    Please Help New Setup

Hello, I've been lurking around these forums for awhile but have never posted. I drew a lot of ideas when putting together my room from several projects I've seen here.

I have almost everything setup except the projector part. At this point I simply think I went with a larger screen then I can fill at this point and could use any suggestions on what projector is possibly going to work best for my situation even if it doesn't fill the screen.

    The room dimensions are
    15 and half long
    13 and half wide
    9 foot ceiling

The Screen dimensions are (viewable area)
    102 inches high
    136 inches wide
    4:3 aspect

Ball sits around 8 feet on the mat from the impact screen. and the impact screen and framing for it sits 2 feet off the wall. leaving 13 and half feet from the screen to the back wall.

I went with the 4:3 because I wanted the screen as high to the ceiling as possible to not have issues with hitting most wedges. I currently have no issues swinging any of my clubs and am so far happy with the setup as I can get my feed back from the TV on the wall behind me. However the ultimate goal was also to work in a projector.

Trying to figure out a projector has been almost over whelming. I at one point scheduled a home theater person from a BestBuy to come in and give a suggestion. He basically said he'd have to do some research and get back to me, and has basically ghosted me as I've heard nothing form him. And I'm left trying to figure out the best solution for the situation again. and am stuck as the viewable area start just a few inches from the ceiling with only 13 feet from the screen seems to make it difficult.

Which ones have you looked at and discarded? The BenQ671 would fill your screen when mounted 11.5 feet way (I assume you're wanting a ceiling mount). Will that put your shadow on the screen if you're hitting from 8 feet and the projector is 11.5 feet back and 9 feet in the air? I can't say for sure. I know there is a formula that has been posted here somewhere that can help you determine that.

Calculate the perfect throw distance and screen size for your BenQ TH671ST projector with the ProjectorCentral Projection Calculator Pro.

This one is very similar =

It seems like there have been a lot of questions about this recently. I will restate what I said from a previous thread, you do NOT have to fill the entire screen. The impact screens first purpose is to stop balls. You made a good choice in screen size for the space as it you don't have any awkward gaps to trim out.

Both of the often recommended 1080p projectors (Benq 671st and Optoma GT1080) will work just fine. If it were me, I would fill the width of the screen with the full 16x9 1080p image and hang a valence curtain covering the top of the screen to get rid of the extra white space. This is completely unnecessary.

You could also run either of those projectors with a 4:3 aspect ratio, keeping in mind you are throwing some pixels away, and you have room to fill the entire screen.

See this page for why the BenQ TH671ST is a great choice for golf sim use, and also the side view drawings of typical setups: https://store.gunghogolf.com/BenQ-TH...NEW-p265749740

It's hard to tell from the pictures. But at 13 feet wide, is your hitting spot centered or are you offset? That's always important with projector placement.

To Garnet's point above, you could simply sacrifice a little screen space if mounting a BenQ behind you produces a shadow. Take something that you can mount in front of you, such as this InFocus =

Calculate the perfect throw distance and screen size for your InFocus IN138HDST projector with the ProjectorCentral Projection Calculator Pro.

In 16:9, it will fill the width of your screen at just 5'8'' from the screen (mount it flush to the ceiling to get it out of the way as much as possible). The image height will only be 76 inches, but it will be a very crisp picture. There's 12 inches of vertical offset but that won't matter because you'll have plenty of vertical space to work with.

In 4:3, you could go about 115 inches wide and 86 inches tall before you would run into vertical offset issues. So your image would be taller but not as wide.

I would say check out the BenQ first. If you won't produce a shadow, go with that. If you will, consider a projector that can go in front of you like the InFocus and just sacrifice a little screen space.

Thanks for the replies so far. I guess I hadn't given much thought as to using a 16x9 aspect on the screen. however this gives approximately a 6 and half inch vertical image given the width. Trying to picture this is my head seems kind of awkward when viewing it after it was hit unless I black out the bottom half and use the upper portion?

The Suggested BenQ 671st seems like a good choice I've seen multiple places and the recommended distance puts it approximately just overhead the hitting mat. Which should be fine as I don't have some crazy vertical swing plane. Was going to test with a like sized box from the ceiling just to verify I don't smash it.

The image height will be 6 feet, 4 inches. However, if you center the image on the screen then the top of the image is actually 89 inches high (7.4 feet) because you will have about a foot of blank space at the bottom. And when you're hitting from only 8 feet away, the picture is plenty big. Imagine standing 8 feet away from Shaq. That's what you're hitting into.

This is a good point I didn't think about. It is currently offset to the right by a good bit.

That changes things a bit, because being offset with low ceilings brings the club path in the way of the projector. My suggestion --- find a box or something that is roughly the size of a projector and tape it to the ceiling at 11.5 feet and centered. That will be your position for the BenQ. Take your driver and see if it's in the way of your backswing or follow through. If not, you should be good to go.

If it is in the way, try hanging the box at the 5.8 mark. That will be your spot for the InFocus and the Optoma mentioned above. See if that's in your way.

If that is also in the way, you may want to consider a floor mount. You could floor mount the InFocus or Optoma and produce the exact same image.

Used a laser level across the room on the center point of the screen. It is off set but not a much as i might of thought. I'm going to tape a box simulating both setups to the ceiling at the over head center line at 8 foot 5 inches and 11 foot 5 inches.

hopefully one of them work out preferably the 8 and half one to avoid a shadow.

Thanks for the advice and help so far on this.

Do you need to be 2 feet off the wall? Perhaps you could shorten that and that could open some options. Also, are you going to protect the ceiling in front of the screen for wedge shots?
