  • Screen attachment advice needed

I have a 14' wide wall that is 10' high that I am going to put my screen in front of. I have looked over many of the posts on this site and it seems like the best option to hang the screen is to use slotted angle iron with bungees for the sides. Would slotted angle iron on the top be best or a rod or steel cable inside a sleeve? For the bottom, it seems that some people just leave a little extra screen on the floor. Is that the best or is there a better way? Also, it sounds like putting some sort of net behind the screen is a must. Any suggestions on what kind of net and do you just attach it to the same things the screen is attached to with the same type of attachments? I really appreciate any feedback I can get.

I am looking at Carl's preferred screen unless I get something directly from the mill if dbgolf72 makes another order.

I have 15x9.5 feet of screen coverage. If you try to use a tensioned cable over that amount you will get a sag and wrinkles in the middle. You would have to support it in the middle but that support would be an area that if hit by a ball would tear as it is under stress to hold everything tight.

I wound angle iron expensive so I built a frame of emt pipe with connectors on the ends from Amazon . I put a support in the middle. My bungies go around the emt and attach to tarp clips. (get good ones). Adjustments are easy for tensioning to get a nice clean screen. I have a platform that is 1.5 inches tall and my screen sits on the floor behind it and an emt holds it down. The screen is perfect with some carpet side and top protection.

I use an old projection screen instead of net so I cannot help you there.

I have a couple of questions, Boerdoc. On your EMT frame, is it free standing? If not, is it attached to the walls, floor, and ceiling or some other combination? If connected, what did you use? How deep is it (how far from the back wall)? I really appreciate the feedback.

Boerdoc is correct, I can't see a cable working very well. I too used emt and because I have over 18ft width, I had to support that in the middle as well. As far as what to do behind, I used heavy moving blankets and behind that a heavy tarp that I had laying around. Not sure if the tarp was needed, but I have 0 bounceback

How close to the wall are you with your screen and blankets?

Kent I have these corners that I used to hold the emt. I used J hooks from home depot that I bent in a vise to get the hook open enough to hold the emt. Once the bungies are in place the screen tension holds the emt into the j hooks. Then you just tighten the wingnuts on the corners. I only have emt on top and sides. On the bottom I have extra screen so I looped it back and just laid emt ,(for weight) and bungied the edge up. I have about a foot behind the screen so I can maneuver back there if need be. (or my kids). The first picture is actually sideways 90 degrees, that is the side. The second picture is the bottom (with the shiny insulation). I have a bungie across the back that I clip to to hold up the bottom edge. Kind of cobbled together and I am sure that you could make it look better. But my screen looks great from the outside and that is all that matters to me. Also my emt on the bottom is actually below the height of the hitting platform so no ball can hit it directly.
