What I did was bought some foam interlocking pads from Costco. The foam base has two layers and I cut out the top layer for the gel and glued/duct tape the foam base layers. I then bought a 5 by 5 all turfs mat which was poorly made and bubbled up. With a 5 by 5 though I was able to rotate it 4 times and lasted about a year for me. I recently went with the durapro rec and it does seem better built on first impression. Pics are with the durapro.

My decision to go this route was I need to move my mat to park my car during the winter months. The foam base makes it light weight to drag across the floor.

Thanks for the photos. With this I could do two 5x5 mats, since I need for Left/right handed. Then I would have 8 rotations for the hitting area as it wore. I could just about make a 5’x10’ mat with the 48sq ft Costco pack.

Do you like the feel of that setup compared to other options?

      Thanks for the info.

I did get a raw hide mat in between the all turf and durapro to see if a good used commercial mat would be better. Raw hide does sell good mats but I found myself picking the ball due to being careful not to hit fat shots.

Once that happened I began to tense up and my swing began to deteriorate.

Went back to the gel and now I just swing. Fat shots still give feedback with the gel but isn't punishing and feels realistic to grass imo.

Thinking of copying the ever popular gel mat, need a cdn version of the ultragel - is this essentially the same thing or is there something special about the ultragel?

Looks like the same stuff, but can’t be certain.

Is there any reason to cut the seat pad. Planning on using this as an add on to CCE. I
f the gel pad was left whole you could rotate it more?

As long as you're not standing on part of it, there's no harm in having a larger section of gel under the hitting surface. In my opinion, though, the problem with the CCE is not that it lacks cushion - it's that it's so thick and plush that it decelerates the club abruptly on fat or steep AoA shots, and no amount of gel underneath with change that.

Sorry that was fairly poor English....
My plan is to use the CCE as a stance mat and then create a gel hitting pad

0.5" foam panel + 2cm gel + synlawn (adding plywood if i need more height to match cce)

The gel I am looking at is below.

          Second question:
Would you see any issue using 2x gel pads (so 25cm x 50cm length ~10"x20"). Obviously you wouldn't want to hit from the middle of the 2 but if you hit from the center of pad 1 , you coudl flip it for use later?

          Thanks a bunch!

You’ll likely never wear out the gel, I wouldn’t worry about having to rotate it or use a huge section of it.

So are you gel-less now? If so, do you just have lexan over an air gap or is there something under the lexan (or is the gel still there?)? I've been hitting off of a CCE insert for a few years now and looking to mix it up... I feel like I get thinner and thinner over the winter months and then go outside in the spring and have to re-acclimate to taking a divot.

Whatever you've experimented with, what's held up the best? That's the great thing about my CCE, they last a long time. Also, approx how much do you play (just wondering how much you've used it)?

Yes, still loving the DIY Divot Action. 3/16" lexan is over an air gap. Have been using it every day for around 6 months. The lexan will never wear out. If/when the SynLawn Precision Putt turf wears out over it, I'll simply cut out and replace that section with some double-sided tape.

Huge improvement over the gel creation?

How about a ballpark estimate of how many rounds you've played on the SynLawn Precision Putt turf?

I wouldn't say huge improvement, but a noticeable positive improvement. Club glides thru impact easier with less resistance even when taking deep "divots". Have taken thousands of shots on it, no noticeable wear on the SynLawn yet .

My local Home Depot and Lowes only had thinner lexan. I bought Makrolon brand on Amazon:

Makrolon GP General-Purpose Clear Transparent Polycarbonate Sheet, 3/16" Thickness, 24" Width, 24" Length https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RY8R33I

Does the lexan sheet just have give to it? So you have to have space under it obviously?

Home Depot and Lowes both only carried the thinner piece and they will sag. I got mine from a local plastics distributor.

I’m going to try this using the purple mattress portable pad. I have the purple mattress and the little sample they gave me with the bed seems like it will be perfect for this. The portable pad is only $39. I’ll post back after I build it out.
