  • BenQ TH671St placement SkyTrak

Just bought the BenQ TH671 ST projector and am waiting for my Carl's Place 8x12, 16:10 aspect ration screen/enclosure. I saw that positioning from projector is 9' 4" from impact screen. My ball position is 10 feet from impact screen and 1 1/2 feet to the right of center to allow me room for my follow through. The wall on the left side is a little tight. I bought a mount that is pretty tight to the ceiling since I only have just over 8 1/2 feet of height to work with.

My question is where can I or do I need to position the projector horizontally so it's not in jeopardy of getting hit and also is ideally positioned to project the best image? I am a total novice with projectors so any advice on how to maximize the 16:9 aspect ratio on a 16:10 screen is welcomed. Actually any input on what I should keep in mind is welcomed :-)

The TH671ST (or any other projector without horizontal keystone adjustment) must be positioned on the center line of the screen. Hitting from 1.5 feet right of center should still be safe from your follow-thru, but only you can know that for sure as backswings and follow-thrus vary by player. Tape a cardboard box up on the ceiling where the projector will go, and use a few different clubs to check whether it's going to be a problem. 8.5 foot ceiling is very low, many players won't be able to use driver with the ceiling that low.

Regarding filling your screen: as long as you're using a PC with an Nvidia graphics card, mount the projector to fill the vertical height of the screen. According to https://www.projectorcentral.com/Ben...or-pro.htm#top, with an 8' tall screen, the projector needs to be between 9'10" and 11'10" from lens to screen. Using a distance on the short end of that range is usually best.

Next: Your computer should have Nvidia Control Panel (NCP) software. Search for it in your Windows Start menu. With the projector plugged in and on, launch NCP, and create a custom resolution of X,XXX wide by 1,080 pixels high. Replace the X,XXX with the calculated width based on your screen dimensions. For example, with a 12x8' screen, you'd take 1080 X 12/8 = 1620.

Then, open Windows Display Settings and choose that custom resolution of 1620x1080.

Really appreciate all that feedback Ron and I actually bought the projector from you a few days ago. I am sure I’ll have all kinds of questions about how to set this up ad I was also curious if the projector is 100 percent wireless. I should know this, but I don’t. I’m 5’ 6 so am OK swinging the driver but know there will be limitations for others. I have a NVIDIA 1650 graphics card and was curious if this will be sufficient. Any other recommendations/tips/tricks, etc. for a newbie would be great.

      Thanks Ron

Wireless capability is available if you purchase the BenQ QCast Mirror HDMI wireless dongle. I would just run an HDMI cable to it. The likelihood of the cable ever failing without physical damage is slim to none.

Just bought the same projector and never heard of this accessory. Any downside to the dongle when using for a golf sim? Any degradation in image from a hard wired hdmi chord? All things being equal this is WAY cleaner at the same cost of a long chord. thanks for mentioning

I do not know as I have never owned one or used one before. I try to stay away from things that add yet another wifi network. Looks like you will lose wifi connection to the PC/Laptop or tablet due to it casting over wifi.

Got it and that was my plan. I bought a 35 foot HDMI that I plan on fishing through the studs.

I'm literally about to do the same thing. Why not spend the $40 for the wireless option? I cant see the downside? I just bought the same projector.
