  • DIY sim build

Been getting ideas on here for a while and over the last year and a half aggregated those into building my own sim room in the house i bought last year. I figured I’d finally share it.

The first build didn’t go as well as i built a wooden frame for the net and connected it to the studs in the walls. Every shot transferred that energy into the frame of the house and to say it sounded like a gunshot was an understatement. I learned from those mistakes and with a combination of angle iron and bungies I made a much more quiet and absorbing setup.

I only have 9’ ceilings but for me (5’11” with a flat swing) it is no issue. My 4yo will have a long time before he has to worry about it as well. So far with a handful of friends only one has grazed the ceiling and he has a weird follow through. Worst case I’ll try to raise a part of the ceiling, but not worth it if it’s only a problem for guests. We can always play par 3 courses.

Then it came to launch monitor. I started with a SkyTrak, but had issues. The distances would seem correct, but it heavily favored a draw spin. I tried messing with alignment and hitting cuts and there was just way too much deviation in the horizontal launch angle. Just switched it up to a GC2 running TGC and it is phenomenal. Results are so much better. Stoked to be able to play over the colder months.

Listen you can steal my wife. Eat my food, but I draw the line at having the same putting cup. :-)
I love having the big basketball putting cup. I havent made one yet.
Thank you for sharing I love the look. I believe we might have the same mat.

Thanks! I’m pretty happy with it. Took some time to get it right. Learned from a few things that didn’t work. Get a fair amount of compliments from guests that see it in person.

Looks awesome, what are the measurements width/length of your room? I'm hoping to do something similar, very soon - I have to have the basement dug out to do it though I wonder what the life is on that zoysia mat, how has it been holding up?

Room is 17’ x 20’ it was a media room for the previous owner. Only 9’ ceilings but hasn’t been an issue for me. Takes a bit to feel free indoors anyway. The zoysia mat has been good. A year in and minimal signs of wear. Where the SkyTrak laser dot typically goes it’s a little raised up, but i bought a 5’ x 5’ mat. So i can just rotate it 90* every year and it’ll be like new.
