  • FSX 2018 bug and request thread

It's been a month or so now since i decided to upgrade my FSX version to 2018. The pain of shelling out £500 ($645!) has now subsided, but i am left feeling disappointed that despite the marginal improvement in graphics it's not a lot different to FSX 2017. It's certainly not worth the money in my opinion, but i had hoped further updates would follow quickly and i would change my mind. Here's hoping. Anyway in the interim i thought i'd start an FSX 2018 bug/request list thread. Please feel free to add.

I am running version 5.0.1.2 which as far as i understand is the latest version.

    Bugs

    1. FSX often crashes when you choose the "Delete all" option to remove past shot data
    2. It doesn't always automatically remember my quad connection, so i often have to go into devices and re-connect.
    3. There is no option to "remember" your FSX live login. It used to be there on FSX 2017
    4. Playing on-line, often doesn't work or connect to servers when recording your shots in nearest the pin compeition etc.
    5. Playing on-line against others. Does it even work? I've never been able to see a game, or host a game on 2017 or 2018.
    6. If i tap the ball maybe a few centimetres at address if sometimes registers it as a shot (arghhhhhhhh , forgot to enable mulligans). Surely an option to ignore ball movements under a certain distance can't be too difficult to implement.
    7. UK customers don't get offered the same course bundle deals that are available in the US. And why is your exchange rate £1-1$. The pound isn't that weak -yet !

That's it for now. I'm sure i'll have plenty more to add.

I have a decent relationship with one of the tech support guys. If nobody else is relaying things I will be happy to be that guy. I did not want to rain on anyone else's parade if I was late to the dance on this. I think there is may be some power in numbers and if we show some unity with some of the requests maybe we can get some more action???
Gee, wouldn’t it be great if they actually had someone who would stop by the forum every so often and give some feedback like Seth does with Skytrak? Maybe prove to your customers that they actually do care? I know they have to watch these forums, please don’t underestimate the importance and reaching out to and having a relationship with your customers!

But yeah, would be nice to get some formal organization around this topic.

I’ve been reporting my issues as I see them to Foresight support.
Some have been addressed, but there are still loads out there that they haven’t.
Look at your data after your shot when playing 2 players, and you’ll see the other player taking a swing!

Lie penalty... how much is it? Most software would say ‘sand - 65-75%’ or something so you know what your being penalised. FSX doesn’t tell you there is a lie penalty until after you strike the ball and you realise it’s barely moved!

I've been playing with lie penalties for a while to get an idea of what they do. First, this seems to vary between courses so there is not fixed value. You don't really get a fixed value IRL so I'm ok with that to some extent. I've started adding notes to the courses I've played with penalties to my site so I can remember what each one is like. I've also started noting how the greens are and a recommend gimmie range for them. This is probably more specific to me but others may find it useful.

Here is what I've noticed so far:

Flier Chance - This almost seems random but could depend on quality of the strike. Ultimately, when you get a flier it says so and the spin is reduced or acts that way anyway. Fairly realistic.
Lie Penalty - This one really depends on courses whether it's the first cut, second cut or anywhere not on the fairway. 10% ish seems to be the most common but I've had some courses where it was more like 20%. I tend to play with real world weather so temps could be playing into this as well.
Severe Lie Penalty - This is one is fairly rare but seems to be in the 50% or more range, very penal. It takes a pretty bad shot to find this stuff.
Sand - The sand seems to be around 40% and it doesn't seem to matter where. Around greens or fairway the penalty is the same. Fairway sand should be reduced IMO.

This tread is nice to discuss the issues but I don't think it's doing any good as to get Foresight to focus on them. shellman19 if you want to be the our voice to Foresight I'd give you an enthusiastic HECK YEAH! I'd be willing to put a page on my site to consolidate the issues. A sort of bug tracker if you will.

I can see about 10 new courses on the download site which haven't been added to the store yet so their development team must be growing. I think I would rather see more game stability and bug fixes than new courses at this point ( I suspect that is different teams though ). Some more game modes would be nice too. A number of the bugs reported seem to be course related so that wouldn't take much to fix either. I'm concerned we haven't seen an update in nearly 4 months with all these outstanding issues. This just makes me think there is a FSX2019 that will be announced at the PGA Show and yep you guessed it. Another $500 upgrade fee for a whole new set of bugs we won't get around to fixing until the next $500 money grab.

Whilst I agree that you don’t get a fixed value IRL, you do have an idea of how much it’s penalising you by looking at your lie.
I know in most fairway bunkers that the “penalty” is the chance of me clipping the lip rather than the lie! Usually I can get a 90-100% shot out of a fairway bunker.

Light rough can sometimes assist my lie by making the ball sit up. Often though, it doesn’t really penalise at all.

The ones that ARE going to effect you are blatantly obvious though. Where your ball is burried, and you have to have a proper stab to get it to move at all!

There is no substitute for seeing your ball IRL... but if they gave you an estimated value (medium rough 75-85%) at least you would know to take an extra club or two (like you would if you could see your lie IRL).

I complained to Foresight Support a couple of weeks ago about the scaling issue of the HMT data in FSX / My Performance, and was advised that there will be a new update with this fixed out at the PGA Show. Hopefully it’s NOT FSX2019 for $500!!

A mild bug I noticed in my setup. Using a laptop and external monitor, and putting HMT ball/club data on the external monitor, I see the text resolution is less than the 1920x1080 of the main screen, making it hard to read. As if they are shifting down resolution from native HD res on the screen. Yet other non-FSX program text has no problem displaying at full HD resolution on the external monitor.
A second, related issue - it would be great to be able to change the font size of text in FSX18 generally. It's quite small, and often difficult to read, even on fairly large screens, and would love to make it larger.

Hey guys.... I just wanted to let everyone know that may be following this thread... I did call and speak with my contact at Foresight and explained to him the general feeling of lack of care of customer feedback by Foresight. I am certainly making zero claims that all our voices will suddenly be heard and that every problem we have outlined in this thread will be immediately addressed but I can tell you that my contact is aware and following this thread and I have been told that it will continue to be monitored from this point forward by him.
His one request is that when listing issues with FSX 2018 (or other supported Foresight software versions) that you be as specific as possible when describing your issue/bug/request for future development. The more specific you get the more likely they will be able to address it.
Again, I am making zero claims about what will actually happen with the information that hits this thread BUT I will promise all of you I will continue to draw my contacts attention to the thread when I see new posts.
I hope this helps the GSF community begin to create a better working relationship with Foresight and I will certainly do whatever I can to continue to facilitate it in the future!

***I am not sure the following is allowed under the GSF guidelines but I am going to re-post this post under a new heading in hopes that it generates additional attention and feedback from other GSF members. I apologize to the GSF moderator if this breaks any rules in doing so... please know my only intention is to help the Foresight using GSF community***

When on the driving range if you select a certain distance to pin, then hit a ball, and then before the overhead view and the results screen finish displaying your shot metrics, you hit a another ball, the distance to the pin will randomly change to a much shorter distance for your next shot.

For example if I set the distance to pin at 150 for my 8 iron and I hit a few shots waiting after each shot for the results a screens to finish displaying my ball and club metrics, the distance to pin will stay at 150, but as soon as I hit a shot while the results screens haven’t yet finished displaying my club and ball metrics, all of a sudden the distance to pin will change to a much shorter distance like 50 yards.

This is bug occurs every time with these series of events.

It seems to me like it hits from where your last ball landed. I turned off the analyze screen so I don't have to wait as long to hit the next shot. If I want to see the number for the last shot I just hit the analyze tab so see the data. It was driving me a little crazy too.

                  bearsmetal,

Yeah I did the same thing. I turned off the setting to have club and ball data display automatically after each shot. I kept the setting turned on so FSX displays an overhead view for a few seconds after each shot.

Instead of having the club & ball data display in FSX, I’ve been simultaneously using the Foresight Perfornance Fitting app on my iPad on the stand to display/view my club & ball data after each shot.

I have the FS Performance Fitting iPad app connected to my GC2/HMT via Bluetooth and I have my PC with FSX running connected to my GC2/HMT via a USB cable.

                  Works great!

                  EricOtown,
I haven't tried the ipad app out yet but that's a great idea. Thanks, I will have to try that. I have only had my sim up and running for a month so far. I am trying to figure out all of the tricks still. This forum is great for learning.

#3 you have to click the username and extra options come up..Keep User Logged In (re-enter password). Every time i start the username(s) are there and live account is connected.
                BUT
As mentioned in other thread if you get a crash back to desktop, it sets it all back to the defaulted 1 player install "Player 1" and loses the fsx live connection. I cannot find where they are storing all the player information, checked all the write able files xml and windows registry.

awitty vrpunk EricOtown bearsmetal Hey guys wanted to see if you guys would be willing to re-post your comments after my post #21 above on the following thread instead:

Not at all trying to be a PITA but trying to create a single thread that our collective voices can be seen and heard by Foresight. I had another good conversation yesterday with a different Foresight representative and I feel I am making progress towards having Foresight related issues monitored similarly to how SkyTrak has their issues monitored/resolved. Anyway, I have asked them to closely monitor the new thread I started in the link above and just want to make sure they see your comments.

***Don't expect anything earth shattering from Foresight in the next week or 2 as everyone and their mother is at the PGA show right now but I am laying the ground work for better things in the future.***

awitty I wanted to ask you if you would be cool asking the GSF moderator to close this thread and direct future comments about this topic to the thread I started. Did not mean to steal your thunder in any way but just want to try and get our issues resolved and I think having a single concentrated thread that is monitored is the way to go. Your thoughts?
