I've heard that hitting from a fiberbuilt mat is supposed to be just like hitting off a real fairway but they're not mentioned a great deal on here. Can anyone please explain to me the pros and cons of a fiberbuilt mat when comparing it to a top end turf mat like a CCE?

Fiberbuilt v CCE

I've had the fiberbuilt on a couple sims ( GSX and ProTee ). It it quite nice to hit off of, if not a little too nice. You can get away with what would be a chunked shot and not really know it. I currently have the CCE and I'm not a huge fan of it. I'm starting to have pains in my hands and I feel this mat is the cause. I've experienced exceptionally high spin rates of off it as well as big reductions of ball speed/distance if I hit it even the least bit fat. I think I got to the point where this changed my swing in fear of hitting it fat. I've order the ridiculously over priced TruStrike so I'm interested to see how that one is. If that sucks I'll be going with fiberbuilt.
Hope that helps.

Fiberbuilt does mask shots that could be fat; whereas CCE punishes you more harshly like mmlincon said above. Both are considered good mats in the industry, but of course nothing can simulate real grass. Have you considered the divot action mats from customdesigngolf? I have tried all three, like all three, but think the divot action gives pretty accurate feedback! I am at the stage where I don't hit too many fat shots like I use to, so it might depend on what feedback you are looking for. I have never tried TruStrike, but know that it is costly.

I posted about a used mat that I got off of ebay, for $180.00. Its in decent shape. Not as soft as a CCE but very good quality. See the original post Used Commercial Mat.

Aja, Yes it does have more bounce than the CCE, The foam rubber is more dense. Some guys say the CCE is too soft under foot. I have a CCE piece mounted in an Opti Shot mat. That mat, the top frays and burns when its struck with irons and puts pieces of mat everywhere. For $180.00 the used commercial mat is an alternative for guys on a budget or just starting out. I could of saved myself a lot of time and money this year by just buying a top quality mat to start. The CCE is a great mat for $500.00 for a 5X5. I also feel that when I mounted a 12" wide strip it aided with alignment and striking but was not a realistic fairway, tee picture.
Wow that was a long post to say, yeah it does bounce more than a CCE.

I have not hit off a CCE mat. I hit off a fiberbuilt one at GolfTec and loved it. I currently use the divot action mat. I think the divot action can take away some of your distance, although I haven't put hard numbers to that yet. I was just hitting yesterday and hit some off the divot action and then hit some off the other mat material that is used. Seemed I was getting more distance on the firmer surface. I would echo that the fiberbuilt might actually be too good.

I piece mealed the individual components from their site and came up with $425. Someone posted a quote he got ($520) over in the "fiberbuilt opinions please" threadOriginally posted by Mazenblue View PostWhat does the Fiberbuilt cost for a 5X5

I have a CCE 5' x 5' and enjoy the feedback it gives when I hit one fat. I want to be penalized for hitting fat, otherwise I won't get the feedback I need to make changes that I would otherwise see out on the course IRL.
I think it's amazing.

Same for me. It does not hurt my wrists, elbows etc. like hitting off one of the firm driving range mats.Originally posted by goatbarn View PostI have a CCE 5' x 5' and enjoy the feedback it gives when I hit one fat. Since the course I belong to has Zoysia fairways the CCE mat is excellent training for the real thing. The same would be true of most strains of Bermuda fairway grass.
