  • Angle iron setup question- crown molding

Hi guys- I need some input for an angle iron setup.

My sim room has crown molding. I’ll cut into it if I must (Wife will kill me), but if I don’t, the angle iron will end 4-5” from the corners at sides & top. I’m looking for input on how this would (or would not) effect the hanging/tensioning of my screen&netting. Thoughts? Is it a big deal if I don’t have a bungee diagonally to the corner? Or should I just bite the bullet and cut the molding so I can run the a-iron all the way to the corners?

What’s the dimension of your screen?

      Just 10' wide & 8.5 H

Are you doing an enclosure or just a flat screen? Are you connecting to ceiling in any way?

I'm running angle iron up both walls and across the ceiling. 9' H ceilings & room width is a squishy 11'... doable with offset hitting & my screen is 10W

If it was me, I would run the angle iron up to the crown, but not into it. Then attach an eye bolt into the ceiling right next to your crown and in line with the angle iron, in order to attach the last bungee. This is provided that you are running the screen all the way up to the ceiling. If the screen is short of the ceiling, you may be able to get away with the angle iron (up to the crown) alone.

Proving yet again why this forum is so great! Thanks for the input everyone, and thanks for the kickbutt idea, bbjr !! Such a simple solution that gets me basically the best of both worlds. I was so fixated on the angle iron vs crown that I didn't take a step back (both literally and figuratively lol) to look at the problem another way. duh for me. Ok, today the build begins in earnest!!

I have 7 1/4" crown molding and ran slotted angle iron on the ceiling and down the walls. I ran it right up to the molding and did the same with my baseboards. My walls are 14' apart and my ceiling is 10' and there is no effect from not having the angle iron all of the way to the corner or to the floor.

As a followup to my own question, I wanted to let anyone who's reading that Kent had the right of it. The effect of having a gap in the angle iron in the corners is pretty much negligible. I was able to set the screen up and tension it no problem whatsoever. Thanks again bbjr for the eyebolt idea. It wasn't required in the end to get the job done, per se, but I still put one in each lower corner to help with "tidiness" of the lower screen
