Finally.... almost finished.... but TGC/SkyTrak putting a shocker!

I've found that although a ball on the laser dot works extremely reliably for anything other than short putts, short putts I have to bring the ball 1 - 1.5" closer to me. And that reads 100% of the time now.

Before I worked this out, I was chipping 6 footers just so they read. This dot position is of course controlled by what BadEddieKit suggested - SkyTrak height, as well as the tilt of the machine towards or away from the player - you may wish to check that if you haven't. I have found the bubble level way out in this regard.

Another suggestion among the other good ones - if you're using a shield, try without it to eliminate that as a cause.

shimonko I have tried just about everything else (having the same issue as OP), I will try moving the ball closer to me. Am I correct that you move the ball away from the Skytrak ("closer to me") and 1-1.5" away from the laser dot?

For the record, I'm using SkyTrak with TruGolf E6 and putts under 8' are VERY frustrating (hardly ever read). Some of the things that I've done to compensate are; set greens to "slow", gimme's are set at 8', black background behind the golfer, Every lighting configuration possible, raise/lower skytrak, etc. Thanks for the tip... hope it works.

If moving the ball closer to you doesn't work, try moving the skytrak closer to your projection screen, so that the red dot is closer to the front of your hitting mat. This worked wonders for me, wouldn't read when the red dot was in the middle of the hitting mat.

Yes, that's correct, away from the SkyTrak. I suspect from the varying solutions that work for different people is that you just have to play around with the ball position with respect to the dot for putting to see what works for your situation. I have one of those octagonal hitting mats and moving the ball closer to me also gives the SkyTrak more time to measure the ball before it drops off the mat - maybe that's why it worked for me. BEK found it liked it towards the front of his hitting mat.

I did find that when the putts weren't recognized, it was SkyTrak sending out all zeros to JNPG, which rejected it.

The SkyTrak unit however needs to be in putting mode to recognize such short putts - is there anyway you can see if this is happening? JNPG automatically sets putting mode when the ball is on the green, or one can do it manually if not through the game and the interface to SkyTrak. Have you got the equivalent in E6?

I just wanted to let you know (anyone who is having the same issue) that moving the ball away from the SkyTrak was INCREDIBLY SUCCESSFUL and I have now lowered my gimme's to 6'. I may lower to 4' and give it a try. I found that the shorter the putt, the further away I would move the ball (up to about 3"). In addition, we found that short chips or high lofted approach shots were also better registered when the ball was set away from the laser.

CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH!!! This has tripled the enjoyment of the SkyTrak!
