  • Buy Impact Screen Fabric Directly from Mill

As a cost sensitive person attempting to build a high quality simulator, I realized purchasing the correct impact screen is critical to both the simulator's overall performance and it's price tag. It should be affordable, durable, seamless, impact resistant, have minimal bounce back, low noise, and display HD quality images.

West Coast Netting, Par2Pro, Foresight, Carl's Place and others listed in various forum threads all sell screens but none actually manufacture them. Buying second hand increases cost and my goal to buy the highest quality materials at the best possible price can only be accomplished by purchasing direct from the mill that manufacturers the fabric.

After plenty of research I found the mill that's manufacturing the impact screen fabric for Foresight, Carl's Place and others. The mills highest quality impact screen fabric is a heavyweight knit polyester sold only in 120 inch x 40 yard rolls. The raw material costs $56/yard without shipping.

40 yards is clearly too much material for my simulator so I'm looking to get a group of us on the forum to split a roll.

Please advise any interest or questions.

I'd be interested. Will measure tomorrow but likely 14x10.

So if you end up buying the raw material, would you be the one cutting the size and doing alll the shipping ? If so, what would your time cost plus shipping roughly be?

I'm in for 10 x 10. Raw is fine and I live in Chicago.

What is the price for a 10x10? I'm currently having to repair holes on a weekly basis it seems like, so I'm going to be in the market for a new screen soon!

how do you repair holes? so far i've been using needle and thread to pull the fabric back together but it doesn't look the greatest.

I try to do that needle and thread just as it is starting to separate and do preventative sewing and it works better. The other thing that I did was take a white iron patch and sewed it on from behind. That doesn't look good, but as you said if your hole is too big and you bring it together sewing it looks worse :-(. I honestly can't believe this screen hasn't lasted longer.

I'm in for 14 feet. I would prefer finished.

I may be interested as well, 20x10. The only concern I have if it was the same material used in the Par2Pro. According to responses on the forum, that material seems to tear easily. Currently, I use the screen from Custom Design Golf. It is an excellent screen that wears very well but fairly expensive. The screen from the Golf Simulator Guys seems interesting but expensive. I have contacted them twice but they don't seem too interested in talking to me.

based on a comment by Boerdoc i would like to increase my size to 10x15. I didn't think of making it longer and just moving the center over a foot or so to get new material in the hitting zone. Excellent idea. Since I use tarp clips, this would be very easy. Should last quite a few years that way.

I'd be interested in well depending on final price. I'd be looking at 10 x 16 or 10x18 and doing what wbond mentioned (seems like a great idea to extend the life.

Are you referring to the HQ2 screen?? What is Par2pro saying about that?? what is ball speed into the net?? Probably once you start to get up above 160mph ball speed, it probably starts to become an issue???

I'm not sure what my screen is to be honest with you. I bought it as a package deal when I bought my mat. My ball speed is 145-155 from the driver, but that's not the area that is tearing. It's the 6-9 iron range. I guess I should be happy because that means I'm pretty consistent with my irons and where they are hitting on the screen :-).

Sounds like balls that are scuffed, furred, rough??? maybe hard to see unless closely inspected but I would think diver speeds would be more of an issue than spin speeds, but then ,what do I know.....................I do wonder what screen it is though.....................

I think it's probably due to having a "net" behind it.

I also have a Pr20 net behind my HQ2 screen, how would that cause an issue? I thought that it would stop holes ??

                          Hi MainStGolf,

"I think it's probably due to having a "net" behind it. "

I was recommended to have a net behind my Par2pro HQ raw material. Are you saying that having the net behind isn't a good idea. I am about 3 weeks out before i can test my design out.

I'd be interested as well. Not sure on size at the moment as I'm still building plans for an addition.
