I won some money playing poker. Therefore I bought a GTX 980ti. It plays TGC on high, level 1 detail, trees distance and number of high quality trees at max. Full 60FPS, never dropping at all. Turning the detail to level 3 and trees at max results in 45-60FPS. Level 5 detail and trees at max results in 30FPS and choppy at times........ Going back to level 2 or 1. Level 2 I get 56-60 FPS with trees at max. I am leaving the settings there. I sure like the trees at max......... as John would say........Very nice! I know very well that you don't need that kind of card with TGC, but what the hell. I got good money for my 970's and my wife would have eventually taken the money out of my wallet. Now all I need is a 4 k projector to sell for around 2k. I might have to wait a while.

Do you still see a lot of shadows flickering in the trees when you use those settings? Also do the clouds look artificially wavy? Those are the two things that bother me the most with my settings but not sure the best way to fix it. I have a 970 with a i7 @ 4.0 ghz.

Not too sure. I will post a video on youtube under keither5150 at those settings within a few days. It will be at 1080 p. I have not noticed the clouds. If I go level 5 and 10000/2000 FPS goes down to 25-30. Level 1 or 2 is fine. I like a high tree distance though. The main thing for me is smooth panning. Choppiness is hard to watch. xbox one is choppy on some courses while the ball is landing.

Here is a video of the GTX 980ti. For some reason on Youtube, you can't get a full 60FPS. It is a little smoother than shown in the video. The settings are detail 1, Trees distance and quality 10000/2000 .... maxed out. Personally I like a high tree distance. TGC plays much better at 55-60FPS than 35. I would suggest turning the settings down until you hit in the 50's. If I turn detail to 5, I get about 25-30 FPS and choppiness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMMXwv4wpi0. You should also watch it in Chrome or on windows 10. Make sure your settings are 720p/60. Windows 7 and internet explorer does not like 60 FPS youtube videos.

It seems a little suspect that one of the top 5 best video cards cannot run at max... This scares me that the 980 in my build may not be enough

Yeah, we've all been hallucinating that we have been playing it on our sims for over a year! I have a GTX770, not too shabby but no longer a top card and TGC runs fine. What is the point of maxing out the settings???
ProTee recommends setting Trees to 1000 and distance to 614. Smell the coffee and go play golf on your sim.

The developers at HB said they made a mistake trying to future proof the product by making the graphic settings capable of running on video cards that didn't exist yet. Someone should try the Titan card. I wonder if it'll run on full. The reality is, and HB said this, full settings are totally unnecessary. Get the card you can afford and run it at what it can handle. You won't be disappointed.

The difference between trees at 1000/614 compared to 10000/2000 is small. The 980ti is most definitely not worth the extra money. The 970 is still the best value out there. My old GTX680 played TGC just fine as well. I won some money playing poker and I usually sock a little of it into the computers when that happens. Can't let the wife spend it all. Try setting your graphics to whatever it takes to have 50FPS + and the game plays much smoother. That was driving me nuts.... choppiness when the ball lands. My card will run at 5 / 10000/2000 but only at 30 FPS. It is choppy at times, so I turn detail to 1 as I can't tell the difference during play anyway. My post should actually discourage people from buying the 980ti unless they have lots of extra money. I use this computer to play other games so the 980ti helps more with that. I do agree with mthunt buy what you can afford. I posted the video so people can see the difference a high end card makes. Which is not a lot. I didn't know that until I put that card in there. Maybe my post will save some people some money.

Your video shows the same thing that I see which is the shadows constantly flickering in the trees. Is that intentional? Is it supposed to look like the wind is blowing the trees even if we aren't playing with wind? It really takes away from the visual reality in my mind. I never see trees look like they are flickering in real life.

You might be right. I think that they do it to show that the trees are moving a bit. I actually like that the trees and the water moves a bit. Some golf sim software, looks like a picture rather than real life. Now that you mention it. The flickering is a little excessive. Still..... the best option out there is TGC in my opinion.

I am just finally learning how YouTube works. I have another video that should be better quality. I recorded a whole round. I had to rewind twice due to balls being in the FOV. It's tough when your chip goes 2 inches. I have a EVGA Superclocked AC2 GTX 980ti. I am running a Panasonic PT-au 4000u. Very good for movies.... so so for golf sims. If you watch this video in Chrome, it will play at 1080p/60..... not quite 60 but close. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkF1oSIgyzo .
My screen size is 13x9 so I am running 1680x1050 to fill the screen better. I also have a 40 inch 1080p screen for a second monitor. Although the video card does 4k, I can't see myself buying a 4k projector any time soon. It looks very nice on my impact screen. If you watch this video.... I get a hole in one on it. First ace ever. I think that this might be my best round ever. I hope I get a round like this during the tournament.

Thanks, I used windows movie maker and saved with a custom setting of 60fps. I also increased the bitrate to 29Mbps. Takes forever to upload to YouTube at that quality. Still my best round ever. I have played close to 100 rounds since Aug 15.....I love TGC. I have played that course IRL but not from the back tees. We were up one, I think that they were gold back then. It plays very different from the tips. I need a round like that in a tournament.

I don't have any on the impact screen with the new video card. I tried making some videos with my video camera which is not very good in low light. If you search YouTube ..... Keither5150 you can see my videos. Only 2 of them are with the new video card (screen captures using shadowplay). 4 months ago I had a GTX 680, 2 months ago I had a GTX970. The videos that are 1 month old are with the 980ti. Screen captures only with the 980ti but they are at 60 FPS. The older videos are at 30FPS. Maybe I will try again sometime this week.
