  • Padding for walls

    Hi Guys

Anyone got a recommendations for wall padding - my garage sim is half built and currently i have carpeted the walls. Looks nice and absorbs some sound. But i also want to add some padding/cushioning. Im thinking of padding around the screen and about 2ft out.

Im thinking of foam panels and covering them in some nice dark black velvet

Any pics or ideas of current builds would be much appreciated

or perhaps thick black curtains on each side maybe a cheaper option??

A few people (me included) have used wood (OSB, Plywood etc) covered in foam and then wrapped in faux leather. You can decide how much "cushion" you want with the thickness of the foam. You can do large sections, but smaller sections, in "tiles" gives a nice effect (kind of like TW's sim setup they showed this weekend on the AN replay). Or you can use acoustic wall tiles, carpet tiles (use a thick pile to get any reduction in bounceback), curtains (as you said) or even gym floor tiles (you can get thick padded ones, not just the skinny mats). All have varying benefits in terms of bounceback reduction vs aesthetics. I hope that gives you some ideas.

Haha - All I could think of was the irony of it. The one guy (?!) who couldn't hit the ball against that wall if he tried... lol.

      Thank you!

Like the sound of the 'tiles' option - i will look into that.

For padded tiles, I found this really good video on how to make them - if you want to spend the time and get a really professional looking result.

Great video. I didn’t know about beau clips - seems like a great solution. Maybe with a black velvet or felt material.

Looks great. He’s to justify the cost for as many as you need, though. Cheap to DIY in the exact dimensions needed.

I purchased a couple of gymnastics mats. Couldn't beat the price and portability: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Sorry to rehash this old post. I like this idea of using tumbling mats. Did you manage to put it up on the walls/ceilings? Does it loon aesthetically pleasing? Any pictures?
