  • Small cutout hitting mat options?

building a garage sim out and thinking of going with a 15x12’ TFD turf flooring but want some options on small hitting pad cutout mats. I don’t think the fb mats will work for me...and I’ve had elbow issues in past so don’t want to mess with the cce mats.

Anything else i should look at for a mat insert? I have a large 4x5 hitting mat now...but the ocd in me would rather see a smaller hitting block than a 4x5 cutout.

or...if I have double rubber flooring under the TFD putting turf could I just hit off that?

Most of the cutouts you'll see on the bay are either CCE or FB. As a cutout, I really like the pix in the Quattro mat thread Tonysmjc started. He bought a whole Wittek Quattro mat, and cut it up and sold pieces to others. The mat itself as a 5x5 is $400 plus shipping. Took a little labor on his part, but if I decide to move to impact squares, that is the mat I will probably consider first.

I can offer some perspective on hitting directly off putting turf, as that is what I have been doing since I built my set up, which has only been about a month. I covered the floor with high density EVA foam tiles (exercise tiles), cut out a 12" x 18" square for the hitting area and dropped in a gel pad, then covered the whole room with STI NP55 (same as NP50 but different color). Initially it was great; a good feel and clean look. But after ~1K shots, the hitting area turf started to stretch and sort of bubble up. Perhaps it may not stretch as bad without a gel pad underneath, but would have been too hard for my liking (I've hit some shots off areas without the gel pad underneath and its fine for a couple of shots, but too firm and unrealistic). Luckily, this was all in the plan and I did it as sort of a test, knowing that I could cut out the turf and drop in a different insert if I needed to. I am still determining what insert to use, but just keep that in mind if you are planning to hit off putting turf.

I like that thinking of hitting off it and planning an insert later. Let me know how insert shopping goes.
