  • Virtual Golf 2 Software released for Trackman 4

I saw that Trackman released the long anticipated Virtual Golf 2 last week, to very little fanfare. It looks like a major breakthrough with the use of NVIDIA's "Turf Effects" in its presentation of 3D rough. It's also showing some of the benefits of HDR lighting.

I was hoping to see some videos of a Virtual Golf 2 round in action by now, but all I've seen is 20 second flyover videos of the Sea Island's Seaside Course. Stunning graphics, but it seems that at this point in time only Trackman 4 owners will ever get to experience them. Here's a link to the 18th hole flyover at Sea Island's Seaside course if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujXE35yKOt0

Yeah that's pretty damn nice looking. Let me see if I have 20k under the couch cushions so I can play it.

Yeah, that looks nice, but I really want to see at least 3 or 4 holes played out from tee to green on video, so I can gauge the gameplay improvements and the new presentation options. I don't get a hint of that from the fly-over videos. I'm really surprised that at least a proud Trackman 4 owner who's downloaded and installed Virtual Golf 2 has not posted a video of some gameplay yet

I found $1.60 under mine, but it's a start The problem is, now that I'm retired, I could take 20K out of my 401K, but I'd still have to come up with about $40K to add a room on to the house to accommodate it! If I add a $40,000 room onto my house, it's not going to be to house a Trackman 4... just ask my wife!

Go for it, you can't take it with you lol..
Or just join a local club that has an indoor winter league for 10 years with the same money

We're getting closer to having the kind of gameplay video I'd like to see of Virtual Golf 2 on Trackman's Instagram page. Check this out:

Here's the first video of a live human hitting some practice approaches to various practice holes... warning - the graphics look even better than I imagined they would

Interesting looking at the numbers and comparing to the PGA tour avg that has been posted on line from a long time ago.

Even looking at his last shot.
He has LA and back spin numbers of a PGA 7 or 8 iron but much more smash factor than the 1.33 for the tour average..
However the swing speed compares to a PGA 3 iron and still only a carry in the 180's. If you go on club speed only, that swing speed could produce upwards of 210 yds carry however the LA would play into things. Also could not tell if the green was at a higher elevation.

The very first swing generated a back spin of over 10,000.

So for as much as they cost, I am not sure it is the unit to use indoors for accurate ball flight.

Isn't that the old JNPG (Nicklaus Golf)? I think Trackman bought the software, and now are releasing their own version of it which is only playable on the Trackman as it will not accept any other launch monitor.

I can only find about .25cents under my couch cushions, is there some way we can try it out for $1.00, or free like E6, before we buy? Short, of going to a fitter that happens to have a new Trackman with the software!

Wow, just had a closer look, $1,000/year just for software, $16,000 for Trackman, and $49,000 for a basic simulator - they are aiming for the super high-end market with those prices. Also, with the radar tracking requirements, you need a minimum of 19' depth for the Trackman to get a reading...

Check it out here: https://blog.trackmangolf.com/play-v...r-and-outdoor/ and here: https://trackmangolf.com/products/simulator and here: https://blog.trackmangolf.com/virtual-golf-2/

It does look stunning - and they have nailed the sounds of the game for sure... looks like support is unlimited at: https://trackmangolf.com/support

Yes, it's what would have been Perfect Golf 2 on the PC. Trackman bought the developers of JNPG, Perfect Parallel and now all we have is Virtual Golf 2 on Trackman 4.

It's way to rich for my blood, but I guess if you can afford it... you'll be the envy of your neighborhood. I think it's really intended for commercial use; it would certainly make more sense that way.

Here's something closer to complete tee to green play (the golfer has auto-putt enabled) at Silverleaf Golf Club. The desert mountain backdrop is easily the best looking I've ever seen in ANY golf game or simulation! I questioned the poster and he says he's only interesting in ball striking and that's why he has it in auto-putt. I'd love to see how the full putting experience goes with this though. What's the norm for gimmies on simulators as far as gimmie distance?

Here's a link to a You Tube video of a Trackman 4/Virtual Golf 2 full round at Sweetens Cove. It's rendered smoothly in 1080p, although for the first time in the Virtual Golf 2 videos and images I've seen thus far, the difference isn't as obvious in this one. The 3D rough doesn't really show the advantages of Turf Effects, but it might be down to the late evening lighting used and the lack of a much light rough at this course. The panorama looks really nice as does the sky dome. The winds are pretty much still so there's nothing to see in terms of sashaying tree foliage in this one.

What impressed me most about this video is how quickly the ball's flight is depicted on the screen on full shots. There's almost no delay between the impact of the ball on the screen and the animation depicting the ball flight starting. This guy also gives us the first look at the "Broadcast Camera" perspective on the cut views, and I really liked it, although I'd prefer to have cut views that were more reverse than side angle. None the less, I strongly prefer the Broadcast view shown here to Follow Cam, which I shied away from in the early Tiger Woods PGA Tour series years.

Finally, I thought the putting looked pretty decent. The player in the video had some very believable results with his 10 to 20 foot putts he hit. There was a bout a two second delay between the putt strike and the ball rolling on the green, but the path an behavior looked consistent with the strike. It's just a shame that Virtual Golf 2 software is playing to such a small audience, when there are so many other monitors, devices, and even gaming computers and consoles that could support it.
