  • Where did i go wrong.....?

So, thanks to help on this forum and elsewhere, i built my enclosure and got my screen hung this evening. I used one if the supertex screens due to their reasonable price, good reviews, and i liked the idea if the hanging method....

However, now that its hung, I'm getting more rebound than i expected. I attached a pic if my setup... from 9 feet away, it bounces back to me with an 8iron... not faster than i can react to it, but with more force than i expected.... i don't have it tight at all... actually, there's really almost no tightening... straps on sides and bottom are completely loose...

I also hung a moving blanket behind the screen.... i originally bungeed it like i had read on here, but it seems to me like that would just help the rebound versus if it were loose and soaked up the impact.... under both methods the ball bounced back similarly ......

I will admit that with 6 hits i have about 4 holes in the moving blanked, so i got what i paid for (it was cheap)...

So, what have i done wrong? Are there any suggestions? Is this to be expected until the screen stretches out a bit from impacts?

    TIA!

Have you tried removing the bottom bungees? My screen has minimal bounce back and I'm only attached on the top and the sides. The sides are only attached about 2/3 of the way down. Also, how close is your hitting zone to the screen? The closer you are the more bounce back... I'm 8 ft from screen to center of hitting zone.

I agree with this. Remove your bottom bungees, it will make a difference for sure

I can absolutely remove them and see what happens, but i have them so loose that i can't imagine they're doing anything..... worth a shot though

Im 9 feet from the screen

I agree with leaving the bottom loose I"m also wondering about the bungees on the top? If so, I would try using clips, ropes or hangers of some sort and just let the natural weight of the screen do it's job.

I had this setup at one time. I ditched the pvc poles and straps and went with tarp clips and ball bungees on the top and sides only. You get less bounce back and you are able to get more of the wrinkles out. And it's easier to adjust. The only issue is, I found the supertex is not very durable.

Last night i removed the bottom straps, the lower side straps and loosened the middle side straps to where they seem like they'd do nothing whatsoever.... I also put two moving blankets behind it to strengthen that effort, and I feel like i'm still getting too much bounce back... from 9 feet its OK... sometimes the ball comes right back to my feet, other times it seems a little hot... I think some of the answer is that I need to get something on the ground, other than the exercise mats i have, to soften that first bounce...i'm not quite sure what, but i'm open to suggestions

Maybe something with distance between screen and blankets ??

I don’t think the straps are causing your massive bounce back. Likely because your screen is wrapped along the edges with rigid pipes, loosening the straps will do little to alleviate the issue.
As wbond indicated, you’ll be better off removing those pipes and attach the screen using bungie balls and tarp clips. This will allow much more flex for the screen and reduce the bounce back.
My screen is about 8’-9’ away from the hitting area and the balls never bounced any further than 2’-3’ from the screen. I’ve got it attached with the bungie balls and tarp clips to EMTs.
