Tried searching for this and came up empty. I have a friend that has made a few courses on his xbox version of TGC. I see some but not the latest. How often do console courses sync to protee servers?

Course sync?

Tired of searching for what? Course syncs are usually every 2-3 weeks unless there is an update that effects it. For example, if new themes are released, the sync will happen after the update so the new themes will work.My Courses:

Toronto GC (L) mthunt
Burlington G&CC by mthunt
Weston G&CC by mthunt

ProTee United , have you given any thought to establishing a set schedule for the course syncs as was suggested in another thread? End of each month or something?

A course sync generates a heavy server load, which will cause disconnects and score card retrieving timeouts (unable to play). Unfortunately its not an incremental process, so it doesn't matter how many new courses are added. We prefer to run it when we release an update or when there are ~5,000+ new ones.

If all users were made aware that the server would be done for whatever (6 hours? 8 hours?) at a set time each month to load new courses, I would think people would be fine with it. I know there are several great new RCRs that many of us are looking forward to...but I have no idea how that translates to whether there are 5000-ish new courses.

Thats the idea, but at the moment we have no means of informing the users (ouch). We need to implement a notification system to push maintenance messages.

Within TGC there are the 'messages' that show up on the main screen. Usually though they are seemingly random messages about 'so and so just got a hole in one'.
Can you use that message space to broadcast information about possible server unavailability?

Sure, the problem is that maybe 3% of our customers are visiting/reading this forum...Last edited by ProTee United; 03-03-2016, 05:34 PM.

Don't you have a full database of email addresses you use to send messages when a version update happens? Could the same database not be used to trigger an email warning users that the system will be down between whatever times this coming Saturday (for example)? Sure you'll still get people emailing saying their system isn't working, but hopefully the majority would get the email and be prepared for it.

When the sync does happen, I highly recommend checking out "Fox Chapel Golf Club (ProTee)" (or the straight "Fox Chapel Golf Club" if 6700 yards is in your wheelhouse). It's really well done recreation of the course that was published recently.

Yep. Probably 95% of the protee versions are made by the designers on the PC (steam) or console game and published there, then they come over when the course database is synced. Sometimes a designer (on the steam/console game) will email a course file to one of us here to publish directly onto the protee server...so those ones show up right away.
