  • Buy Impact Screen Fabric Directly from Mill

As a cost sensitive person attempting to build a high quality simulator, I realized purchasing the correct impact screen is critical to both the simulator's overall performance and it's price tag. It should be affordable, durable, seamless, impact resistant, have minimal bounce back, low noise, and display HD quality images.

West Coast Netting, Par2Pro, Foresight, Carl's Place and others listed in various forum threads all sell screens but none actually manufacture them. Buying second hand increases cost and my goal to buy the highest quality materials at the best possible price can only be accomplished by purchasing direct from the mill that manufacturers the fabric.

After plenty of research I found the mill that's manufacturing the impact screen fabric for Foresight, Carl's Place and others. The mills highest quality impact screen fabric is a heavyweight knit polyester sold only in 120 inch x 40 yard rolls. The raw material costs $56/yard without shipping.

40 yards is clearly too much material for my simulator so I'm looking to get a group of us on the forum to split a roll.

Please advise any interest or questions.

    • Hi Daniel (dbgolf72)
I just sent friends and family money for 10x11 size to you. I will send the shipping label as soon as you let me know the weight of the box. Thanks a lot for your help!

Just a heads up, he had asked a while back for people to not send any more money until he can figure out how much material he has left. I do think there are quite a few people waiting in line for the “go ahead” on sending $. Hopefully everyone gets taken care of either way! Good luck

    • Ok, angle iron is up and sim room pretty much ready to go, just need the screen now. Looks like it was packed Oct 2nd. Would be great to get early Xmas present and have it shipped out soon. 😄 Any update is appreciated. Thanks Daniel!

I was able to get some old driving range mats from the course I’m a member at. I made a cut out for optishot and have mat for both sides as wife and bro in laws are all lefties.

        • While I'm waiting, what can I use as a temporary solution, painters canvas? Other have said the ball will go right through a sheet, but i've got everything else and would like to try some stuff out during the holidays. Any suggestions that can be sourced locally?

I’m thinking an off white tarp from tarps plus.

If you do a tarp don't do the vinyl ones, the gleam/reflection off the surface will make you crazy. Something with a matte, non reflective surface. I have a white vinyl tarp up right now because my screen shot craps, I put it up to evaluate some setup changes I'm making while I wait for a new screen and after I got it up I turned on the projector, really poor image due to the shiny surface.
              Good luck!

          • Thanks all, ya regular tarps would be pretty loud, probably a decent pop, that might be unnerving.. all I find local is 8oz, probably not thick enough. Will find something double that weight and try that.

Oh, the vinyl ones are pretty deafening too....

          • I am considering canvas drop cloth from tarp plus as my temp screen while I wait. Tarp seems to be too heavy. What you all think.

NOPE. I tried it just as a temp screen. I went right through it.

          • Oh! Ok. Any cheap suggestions for temp screens out there.

              • Now for bad news. One of the reasons it took me so long to respond here is because the last rolls I had were not clean. I had a lot of work to do to find what sizes we could cut. Here are the results:

Klint Flint your 12 foot piece is not 12 x 10. it is 12 x 9 ft 9 inches. If this works for you its ready to go send me a label. If it doesn't I am happy to send your money back or you can wait until January when I receive the next shipment. Please let me know.

The following people have these orders:
                Jeff Reed $254.59 14.55 15-Oct 15.00
                Robert Bushman III $271.58 15.52 17-Oct 16.00
                Scott Pomeroy $305.56 17.46 23-Oct 18.00
                Larry Ott $339.55 19.40 24-Oct 20.00
                Jesse Brown $305.56 17.46 24-Oct
                Butch Butler $339.55 19.40 24-Oct
                Steve Czwalga $227.50 13.00 5-Nov 13.00
                Vikas Rathi $193.00 11.03 20-Nov
I dont have fabric for you in clean 10 ft wide sections. Here is what I can cut that is clean:

                15 x 8
                15 x 9
                14 x 8
                9 x 10
                9.5 x 10
                9 x 13
8 x 23 (can prob cut this into two screens)

If you guys want any of these I am happy to adjust the price to reflect the reduced square footage and if you don't want it I understand and will be happy to refund your payment unless you want to wait until January. I will wait to hear from you guys before offering these to everyone.

Brandon Lynch please advise if you have received your screen.

                Best,

                Daniel

Hey Daniel - I’m sure you’re flooded with messages and emails, I thought instead of sending one more I’d post here, assuming someone else might have the same question.

Thank you for keeping this going with another shipment! It looks like some of the last few people were claiming the last pieces you have. If they don’t all get claimed, I’d be interested in having a chance at getting one, if the size is right. Otherwise I will get in line for the next batch.

You mentioned getting a website up for taking orders - is that what we need to wait for to sign up? I posted a while back about needing 14’, but it was right around the time you paused to ensure you had enough left. I guess my question - for those of us that have posted here stating they would like a piece once it’s available, how do you want us to move forward to officially get in line in your queue? Are our posts here good for now, or do we need to do it through the future website?

Sorry Daniel, please disregard my post about the 9x13 section. I will need the full 10x16 now. Thanks!

              • I have a lot of messages and this may answer the main question.

We will do another run. It takes a long time to knit this fabric so we'll probably receive the next shipment in January. As many of you probably have noticed this is too much to handle effectively through this thread. We will have a website shortly where people can put orders and pay online. We will ship the fabric ourselves and include shipping in the price. The thread will remain for comments regarding quality and or improvements we can make to the material. The cost of the material is still the same and therefore the price will remain the same. Looking to organize this process and keep our community supplied.

                Best,

                Daniel

Daniel, I posted a while back regarding a 10x10 piece, seeing as you will set up a website and everything, I'll wait until next year on this as I'd rather just wait on it. If you see something from me please disregard. Once again, what you are doing is truly awesome! I hope you are making some money on this for all your time and effort.
