  • Which OS for a New Computer?

I'll be getting a new computer as part of my simulator set-up (GC2 with TGC). I'm currently planning an i7 4970 3.6Ghz quad core processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, nVidia GTX 970 4GB video card and a 750W power supply. I have a choice of Windows 7, 8 and 10. Is there a best choice for a PC that will really only be used for the golf simulator?

Could you elaborate a little bit on the reasons for your vote?

Main reason is that it is very stable and has been used for a long time now, also it doesn't have a lot of extra overhead in the OS. As long as it's Windows 7 64bit, I don't see any reason to jump to Windows 10 unless TGC somehow will be optimized for the newer OS (which seems unlikely..). Windows 8.1 is definitely a no as it is just like Windows Vista before Windows 7, a dud.

          I also agree with Win7 64bit -
Win 8 - not worth it unless you want to use a touch screen monitor
Win 10 is better than Win 8 but still way to new for me to use on my golf sim pc

It looks like a few guys are already using Win 10 and I'm sure there is a lot using Win 8
I think when TGC starts taking advantage of the new version of DirectX on Win 10 it will be worth it

Forgot about directx, so yeah maybe down the road win 10 will be worth while.

I'm using a touchscreen monitor with Win 7. Touchscreens have been around for quite a while so they work fine with most OS.

Been using Win 7 Pro for my ProTee sim. Not planning on changing.

Thanks for the input. Looks like Win 7 64 bit is the winner.
