Buy Impact Screen Fabric Directly from Mill

As a cost sensitive person attempting to build a high quality simulator, I realized purchasing the correct impact screen is critical to both the simulator's overall performance and it's price tag. It should be affordable, durable, seamless, impact resistant, have minimal bounce back, low noise, and display HD quality images.

West Coast Netting, Par2Pro, Foresight, Carl's Place and others listed in various forum threads all sell screens but none actually manufacture them. Buying second hand increases cost and my goal to buy the highest quality materials at the best possible price can only be accomplished by purchasing direct from the mill that manufacturers the fabric.

After plenty of research I found the mill that's manufacturing the impact screen fabric for Foresight, Carl's Place and others. The mills highest quality impact screen fabric is a heavyweight knit polyester sold only in 120 inch x 40 yard rolls. The raw material costs $56/yard without shipping.

40 yards is clearly too much material for my simulator so I'm looking to get a group of us on the forum to split a roll.

My main concern is noise. If it's a tight mess I suspect the image to be comparable. But with 2 young kids now, noise is my #1 concern and the screen material is the biggest contributor to that. Maybe ironstrokes will comment.

Yes I will comment haha....I have what looks like is the old model (obviously since the new one isnt out yet) and I will certainly say I feel like it is quieter than the HQ. Im not sure by how much. Im actually working a double shift tonight and wont be able to play until tomorrow in the early morning, so im gonna try to take a video with the same webcam I was using when I recorded some of my youtube rounds with the HQ (for microphone continuity) and see if I can tell how much a difference it is and post it up on the forums. It feels quieter to me, but been like 9 or 10 months since ive used the HQ so my memory isnt as sharp anymore on how it sounded exactly

When I was experimenting with backing material to put behind my HQ screen to reduce noise, I ran into open-faced insulation immediately behind the screen. It made impact about as loud as punching a pillow, it was perfect.

Then mthunt spoiled the fun by telling me I may slowly die via microfractured fiberglass dust made from impacting the insulation over and over and over...so I bagged that idea. Tried a natural insulation backing that just ended up exploding into a billion pieces of sheep's wool all over my garage by the end of a winter season.

Anyway, I'm still searching for that level of noise reduction. Preferably without the death sentence.

The pricing is on the previous page of this thread but for 15 feet with no finished edge it is $21 per foot so $315. After dbgolf72 receives the large roll and cuts it up, you will also have to send him a shipping label.

Did the math but wanted to make sure.

Do you want the material finished with grommets holes 12 inch on center top and sides pocket on the bottom and Velcro top and sides? I just want to make sure I understand what you are asking for.
