I got FSX 2018 yesterday. I am very new to FSX, but I can say for sure the graphics difference from FSX to FSX 2018 is huge. I was not impressed with the graphics in the old version. I even own the expensive courses, and the graphics were marginal. FSX 2018 is a huge difference in the graphics quality! I would say the included courses graphics are about as good as TGC, and the expensive courses look even better than TGC. I am extremely impressed with the graphics quality with FSX 2018. I have not spent enough time to tell you about other features added or upgraded.

I've taken the plunge and paid for the upgrade today - as well as taking advantage of the low course prices.
I ordered 7 new ones to add to my collection...
Spring City Mountain Course
Pete Dye River Course
The Bridges MN
Glen Oak
Jumping Brook
Pelican Hill
Liberty Mountain
I can also confirm the following are now available... Birdsfoot, Cedar Valley GC, Chicago Highlands, Cranberry Highlands, Gearhart Golf Links, Idle Hour Club, Mission Hills - Blackstone Course, Pestovo, Pretswick CC

I was told this PM that they were available. I hadn't heard of any of them, so I googled them.
When I googled them, I found that Cedar Valley is 3 x 9 holes, so I asked which course this was. Front 9 is Trouts Run, and the back 9 is Treasure Island.

Has anyone had any luck getting the ball drop to work? I downloaded the latest update and the ball drop was working on the first hole I randomly played on Lajolla Pines. Came back to play an hour later and couldn’t get the ball drop to work on any of the courses I have. I called foresight support and they told me this was the first they had heard of the issue. The rep told me I needed to be on a green with some elevation changes. I disagreed and after a lengthy time on hold he said they would have to look into it further.
On a positive note, I ordered Flint Hills, that course with the floating green ( no idea how to spell Coure de Alene) and Nine Lakes today.

Hey mmlincon, would above courses be better graphically or quality-wise you think, since they were created recently?Originally posted by mmlincon View PostOf the new courses on the DL site these are the only ones currently available:

I'm in for buying 1 course and I'm wondering what I should be getting. I do want to get an easy course so I can play with my parents/friends.

There used to be a bigger gap in quality between the old and new but the older courses appear to have been revamped, most anyway. I haven't see the new ones yet as support hasn't unlocked them. When you say easy do you mean open and flat or open/flat/short? You can pretty much make any course that doesn't have a lot of trees open by disabling lie penalties. You can bump up altitude to make them shorter as well. Greens are were difficultly can really go up.

What I meant by easy was an open field with no out of bounds (i.e. water, rough) so you can do some clean fairway shot even if you slice/hook the ball. In addition, flatter green and etc. It is true you can change the settings but I didn't want to mess with those. By the way, if you enable lie penalty I noticed on a rough even when I do a full shot the ball went like 5yds. I never had this instance vs other simulator games.

I finally upgraded to FSX 2018 and ordered a few new courses. As many others have said, the graphics do appear much nicer. Still no where near TGC, but a decent move forward. I still have a number of complaints, and new issues found as well:
- Limited keyboard shortcuts. I emailed support about a list of keyboard shortcuts and they told me "it would be just trial and error of different buttons to see what comes up". Here's what I found.
- 'I' brings up the analysis screen, but the only way to close the analysis screen is to use the mouse and click on the X in the upper right corner.
- 'P' : periscoipe
- 'F' : flyby.
- 'H' : hole overview
- 'C' : club selection
- 'B' : ball selection
- 'Space Bar' : autoshot
- The grid on the green sometimes does not show the balls rolling on the green, or is not square to the ball location (the grid lines run at an angle, making it impossible to determine the slope of the green, as the balls are rolling at a 45 degree angle)
- I do like the new menu bar / status at the top of the screen. However, when putting, the distance to the pin is listed in yards instead of in feet. Wtf? If you collapse the top menu bar and only have the small status box in the upper left corner, the distance to the pin is listed in feet. While playing, I like only having the small status box, however, there's no way to pull up the minimap without expanding the top menu bar. This does not have a keyboard shortcut and requires the mouse.
- I have not found a way to keep my account logged in. Each time I start FSX it only has Player 1 listed and I have to log in my account.
The keyboard shortcuts are my biggest gripe. I have a button bar on the floor next to my GC2. With FSX, I can only use it to change my aim. With TGC, I can play an entire round without stepping over to the PC, as I can use the button bar to change aim, see a flyby, open and close the analysis page, etc.

I think you're right about F.
I also wish that if you press a key to open something, pressing that key again would close it. For example, you can press 'I' to open the analysis screen, but your have to use the mouse to close the screen. All of TGC keyboard shortcuts work as a toggle (press key once to open, press key again to close). This translates nicely to the button bar I have on the floor.

I agree with the putting in yards - that is lame. It didn't used to be that way so I would consider it a bug.
I'll add one more - When using birds eye view around the greens the grid disappears making it useless. This didn't used to happen and it could be due to dual screen mode - havn't verified that yet.

Hey guys how can I get the green to show a grid? Mine never shows a grid

What does the auto shot do? On the green while aiming does the aiming pole ever show up? I find it very difficult to aim compared to E6
