  • BenQ LK953ST Vs. Optoma ZU606TST-W questions

    Hello,

I’ve narrowed my projector selection to the BenQ LK953ST which is 16:9 4K native, or the Optoma ZU606TST-W 16:10 full HD native. Both have throw ratio of .80 which is what I need to not cast a shadow on the screen with my sim room dimensions. But where it gets tricky for me is my screen size and what size image to project and how each projector will react with adjustment. I.e 4:3, 16:9, 16:10...My enclosure screen is 10’ wide x 8.5’ tall which lends to 4:3. I guess I question with both these projectors at 4:3, which one will have better resolution? Because both are not native 4:3 will they be equal?, or will the 4K projector always have double the resolution no matter the size format? And also since the BenQ is native 16:9 is it able to project 16:10? If so, I understand that since it’s not native 16:10 it will do it by cropping the image but since it’s 4K will it still have better resolution than the native 16:10 HD Optoma? Or am I missing something at all??

    Computer specs
    Core i7 9700
    GeForce RTX 2080ti
    16 GB 2666 DDR4

I appreciate any input or knowledge on the subject. Thanks.

    Hello,

Well I didn’t end up with either of these projectors. I ran into a deal locally yesterday. A live events company near me was liquidating inventory and they had 2 Canon WUX400ST projectors with very low hours on them. The projectors are native 16:10, horizontal and vertical lens shift and 4000 lumens with throw ratio of .56 to .79 perfect for golf sim room. I bought them both I will keep one and try to pass one along here or on EBay.

I'm on the same journey. I have an ultra short throw currently (here). It's nice, but looking for something with super crisp, bright picture. My sim doubles as a home theater as well. How do you like the Canon?

Haven’t had much time with the Canon yet but flicked it on when I first got it and it is bright. In total darkness, the light from the projector image is probably enough light to hit balls in but consider my room is small only 10’x16’. As far as resolution, it’s looks like great HD image, but this is my first projector so really nothing to compare it to. I’m currently installing the projector on mount w/sliding rail so I can go from 16:10 to 4:3 aspect ratio easily. I will say it’s making that job easy because of the flexibility in 1.35x zoom and horizontal lens shift. I have the sliding rail starting at 6.5’ from screen running 4.5’ long to end at 11’ and because of the horizontal lens shift I’m able to mount the projector above the golfers head out of the way of club path.

Please give me link or name to "sliding rail" projector mount. Thanks.

        Hello,

I constructed the sliding rail using Unistrut material from Home Depot. The Canon WUX400ST projector mounting holes are wider than standard and those ceiling mounts to accommodate that footprint started at $200. Instead, I bought 2 $12 mounts attached them to the projector and other side to plywood. I then bolted a modified (I had to cut about 1/4 inch off) Unistrut bracket to the plywood and slid that into the rail.

I agree - that is nicely done! I may just have to copy that design.

I'm running into the exact same situation. Is there anyone out there that has used the ZU606TST-W? I haven't been able to find any reviews online

Can the BenQ LK953ST be ran at a 16:10 aspect ratio with a 4k resolution or would you have to run it at 1920 x 1200?

I have the ZU606TST-W. What questions do you have? We are super impressed by it - very bright and PQ is excellent. It is a 16:10 Native resolution but can project 16:9 (or 4:3) as required - I don't mine is set up at 16:10 for my set up. I should note that while it accepts a full 4K input it projects at 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) so not 4K but still pretty amazing PQ. We are very happy. Happy to expand if you have any specific enquiries.

Do you use swing capture cameras with the Optoma ZU606TST-W ? I know the swing optix ones have screen flicker on replays. I'm going through my build now and have this projector so I'm looking for the swing capture cameras now. Any help is appreciated.

Not quite sure what you are asking but yes we use swing capture cameras. One from the rear and one from the side. We do not have any flicker when we use our DC lighting. Some when the ambient room lighting is on - nothing related to the projector however as far as I am aware.

I'm just looking for what cameras to buy that won't have flicker when used with this projector.

I bought these: Imaging Source DFK 33UX273 cameras with the A3Z2812CS-MPWIR lenses. Some tips to guide you through on this thread: Need Help Installing Imaging Source Cameras - Golf Simulator Forum

What'd you pay for those cameras and lenses?

                  • #13
Cameras were about $400 each with the lenses about $75 per.
