  • Another fold up garage build

Just starting out a fold up garage build. My vision is something like a big Murphy bed where the platform can fold up against the wall so I can regain garage space when needed.
My garage is a standard 2 car width but is also 2 cars deep (4 car tandem), so it'll be left down the majority of the time. Just wanted some flexibility if I needed the space for something else.
Picked up a used Protee from a member here added a putting sensor direct from Protee.
Finished building a PC (will add details later).
Got a Carl's premium screen and WCN archery net, there still boxed up till I'm ready for them.
I'm building the platform now. The main part that folds down is 12' wide by just over 9' deep and it'll hinge to another part that's 2' deep by 12' wide. Planning to have the screen and net about 12" from wall.
Here's a couple pics of the platform progress. Ran out of construction adhesive, so done for tonight!!

Thanks to everybody on here, I've gotten great ideas from all of you!

Love the idea, and your detailed description of the project. How much do your side panels (plywood) stick out from your back wall? Was there any reason you chose that length? Keep up the great work!!

They come out about 2'. Only basis for that was I wanted about a foot for the screen and figured the VCAM would take almost a foot when folded up if I decide not to make it removable easily.

Anybody have any carpet tiles they're particularly happy with? Preferably from a big box store.
I was going to have a combination of dark carpet tiles and turf on the platform and put some more tiles on the inside of the side walls.

Picked up a synlawn remnant and installed the turf on the back 4' of the platform. I also put a 6" strip of turf on each side edge to help keep balls from rolling off the platform.
Secured my VCAM too, but still need to dial it in, I think it's close.

Used safety pins to adjust the length of the side curtains. May still need to adjust them some, but it's much better than it was.

I am excited to see someone taking on a movable ProTee setup. If I knew I could move a ProTee setup around in my garage, that would be a game changer. Keep it going, Distin!

Thanks Punte, unfortunately I've stalled out a bit lately. Need to find some carpet for the rest of the platform, but I think what's left will come together pretty quick once I have the materials.

While I'm waiting on my carpet tiles I started farting around with an overlay for the control panel at the back of the platform. I drew up the layout in sketchup and exported it into GIMP to do the graphics. First time using GIMP so if anyone has any suggestions/criticism please share. Here's what I came up with for now anyways.

I'd get it printed on adhesive backed vinyl.

Got my floor tiles in and installed them today.
Painted the floor flat black first, thought was that the double sided tape would hold to the painted surface better than raw wood.
When I got to the putting sensor I used the lipstick trick. It worked like a charm.

Cut out the outlines, stuck down the tiles and IMHO it looks pretty good.

Here's a closeup of the putting sensor cutouts.

Figured I'd hang the screen up too while I was out here. It's a Carl's Preferred (I said Premium in my first post) 10'x7'9".
I ordered the 6" ball bungees with it. Gonna have to look for some 9" or so ones though as the 6" ones make the screen WAY too tight. It's like a trampoline.

                    It's just hanging loose here.

I'm planning to start working on my trim panels for around the screen this weekend.
Was thinking of making panels out of 1/4" plywood and securing those to my pipe frame with conduit clamps and carriage bolts. Then I'd glue 2" upholstery foam to the boards and cover in black trunk liner.
                      Anybody got other suggestions?

Hung projector this afternoon. Ended up getting a Benq 2150st and mounting it just behind my hitting position. No shadows, except for putting which was unavoidable since I putt so close to my screen.
Played Augusta with a friend after I got it hung. Had a blast, this is gonna be awesome!!

How far behind your hitting position is it mounted?

Got my trim panels cut and test fitted today.

Made of 1/4" ply, attached to the screen frame with 1" EMT clamps and carriage bolts that I epoxied in.

Next I'll cut my foam and wrap them in black auto carpet.

Oh man. I dont wanna be a pessimist chap, but I’m not sure you can put enough foam/carpeting on there to stop a missile coming off those side boards. It will look stunning though.......let me know how it works out. Get the most dense foam you can find.

Here's the foam I'm using. It's 2" upholstery foam, pretty dense.

Then just wrap in black trunk liner.

Used 3M super 77 and lots of crown staples. Got 3 of the 4 panels done tonight, last one tomorrow.

Pretty happy with how they're turning out. Nice, deep black around the screen really sets it off. Gonna have a different panel above this to allow the screen to still swing open. And will have mattress wedge pillows along the bottom.

hey there. planning out a similar build right now.trying to figure out the best way to mount the hoist to the floor. You just ended up screwing through the metal plate into wood? would you change anything? thanks
