  • NetReturn Nylon Impact Screen

This is the new nylon NetReturn impact screen. Its a little bit loud, the video makes it seem louder than it actually sounds in person.

Decent quality fabric, very easy to install with sewn-in velcro straps across the top, a red centering indicator, and 2 straps on the bottom corners to anchor and tension it. I had just installed it prior to this video, and have not messed around with tension yet, probably need to tighten up the bottom corners and maybe loosen up the top a bit.

My only concern is that the ball does jump off the screen a bit. I may need to play around with the tension, I have it pretty tight across the top. Some high lofted wedge shots did deflect upwards. I do have a homemade frame attached to the top to catch any high shots. 2 foot by 8 foot 1.25" PVC frame wrapped in a bed-sheet. Total cost to make = $20 at home depot, and a wife to sew up the bedsheet so it doesnt look totally crappy.

I shot about +20 this weekend in the Honda Classic tour..I am sure this new screen will drop 5-10 stokes off my rounds next week.

I think my garage simulator is pretty much complete at this point. My next upgrade will be a house with a basement, where I have enough room to get a big wide-screen hitting bay.

    Skytrak
    TGC
NetReturn (net, side nets, and impact screen)
    Country Club Elite turf
    Benq 1085ST projector
Macbook Pro (running Win 10 bootcamp)

I'm a novice at all of this and have a bunch of questions myself but I think your projector needs to be above or I front of you if hitting that close to avoid shadows. I'm just taking a guess here though.

The ground box option seems out for me since I'm hitting pretty close. Thoughts?

I would think that ceiling mounting is the way to go. Gets rid of shadows. But other than shadows, play around with your measurements at projector central and see what works best regarding image size and brightness at the distances you are considering.

I'm not sure why I didn't realize this sooner but it just donned on me after reading all the posts again that you are the net return pro and not the sim model.

I actually think the way you are doing this is the way to go, saves a ton of money with the same result.

Couple more questions of you don't mind,

If I'm planning on going with a 5x5 hitting mat for the tee area, is there something you would recommend for the area from screen back to CCE mat to dampen the falling balls?

I see your using a mac book with boot camp to run tgc, watching your video it seems to be doing a pretty darn good job. Any issues or complaints with that setup?

        Thanks again!

I did use my Macbook with TGC, but have since changed to my gaming PC.

The macbook is able to run TGC pretty well (30fps) at 1280x1024 on medium settings. But it starts to get choppy at higher resolutions. I wanted to run at 1920x1080, so I swichted to my gaming PC (and a wireless HDMI kit, as my PC is on the other side of the house).

          15 inch Macbook 2015, ATI 370x GPU

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the computer.

I need to buy whatever I'm going to use as my existing PC is 5 years old and have a couple iPads. I either need to get a new laptop or some sort of PC but it would be nice to be able to use something from an off the shelf store like Best Buy. I'm not a computer whiz!

Seems most notebooks have either gtx 960/970/980m cards. Any idea how many fps these will give me with high resolution and med/high setting?

Not sure if this is adequate for the type of setup I'm doing in a garage.

I bet your PC will run it fine, possibly with only a video card upgrade. You could get an Nvidia 970 and install that in your PC.

My PC is also 5 years old, and it has no problem with TGC. Core i7-860 CPU, Nvidia 970 GPU.

I tried the suggestion of placing an 8-foot copper pipe at the top of the netreturn impact screen, to make it lay flatter and give a better picture. It for sure looks better, but I hit only about 10 wedge shots before I had one hit the pipe and come shooting back at me pretty quickly.

My solution was to move the pipe up above the netReturn frame. This still improves how the screen lays, primarily in the corners. The screen no longer has to curve back at the corners to attach to the netReturn.

The pipes also help to better support the home-made top frame that I built to catch wedge and flop shots.

Finally, I got the bottom corners of the screen attached in such a way that they pull the screen tight and flat. Wrapping the velcro strips under the bottom of the frame allows you to get the screen to pull tight without riding up the vertical frame sections.

With these pretty simple mods, the image quality of this setup is much improved.

No more tinkering for me, I think my garage setup is as good as I can get it. I wish my golf game improved this easily.

I decided to go with a micro bay from all sport systems which gives me just a little bit bigger setup than the net return.

I am building the framing at 9.5 w x 9 h and they have screens custom made, mine will be 9w x 8.5 h and they are customizing 4ft netted over hang on front for the lob shots.

Hopefully it will work out nicely, they have really good customer support in trying to accommodate any space you have.

Probably a great choose psw, I don't think I would go with Net Return if I was building a sim from scratch. I'm still waiting for my NR pro screen but I can already tell I'll be annoyed by it and upgrading the full enclosure for next winter. I'm just such a fan of the NR as a net that I'd like to make it work.

Once you get setup can you share some pics?

I totally agree. Netreturn is one of the best hitting nets you can find. But if you are adding an impact screen then it starts to require compromises and some DIY patience to get it working. The inability to make the screen totally flat is a big drawback. The deflecting of wedge shots is another.

Those All-Sport setups look really nice, if I had more space in my garage the widescreen hitting bay looks great.

The nice thing with any of those setups is they can be built to any size really simply. If all you have is 8ft you can build it to that spec.

I didn't want to go as small as the net return but don't have the space for a jumbo setup and this allows me to fall somewhere in between for quite a bit less money as well.

Will definitely post pics when setup, hopefully will be delivered by end of week.

Have a couple other items to get in the meantime.

                        Hey Shardak,

Do you have any updated videos with your Net Return Screen?

I would recommend this one instead:

It has side-straps to help keep the screen tighter and flatter. I made my own DIY solution with tarp-clips and bungee cords, but when my screen needs replacing, I will be getting this one.
