkyTrak_Seth thanks for sharing - does look similar, but given what we're all trying to do and knowing what we know, it should. Actually our latest test grills have a similar keyhole over the trigger laser.

Is that some sort of plastic covering the top so as to not block the wifi antenna?

Are you getting to spring training with the baseball stuff??

        • I have been using my FMJ for a while now, and I must say, I love it! It is very easy for me to get my unit at 0 degrees/0 degrees so I know my unit is perfectly level. Since I switched over to network mode from USB, the only missed shots are ones I hit terribly (really fat or topped). I just played 18 holes at Pebble Beach today, and not one unread putt. I did not notice ANY of the consistent 3 degree right or left some have experienced except for those putts I KNEW I pulled or pushed.

My only issue is learning how hard or soft to hit the damn putt! I tend to blow it past the hole a lot! Only left about 5 putts short.

dws90 Just checked with a guy in Scotland - it was additional $39 for shipping/duty.

Ebay says it's $24 if you pay it with them then you don't get any on delivery to the UK with their global shipping programme. Will probably do it via that

dws90 Oh yeah - just checked and it shows $14.42 for shipping - does it add another $10 for duty in your cart? Wonder why he said it was $39 - it was via GSP on ebay. Okay, better news then!

          • Playing with some V5 designs for testing - found the actual 7.62 dimensions - too much private Pyle??

            • Just got my skytrak today along with my full metal jacket protector. Really bummed to see
that the skytrak needed to charge six hours before usage. Will have to wait until tomorrow to hit it.
the full metal jacket is well made.

No way, i think its a great way to differentiate your product from others out there. Also for when you make FMJ's for other stuff like phones and tablets!

              • Where exactly do we order this?

Link in this post on classified forum - thanks.

I've made a case for my SkyTrack that I'm happy with - some of you have asked about buying one. My kids want to commercialize it (12 and 15 year-olds - that watch

                  • I'm from Scotland and ordered yesterday. Total charge from Ebay was £107, I hope that avoids any additional fees!

Interested to find out where all the UK users are - once I get setup on TGC will need some buddies!
