  • Zip's Build

Since I'll be doing much more beyond just a screen, I'll use this new thread to document my entire room build from start to finish.

My screen area is framed 170 inches wide and 118 inches high. Along each vertical stud and along the bottom of the ceiling joist I secured 1-1/4 inch 14 gauge angle iron using 1-1/2 inch lag screws every 12 inches.

    I purchased a 10x10 golf net from http://www.ejourneytohealth.com/.

I hung it with a 24 inch bungee in each corner and three 48 inch bungees on each side. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Keeper-24...6023/203635138

It's stretched to 12 feet at the top and bottom. The sides hang much looser.

Looking good. The pictures in your second post did not show up. Your screen wall is 14 ft wide but what is the width of your hitting area? You're going accommodate both left and right golfers?

The hitting area is 20 feet wide. I'm using a GC2 for now, so I only plan to accommodate righties. If I ever switch hardware, I have plenty of room for both.

I purchased 192 inches of HQ2 raw material from Cory at Par2Pro. http://www.par2pro.com/shop/product_...products_id=98

I ended up needing a 164 inch finished screen, so I cut the screen to exact length and made a 1 inch double stitched hem around all 4 sides.

I bought this webbing for the straps. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I cut 6 inches pieces of webbing, folded them in half and sewed them with 5 passes in to the hem every 12 inches.

I used 12 inch bungees to secure the screen to the angle iron. http://www.menards.com/main/tools-ha.../p-1946592.htm

The screen comes to within about 3 inches of the angle iron on each side and along the top. The bottom hangs loose. I plan to start hitting balls softly in to the net and have someone watch from behind the net to see ho much deflection I get. Re-adjust bungees and keep hitting balls harder until I can hit a driver and get good deflection.

What are your ideas for carpet?

I'm not sure yet. My wife wants to do the whole basement in the same carpet we have throughout the house. That's fine with me, but at the end where the sim will be I'm considering doing something else. Maybe green turf. Maybe carpet tiles. Just not sure yet. That's a couple months off. In the meantime I plan to just lay some carpet remnants we have leftover from our build to have some floor covering around the screen.

Drywall is all hung and taped. He's taking the week off to go on vacation then coming back next week to sand it. I've still got to hand side walls and ceiling for sim area. I'm going to just hang sheets of OSB for the short term, then put up padded tiles as time allows. I'll have the OSB hung by the time he's done finishing the drywall.

My birthday is December 7. That's my new goal for having everything set up and starting to play.

Drywall was finished Sunday. Working crazy hours so far this week so I don't have the projector, etc set up yet. Hoping to get some time tomorrow and Thursday evenings.

Hah, thanks! At my age they just become placeholders.

Projector is up. Ran in to a little problem getting GSX to work last night but Zmax and Dennis took care of me. Hoping to play a few holes tonight.

What type of projector do you have? How far away from the screen is it mounted? How far from the screen are you hitting? Do you have any shadow while you are hitting? Your rrom looks great!
