  • DivotAction? Anyone try this manufacturer?

So like many of you, I'm always watching different YouTube golfers/influencers, because I can never get enough... I was watching Mr.ShortGame and he had a guy come out from Florida to his home in Georgia, to install the turn in what will be his new golf simulator area. The guy who came out created a DivotAction hitting strip and complimenting simulated 1st cut, rough, and sand for the simulator environment. I was interested and decided to check out his website...
    https://www.customdesigngolf.com/divotactiontrade-mats.html

Now, I'm a fiberbuilt user and I am satisfied, but am always thinking about potential replacements for the future. The Sand simulation surface is something I've never seen before, but not somethinga I'd buy at this point... I'm curious if anyone has purchased the regular hitting strip and what their impressions are? Price seems relatively good considering some of the prices we have seen for replacement fiberbuilt strips, true strike, etc...

DivotAction is a nice mat. The first impression everyone gets when buying one and looking at it is, "this is all there is to it"? It's a very simple design that you can create yourself if you are a DIY kind of guy. Its just a mat glued to a piece of plexiglass which a few soft foam feet glued to it.

I needed a custom size which they do not make so ended up making one myself. The only reason I do not continue to use it is that I kept cracking the plexiglass I need a thicker sheet on bottom.

Oh I didnt realize that was all it was... I thought it was one of those spring-loaded deals that generally cost an arm and a leg. What do you use now frodaddy00 ?

I’m a big proponent of divot action. I have the basic fairway (12x24), as well as one that is split medium/heavy rough. I also have two fillers for the front and back so it all fits into my Fiberbuilt tray next to the stance mat.

I have found it to be the most realistic—for me—and least abusive to my joints. I am a divot taker, not a sweeper.

Now, it seems like the turf, specifically the fairway one, won’t hold up as long as some other options. Also, you have to re-adjust the spring clips underneath once in a while or it sags.

Lastly, in my experience, it’s probably the loudest option...something to do with the spring clips, plexi or the action itself, not sure. But it’s definitely louder than anything else I’ve tried

I’m in the early stages of trying Quattro, and so far am impressed. Hit about 100 balls off it this afternoon (it’s 104° in DFW today), and can’t really complain about pain or unrealistic performance.

My belief, unfortunately, is that you have to try them all yourself, as everybody is different, as are their expectations, tastes, and experiences.

I am also huge fan of the divot action. Had a CCE mat and both my wife and I had elbow issues early. Went the the Divot action and you can bang balls all day. My friends prefer it over anything else. Have not heard anything negative at all. I am in the process of doing an insert into a sub floor that I created for my garage sim. ordered the flooring from Turf factory direct, then will cut out so divot action mat is flush. They do have option that you can buy a mat with the insert, or just inserts. They are a simple design but it works for me.

Nice Scottygolf - which one did you order from Turf Factory Direct? Is there always an option where they can cut it for you to insert Divot Action?

Brettster - I originally just bought the 5x4 mat and the insert from Divot Action and used that all winter. But...last week my Turf Factory Direct came in and I installed it last weekend. I had to order a 12x20 roll and it was very heavy and awkward to move. I cut out the insert (carefully). see updated image. much happier with this set up. To Prep, I laid down 1/2 plywood with a barrier so it would not squeak when walking on it. Used a jigsaw to cut out for the insert. works slick, very happy with the update. 36 nylon padded 5MM is what I went with

I’m considering buying some turf factory direct putting turf. I saw several comments about people considering it our have purchased it. But I have not seen any reviews. Has anyone used it? What are your thoughts? Thanks.

SkeetShooter I went to fiberbuilt after my DIY DivotAction kept cracking. I ended up selling the Fiberbuilt only because I was selling other gear and guy REALLY wanted it and gave me more than I bought it for. I am currently using a Quattro/YGT-3D mat.

IMO these are the best 3 mats available as far as comfort and not injuring yourself... can't go wrong with any of them.

I'm on my Fiberbuilt and I like it, however I feel like sometimes its not that realistic with some wedge-play. When I hit full wedges, i'm usually a little aggressive and will get steep on it... It works well on the course, but my fiberbuilt tends to catch it and kill it.

'Catch it and kill it'? How so SkeetShooter ? I worry because I'm setting up a ProTee simulator and the only really good option is FiberBuilt if I want to keep my wrists from hurting - also I play like you, steep and a lot of divot.

I wouldnt worry that much. Honestly, I've been doing a bunch of comparisons, and realistically, the Fiberbuilt has been the best for me. I'd love to try the DivotAction, but don't feel inclined to buy one at this point. If you are considering a CCE, don't do it. It absoliutely blew up my elbow and I had to take a month long break from swinging from it. I can play pretty regularly and never have real issues with pain in the arms or wrists.

Just won an eBay auction for the 4x5 DivotAction with the fairway insert. Currently hitting off a CCE / Matzilla mat. First few swings tell me I'm going to like the DivotAction a lot more.

I agree with the poster who said the unpackaging of the insert was underwhelming. (Except for the darn thing turned out to be brand new.) But, I'm not great at DIY, and I really appreciate the ingenuity of the inventor. Even if I have to replace it once a year, it will be worth it in the pain avoidance department.

Like the look of this mat and a good price! Im based in the UK so emailed them to see if they will ship. I have a tee turf mat which is probably comparable to the CCE (maybe a slightly cheaper version) but hurting my wrists the more i play.

Where did you look Alex.Morgan ? Website and link please? From what I see at the top here SkeetShooter is pointing to a website that offers a sensor mat, purchase of E6/software and more, all bundled into the Divot Action Sensor mat. I don't remember seeing that before, and had only seen the DivotAction mats that appear to be spring-loaded contraptions (like a mouse trap), but that spring back after you hit the ball (take the fake divot), so this is new to me.

I'm going to look if this Premier Divot Action simulator is listed as one in the Simulator forums and if anyone else has used it, and compared hitting balls on it to a GC2, TrackMan, or ProTee?

Brettster here you go - https://www.customdesigngolf.com/div...rade-mats.html

i emailed the company directly and spoken to the CEO before placing my order. When it arrives i will be sure to make a YouTube video and also review my opinion on here. So far Jon has been very good to deal with. Will keep you posted. But my wrists are not in a good way so hoping this will help!!

I ordered one last week and it arrived yesterday. I bought the 5x6 mat with the putting extension and a 12x18 cutout. I got three inserts, the short cut, a combo 1st cut / deep rough, and the sand action. See screenshots...

I also bought the portable screen enclosure from them. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do much test until the net arrives

schwame Do you use this with a Skytrak? I'm wondering about the height of the mat.

Also, how heavy and sturdy is the mat? Is it portable if you need to move it after use?

jmaddox55 - I do use it with the SkyTrak with the FMJ. I was able to set the feet on the FMJ to about the same height as the DivotAction mat. I am still working on calibrating the SkyTrak per @GungHoGolf's recommendations.

As mentioned I have the portable enclosure from Custom Design Golf, so tomorrow night I'll be collapsing it. The mat is marginally heavy and pretty sturdy. Since it's 5x6 it's uncomfortable to move. That said, one person can move it.

Nice schwame - would love to see some video on all of those. Is the 1st cut/deep rough also divot action, it looks .like it might be? Really wondering about that Sand Action too... Let us know when you get all setup.

                    Thanks,
                    -Brett

Brettster, I'll try to grab some video tonight. All three inserts are made by custom design golf. I've only tried the short cut so far as it took me a while to get everything setup.

I’m looking at this exact set up! I’m waiting on my divot action and just got all my samples of TFD in, I’m leaning towards the Nylon 36 5mm padded. What did you use underneath the turf? I’m worried that the foam will be slippery over some things. I have some 3/4” and 1” Eva foam I’m testing it on, wondering if rubber would be better? Also, I’m trying to match the height of the divot action, looks like yours is very close? Thanks for the info!

Luke - since mine is in my garage, I built a platform to offset the slope in the garage floor. I have 1/2 plywood under the TFD. The TFD is very heavy and does not move in my set up. The hard part was cutting out the insert in the floor and then the TFD. The cut out has to be perfect, good luck.

Divot action mat arrived last week from the US - ive installed it and used it for the first time yesterday. So far so good, doesnt hurt the wrists even if hit fat but still get the feedback.
