Low Spin Flyers

I am not much of a forum person, but being as I just bought a skytrak, and there are lots of knowledgeable people on here, I thought I would ask a question about something that shocked me. I wanted to do some for fun, ball comparison testing and grabbed 3 "premium" balls and one of my wife's pinnacle ribbon balls (white not pink in color). Hit 9 irons off a mat, until warmed up. Hit 3 premium balls first, all similar results. Then hit the pinnacle ribbon, and got crazy low spin!

While I had 20-23 degree launches with premium balls, I got 30 degree launches every time with the ribbon. I had 7500-8000 spin with premiums, but 2500-3000 with ribbon ball. Ball speeds stayed close across the board. Is this a flyer or does skytrak have a hard time with certain balls. Carried that thing 20-30 yards more than the others.

I found the same results with the Titleist Velocity balls. Now you know the secret of "distance" balls - high launch, low spin, particularly with mid and long irons. imo SkyTrak is tracking them just fine.

Ok, so its not just me. So do you think the carry increase makes sense? I have played all kinds of balls including whatever ladies ball I might find in the woods, never had I experienced what I would call a flyer until this one.

The more spin the less distance as a rule of thumb. The carry increase makes sense. That's why you bought a launch monitor.

I don't doubt the numbers. I've seen similar things messing around with range balls vs premium balls, etc. I do somewhat question the algorithm used to map carry though on low spin high launch numbers. Seems wedges and short irons go way further for me then IRL under these conditions.

Though as I'm typing, maybe I'll play around with the wind setting as where I play, there is always at least a breeze of some sort that may have more of an impact then I've realized.

Thanks for the replies. I was just very uncertain of what I was seeing. I tested driver last night and the spin was lower but in same ball park as the premiums I was trying. I expected as much given how the really soft low spin balls are supposed to work.

I noticed the same with wet range balls. On short-mid irons the spin was really low which was leading to significant carry distance inflation (and simulated run out). I don't doubt the skytrak measured it correctly though...
