Buy Impact Screen Fabric Directly from Mill

As a cost sensitive person attempting to build a high quality simulator, I realized purchasing the correct impact screen is critical to both the simulator's overall performance and it's price tag. It should be affordable, durable, seamless, impact resistant, have minimal bounce back, low noise, and display HD quality images.

West Coast Netting, Par2Pro, Foresight, Carl's Place and others listed in various forum threads all sell screens but none actually manufacture them. Buying second hand increases cost and my goal to buy the highest quality materials at the best possible price can only be accomplished by purchasing direct from the mill that manufacturers the fabric.

After plenty of research I found the mill that's manufacturing the impact screen fabric for Foresight, Carl's Place and others. The mills highest quality impact screen fabric is a heavyweight knit polyester sold only in 120 inch x 40 yard rolls. The raw material costs $56/yard without shipping.

40 yards is clearly too much material for my simulator so I'm looking to get a group of us on the forum to split a roll.

Please advise any interest or questions.

Late last night I hung up the screen. Being that it was late, I wasn't able to hit any balls due to some sleeping women in the house. I will be able to hit some in a few hours. My first thoughts on the screen. OMG ....... what a great image. It is as good as my 10 foot home theatre screen....... that costs more. Currently I have it just attached at the top. I have side curtains that are 8 inches in from the edge of the screen. So I may just leave the sides loose.... I need to find my wife's steamer so I can take out the creases from shipping. I will add to this post once I hit some balls.

Is anyone else not attaching the screen on the sides? It seems to me that you would do this to improve the image. With my curtains 8 inches in.... it is not needed.

I've got my screen hung, in my newly finished sim. This is my third version of a simulator that I have built through the years. About 12 years ago, I started with a p3pro and a diy screen consisting of a 10'x10' 1200 denier cordura tarp laminated on the face with white marine vinyl, mounted via zip ties through grommets. I used this screen for a few years (before retiring the system) and it was extremely loud, with average picture quality, but had very little bounce back and was quite durable.

My second version I built in May of this past year, and it used a 12'x9' Supertex screen mounted via pipes and nylon strapping through the top and side pockets and was backed by my original diy screen and a moving blanket. This screen was still fairly loud, had an average picture quality, but had too much bounce back even with very little tension in the screen. It was also very short-lived having developed several holes in the hitting area over the 5-6 months of use.

On this version, I followed the advice recommended in this thread and ordered a few extra feet so that I can adjust the screen as the hitting area develops wear. The final viewing dimensions are 160"x120" (however I ordered a 20'x10' piece to have enough to adjust the hitting area over time). The mounting consists of the screen material stretched across 144"x4" pvc pipe on the sides (that are mounted to the ceiling and the floor via swivel mount toilet flanges and coupled using inside couplings), and the top is attached with velcro to a 2' wide piece of carpet runner that is mounted to the ceiling through grommets and screw hooks every 18". The 2 ends of the screen are tensioned together using tarp clips and bungee straps on the backside, and there are two moving blankets and a piece of automotive carpet in between used as backing. When the screen wears, I will advance it 18" by unhooking the grommets and advancing the screen by turning the pvc pipe, then rehooking the grommets. As far as my initial impressions of the screen... highly recommended. The screen is very quiet and bounce back is nearly perfect for my taste (I actually like it to bounce back a little and roll softly just short of my hitting area so that I don't need to go retrieve it, and this accomplishes that spot on). I can't vouch for picture quality yet, as I just have an old long throw projector temporarily mounted (my original lcd projector from my original sim 12 years ago) until I disassemble version 2 of my simulator, but I am impressed at how this old projector is looking. And, although the material looks thick, I can't comment on longterm durability until I use it for at least a few months. Overall, I am happy that I got on board with this deal and am looking forward to putting in some time on this screen.

During this previous run, dbgolf72 made some tweaks to the specs of the material in order to improve it. The mill had some problems with the process and the material was not as flat as it should be, so dbgolf72 had to send it back to get remanufactured. I believe each part of the process took a couple of months. So, I would estimate that once enough people sign up for a third run, that it will be at least 2-3 months before you receive the screen provided that no tweaks in the design are necessary.

Procedure is to add yourself to the bottom of the list, with your desired size. 10' width, minimum 10' length. Once things have shaken out with this run, dbgofl72 will start another run from the factory. Once the material is delivered, he gives everyone a per-foot price for their screen. You pay for the screen, then he'll give shipping dimensions and weight for your box, and you send him a shipping label.

Hi This is my first time on a forum and I am starting a build (In the UK) I am looking at all what I still need to get. Projector and Screen. I have the Skytrak but only the game improver package. Just wondered which is the best software to get to play golf on? best projector and screen. As I can not find a supplier in the UK and importing from USA seams extream.
