I have a widescreen monitor but would like to run 4:3 on the projector. Is this possible and how is it done. Not a huge deal but I don't want a streched out screen on the desktop monitor. Thanks for the help!

When you "clone" windows desktop you clone resolution and aspect ratio so I don't think its possible. -
Btw, some monitors have options to adjust aspect ratio. Check your monitor OSD menu (if it has one).Comment

I believe you can just extend the desktop and pick the resolution the projector will be displayed as.
My monitor is 4:3, yet I've been running 16:10 for a while now on my projector at the same time.Comment

your projector should have that option to go 4:3 in the menu even if you are running 16:9 on the monitor never tried the combination honestly but I saw the option in menu of the projector though.Comment

In windows go to control panel and open the display tab. There you can set about anything you want. I have a 16:10 monitor and a 4:3 projector display in win10 and had the same thing in win7Comment

I'm using 16:9 on monitor and then I force the projector to display 4:3 using the aspect option on the projector.Comment

If you " extend" I think you can do anything you want as ronsc says. In win7 I use 16x10 monitor and run TGC in 20x9 on the projector (about halfway between tv widescreen and movie widescreen).Comment

I have a widescreen monitor and a widescreen projector... but my projection screen is square.
I've forced my projector to 4:3 in its settings menu, and set my PC to 1600 x 1200.
I definitely lose quality on my monitor, but I only use it for golf, so I'm not bothered.Comment

If you run the two as separate video displays you can drag from one to the other, that is how I have mine setup.Comment

If you set it up to duplicate you can I have mine on extend so I can run two different setups at the same time. If you duplicate you have to choose on resolution, I can run two separate resolutions on extend.Last edited by BGCurtis2nd; 10-14-2016, 02:59 AM.

My projector is 4:3 and monitor is "widescreen". Absolutely no issues with getting the image to show on both "displays" correctly running TGC.
I have Windows 10 and the projector is set as the "secondary" display. When starting TGC I choose the 1024 x 768 display option which corresponds to my 4:3 projector's resolution. Either before or after, doesn't matter, I cycle through the "projection options" holding the Windows key and pressing the "p" key until I get to "duplicate".
The end result is the same image on the monitor and the screen. The bonus with TGC is that for me at least, the 4:3 image presented on the widescreen monitor is stretched to fill the whole screen while the projector shows it's 4:3 image.
However, with E6 the monitor continues to show the 4:3 image with black bands on either side.
I don't think you should be playing around with your monitor's resolutions. You likely won't be doing yourself any favours.Comment

i use little $20 hdmi splitters (active, w/power) and duplicate desktop in Windows.
pc_hdmi >>> hdmi_splitter >>>> TV
...........................................>>>> Projector
Cable Box >>> hdmi_splitter >>>> TV
..............................................>>>> Projector
...that way I just use the projector/tv remote and change the source depending on which I want where. Most days, I'll have TGC on the projector and a game on the TV. I run the desktop & TGC at 1920*1080, full screen and set the projector to 4:3.
No manipulation of windows or dragging things around. If I need to check email or something and do not want to break the TGC full-screen, my ipad used for Air Keyboard is what I use.Comment
