Hi all. First of thanks to everyone on this site for posting their build information, it really helped me out. Figured it was time to post about the simulator build my dad and I are doing in his basement. The space we have is about 10 feet tall by 8.5 feet wide. And, we’ll be able to stand about 7-8 feet back from the screen. First thing we did was put together a computer, something I’ve done before, so that part was pretty easy. Next we put 2x4’s around the wall, which we mounted some angle Iron on (angle iron will be used to hold the net, which we’ll put behind the screen. We initially allowed for about 4 inches of space between the net and wall, but this was not enough. We ended up needing about 7 inches.

Next we put some carpet padding on the back wall (to prevent dents or soften the blow of a ball hitting the back wall).

Then we hung some heavy furniture (moving) blankets, to go between the wall and the net. In front of the mover blankets is a net, and in front of that is a SuperTex impact screen. It works pretty well. The ball hits the Screen/net, then moving blankets, and doesn't come flying back at us, like it did before we put in the moving blankets.

Then we hung the projector from the ceiling (BenQ HT2150 ST), after determining the distance it needed to be on projector centrals website. We also ordered a copy of the steam version of TGC, just to see how it looked. Here’s a picture of us projecting the steam version of TGC on the impact screen. It’s not fully adjusted in this picture.

Right now we’re working on putting up some black curtains on rails, that will extend out about 8 feet on either side of the wall.

Also added some black cloth to the top boarder and white cloth to the sides, so when the screen is up it will have a black boarder at the top and white on both sides.

The total build so far has taken a little over a month (part time), and the total cost will be right around $5500 for everything. This includes the launch monitor (SkyTrak) and simulator software (TGC). We’re in the home stretch now. Here’s the few things we have left to do:
-Waiting on protective case for the Skytrak (trust me, it’s needed, lol).
-Waiting on a gel pad insert, to put into our hatting matt, for a DIY CC elite matt (idea from a post on this forum).
-Waiting on some white nylon straps to hold the SuperTex impact screen (they go better with our background than the black ones).
-Going to put some carpet padding on the ceiling, from the screen to about 3 feet out, and cover with black cloth, just to prevent any dents in the ceiling. It would be hard to hit the ceiling, but you never know.
-Also going to put a piece of Lexan in front of the SkyTrak protective case to protect the camera.
I’d say we’re a week or two away from a complete build, and will be up and playing TGC very soon! I’ll post more pictures as we continue to finish things up.
