  • New optishot purchase

Hi all, have already read a lot of info from this forum, so thought I'd join up. I've just purchased an Optishot from ebay, coming all the way to Sydney Australia, was shipped fast enough, but stuck in our airport right now. I'm coming off a 2nd hibernation, playing as a teenager down to about a 10 handicap before choosing another sport more seriously, then a failed attempt to revive my passion for it 5 years ago, mainly failing due to time to play/practice. Now at 42, I'm back. I've been watching the sport intently for the last few years after getting a cable subscription, but time to play just seems like a fantasy world to me. However, killing an hour in the evening after work is much more realistic, so now that I've moved into our new house, I have the space and a vision to make this happen. Would dearly love this in our front living room, could more easily justify a projector then as it would double as a movie projector, but the height is not quite there, at 2.7m (almost 9 feet). The garage will be fine, but won't be getting a projector, so just a net, a mat and my laptop. Started already without optishot, hitting balls into the net this last week, really happy with it so far, so just need to add the optishot. Would love the skytrak, but it's hard to get one to Sydney, and just way too much of an investment this early, and... it's a lot of money anyway.

My plan is to use the optishot for what good it is (and I'm hoping it's really good), and have a backup plan of a local indoor simulator place, somewhere I can verify the numbers of the optishot occasionally. Will report back once I have everything setup.

Thanks, I am taking a good hard look at it now. Seems like a better solution with exception that it would be more cumbersome for my kids or buddies to come over and play. I need to pull the trigger one way or another when I have the funds. If I don't I'll end up with a new set of clubs.

I have just the opposite opinion. I've owned both, and the Optishot seems far more reliable and frankly a little more enjoyable. I prefer the Optishot game to TGC game because course replications seemed better and the optishot has on-line play, where as TGC with R-motion doesn't. Second optishot is near realtime. R-motion is swing and then wait a few seconds to see the results. I had a lot of frustration with my R-motion and never completed a single course without something happening. I've had some missed swings with optishot but it's always worked.

I'm surprised you had so much of a delay after hitting the ball. Mine is less than a second. Pretty much the same as Optishot.

I have a SkyTrak, but I bought an OptiShot 2 so I could play with my grandkids without worrying about someone bashing a club into a $2000 unit! I my opinion, I rank the SkyTrak way higher in accuracy. Shots I know should slice badly are more like a gentle fade on the OptiShot. My club distances are much longer on the OptiShot as well. My biggest complaint is having to tape my clubs to get good readings, then ripping the tape off to play real golf, then taping them again to use the OptiShot.

I do like the fact that the OptiShot is fun for my grandkids and it's getting them into golf! Being able to play the courses as par 3's makes it even much more fun for them. However, if you are really looking to improve your golf game, save your money and get a real launch monitor, where you can get some good, accurate data. I love my SkyTrak and TGC, and it has helped my real life golf game HUGELY!

The one area that optishot has an advantage over R-motion (maybe skytrack) is the real-time response. The R-motion with it's sensors and bluetooth communications will add 3 seconds from your swing impact to the time action occurs on the screen. It doesn't take much to see this in youtube videos. Skytrack did the same in videos I've seen with TGC. I really wanted to like the R-motion and TGC, but my device broke open on a swing, it would loose communication way to much and then there was http://store.steampowered.com/app/269730/The_Golf_Club, for $39.99 and then you look at the $499 R-motion TGC upgrade (to the so called full-version). What do you get, a diamond studded USB key?!?!? I mean really? What kind of pricing model is that?
I really enjoyed the R-motion when it worked (for me that was rare). I may try it again later but for now, I'm enjoying optishot on 1920x1280 projection screen in great detail and it's sweet.

We are not seeing 3 second delays Chuck.

There is really no need to constantly bash R-Motion in all your posts, just because "you" had some weird problems with it. You requested and received a full refund.

Your right. I've said all I need to say on R-motion. There are many positives in R-motion, like not having to tape clubs or having to build a stance mat. I liked the TGC user interface better than Opti's. When the next version comes out, I may give it a try again. It's been interesting learning all of the factors that go into a good simulator. Like all technologies, they will improve over time, and with VR being adopted so quickly, that might be were we are heading in the future.

Just a follow up no. R-motion's support services was really good. I had many good back-and-forth emails with Rapsodo on my issues With him on board, I'm confident R-motion will make waves in the simulator game market. On the games side, the price model is odd (in my opinion).
