  • Advice on hole placement in turf for sim

Hi all - almost finished with my sim build. The holes get drilled into the mat/plywood tomorrow, and I’m installing Tour Putt Ultimate Turf throughout. I’m hitting from a True Strike Gel Insert which is getting cut into the floor flush with the turf, and I’ll be standing directly on the turf, as well. I’m hoping someone can take a look at the attached pics, and give me some advice on my hole placement.

I will be installing 5 or 6 holes total, and I want to maximize my ability to practice putting, as well as make sim golf as realistic as possible. The True Strike in the picture is aligned to where it needs to be for the Uneekor QED, but I will be able to putt just off the hitting area on the actual turf and the sensor will still see it for TGC 2019. I’ve placed one of the holes in the picture directly in line with where I intend to stand for sim putting. It’s about 8’ from the middle of my true strike to the hole, so I suppose I would just use multiples of 8 to guesstimate putting distances in TGC. Thoughts on that?

I’ve also been reading about Phil Mickelson’s 3-foot circle putting drill, and I’m trying to arrange one of the holes far enough from the left wall to fit 360 degrees of balls at least 3’ from the hole (plus another 1’ for a person to stand and putt). Please let me know if anyone else has any other tips or good ideas for hole placement.

    Thanks in advance!

I am looking to do exactly what you did. I am still insulating/sheetrocking my garage but I ordered the full true strike mat and I am wondering how to do the insert so it is a smooth transition for putting as I am also getting uneekor and I am thinking I should cancel my order and just get the insert. any pics of it finished?

I cut in a cup directly down the target line of the hitting mat. It makes for a nice intermediate aim point when hitting shots. Since I am using Uneekor, if I have a putt that breaks left to right I can set the ball to the right side of the hitting area and then putt towards the cup I have and the putt will start left of the aim point in the software, which I prefer to having to use the arrow keys to adjust the aim and then hit a straight putt. I also cut cups into the back corners for when strictly putting and not hitting on the sim.
