Buy Impact Screen Fabric Directly from Mill

As a cost sensitive person attempting to build a high quality simulator, I realized purchasing the correct impact screen is critical to both the simulator's overall performance and it's price tag. It should be affordable, durable, seamless, impact resistant, have minimal bounce back, low noise, and display HD quality images.

West Coast Netting, Par2Pro, Foresight, Carl's Place and others listed in various forum threads all sell screens but none actually manufacture them. Buying second hand increases cost and my goal to buy the highest quality materials at the best possible price can only be accomplished by purchasing direct from the mill that manufacturers the fabric.

After plenty of research I found the mill that's manufacturing the impact screen fabric for Foresight, Carl's Place and others. The mills highest quality impact screen fabric is a heavyweight knit polyester sold only in 120 inch x 40 yard rolls. The raw material costs $56/yard without shipping.

40 yards is clearly too much material for my simulator so I'm looking to get a group of us on the forum to split a roll.

Thought people might find this interesting... as of the last person (brnixon), there are 67 people on the list, and a total of 898 feet of screen material requested (approx 300 yards)!!

Based on the original posting, that makes 7.5 rolls (40yds/roll) of screen .... yikes!

Since it will be a loooong long time before my name comes up, I decided to buy a Carl's for right now... and noticed that there are a lot of screens in the clearance section at more than 50% off !! I bought a 10x10 Premium with finished edges for $360... incl shipping. i thought others on here might want to check it out too. (be aware that the discounted screens might have imperfections, but for less than half price I'm going to gamble...)

Well I just unboxed my screen today and hung it on the wall just to see what it would look like with a projected image.

Here is a link of a video and as you can see the image quality is pretty good.

The screen itself it 13ft x 8ft. I only hit a few ball into the screen with a 60 degree wedge and only at like 3/4 speed (for me that is like 60 yards), I was afraid the ball would hit the wood behind the screen and ricochet back at me, however, the ball barely made a sound and pretty much dropped straight down. I am very excited to build a frame within the next week or so and see how the screen holds up with full shots.

So right now, I was just focusing on image quality and I am pretty happy with the projected image on the screen. I will follow up later once I complete my build but I hope that was helpful to some of you.

I'm also very happy with my screen. Can't speak of long term durability. I play 3-4 times per week. My screen shows no signs of damage.

How is the picture quality? and what did you have to compare it too?

So, I'm last (as of now) on the list and I see people taking themselves off the list because they are a ways down on it. Also a post that says it looks like it might be a year before they get their screen.

I don't see anything here that gives a time frame for when your name goes on the list and you can expect a screen. I thought as the list got longer we would be closer to having the master rolls ordered then cut a shipped.

Am I missing something ????? (Wouldn't be the first time !)

Just to give you some perspective. I have been subscribed to this forum since May or June of 2017, added my name to the last list and fell 8 people short of getting a screen ordered on the last order. That order has been the only one that has come through since I have subscribed to this forum. HOWEVER, I was able to order a screen because someone else backed out from their commitment and I took a 3 foot larger screen that I had originally wanted. It was not only worth the wait but even with the 3 additionally feet, it was at a significant savings for me. If you are looking for something quickly, you are going to need to look elsewhere or for something temporary because this process will take a while regardless. StanMI Just for reference, i paid for version one on 3/30/17 and paid for version two on 12/1/17 and this thread was started on 12/31/16. I'm not sure what the year reference is in regards to, maybe if you miss out on one order and then get on the second time around. It was about 3 months to get the original order and then 8 months until the next ones were shipping.

I noticed that Carl's has a whole bunch on clearance for big discounts, so I took a chance and ordered a 10x10 finished edge Premium. I got it today, and for the life of me I can't even tell what the "imperfection" is. I've only looked it over, though, and not hung it yet, so perhaps I'll see something then, but seriously it was a great deal ...less than half price and shipping included. Not as good a deal as the direct from the mill, but now I've got something good to use until my turn comes up. I though some of you guys might want to check it out.

Sorry guys been busy! Here’s an update. Next run forecasted to arrive in 12 weeks. It will be the same specs as the second run, I haven’t found anything else to improve. Will be around 500 yards so should be plenty for all, even a few yards for me. Last time there wasn’t enough for me! Price will definitely be cheaper than last time. When we get closer and I know what our costs will be I’ll post the pricing.

Also very impressed at the efforts of the members of the forum to help each other , the sourcing of screen material directly is beneficial to a lot of people, thank you for your efforts.
I have just embarked on my simulator build in Scotland and would be looking for a screen or screens to install in my garden cabin which is being built as we speak.
Could I kindly ask are there plans to process another run after the current run has been used.?
I will post pics of the cabin build in the appropriate thread.
