I hear ya Mike, It's not real golf and you have to adjust your swing . Whenever I play real golf after playing opti all winter I must top the first 20 shots until I start taking divots !!

It happened a lot in the beginning, then after taping and calibrating and matching your real offsets for each of your clubs, it has gotten a lot better. Also you almost have to learn how to hit on the Optishot to avoid misreadings.

With that said, you will still get misreads. Unfortunately, this is the system we are dealing with. OptiShot is great for the price point, but has the fewest sensors than any other simulator. So it can't be 100% reading correctly all the time.

If someone really turns the club closed after impact (in real life the shot may be straight or a slight draw), but the last Optishot sensor sees the club face closing and it really exaggerates the club face and gives these ridiculous club face readings. (same as very Open)

So, with all this being said, Optishot is still fun to play, but we will all continue to experience these issues because this Simulator is very limited. The best you can do is setup your lighting correct, tape your clubs, adjust club off sets and calibrate your clubs. That's about all you can do, and you will still get misreads.

I enjoy playing Optishot and have a lot of fun. But I have a Skytrak and am looking forward to the new E6 cloud software integration that is happening sometime in March 2015. I am very excited because I will finally be able to play golf simulation that is VERY ACCURATE! Also another option is ProTee. But the most affordable solution I think around the corner is Skytrak $2000 and $25 per month for E6 Full Ver. That's gonna be hard to beat!!!!

I hope many of us that struggle with these issues in this league will look into the Skytrak launch monitor. You will have great graphics, top courses and a very accurate launch monitor that reads ball spin (which is the most important variable in a good launch monitor).

Until a better, more accurate solution is available we are going to have to deal with the limitations with Optishot.

You have to learn and teach yourself how to hit on the Optishot correctly (stance, swing, impact zone, being very careful not to turn your wrist).

I think Mike you have hit it on the head here. The next cheapest alternative is $2000 and $25 a month, Optishot is a one off payment of $400

The open/closed face thing is a lot to do with your swing, but as Maxx and Mike say, its just exaggerated on Optishot. The Wind affects are exaggerated, before we turned the clubs down, the Driver distances were exaggerated,

The limitations are if you top the ball you get crazy distances due to the acceleration of the club, and its reads the club not the ball, its just the way it is.

I see your point on mulligans, as its pretty clear when its a poor shot or a misreads 99% of the time, but unless we force recording of both the game play and the swing of the player showing the matt, and have someone check through every shot of every round, its going to be impossible to police.

It is weird just how many misreads you get. I think i get one or 2 per round, but then when i watch the video back its often an alignment issue, that probably in real life wouldn't have such a crazy effect, but on optishot it does.. its just the limitations of the machine

Willy i think you are unfortunate mainly because you clearly have a very fast and aggressive swing, and I think optishot simply at times probably cannot cope with it.

The key to good face angle reads is making sure those sensors have a clear unobstructed path upwards, so trim right back any surrounding turf straggles or anything like that, and having very smooth, shiny bottoms on your irons.

If theyre remotely fancy, or angled, or any matt finish of anything like that, and remotely uneven in appearance from heel to toe. then there will be differing levels of reflection along them and at the speeds your swinging at, they may well get a strange reflection hence the misread.

Imagine passing a mirror over the top, but one half has got dirt al over it. Itll still reflect, just not as well

This is why taping your driver has helped so many people so much, and why if youre struggling it may well be you have to try a different driver..

I gave up using my X2hot, I now use my old wilson deep red 10.5, nice flat shiny bottom, no tape, works fine

If you dont want to tape you irons, i didnt as think its a pain in the ass, then could try some reflective paint.

Wont harm your club, wont be able to tell its even there and on base of irons wouldnt really matter. Perhaps not for your nice shiny driver, tape is probably the only safe option there but could give this stuff a go

      http://www.amazon.com/Reflect-All-12...ustomerReviews

Ive tried this stuff here in the UK

Professional grade, ECO safe glow-in-the-dark paints. Tough and very long lasting indoors or out. British made. Guaranteed for 10 years.

Its like a pen that you apply the paint with, and it dries completely clear, wouldnt even know its on there.

I never had problems with my irons, but my brothers are a matt finish and his werent great. Put this stuff on and no problems what so ever. however cant be sure it wasnt just him causing the issues, as hes new to golf, only just off 28 index, when he started on optishot, so hard to truly say.

Worth a shot, depending on how valuable your irons are. maybe try it on an old iron first to see what effect it has.

The alternative are either spending a hell of a lot of money, living with it or going without as I think you have tried every possible solution we can all think off.

Only thing left to change are your clubs, either my upping their reflectiveness, or trying a different set

Howdy. Not sure if this has been covered before but what about Hybrid settings. I have a 16 ,22 & 26 degree. to get real life shots I need to adjust the distance up 5 or 10% Is this ok?

Yeah, as long as they reflect real life distances, roughly in line with what would be expected with regards your driver speed and distance (ie if ya driver reads 100MPH, 250 yards, would be weird if your 16 deg hybrid reads 110MPH, 240 yards )

It appears the real issue is mental challenge of accepting the errors of OS in your tournament game of golf. My son has been stating lately his dislike to play a round if when it counts your are going to get crazy shots that appear out of nowhere so why play. Our games tend to be within 2-strokes of each other so it gets competitive.
I know my shots are crazy so I tend to accept it more readily. HIs shots are usually so straight you cant even see the tracer on the screen. He is dying to compete but cant accept the amount of misreads he gets during a round to keep his focus. He is young though so it doesn't take much...lol

JM really helped me get to a much better place with the OS but I would still say while playing an actual round and not on the range the driver issues rared their ungly face again. With his help I would say I am 95% happy with the readings other than the D. So as I am playing without as many errors. I would say the mental challenge of accepting mis reads during tournament play is the difficult part to accept.

My discussion with him to keep his motivation and focus during the round is: Your real game has a few errant shots so treat them the same and take the extra stroke or strokes due to the mis read and keep it equal to your real game errant shots and how you deal with them.
Hopefully we will get our gig together and get in on the tournament scene soon.

                      Gentlemen,

I want to remind all Players that Loft and Offsets Setting Should match your particular Club you are hitting as outlined in our Guidelines... Adjusting Offset Settings to correct Swing Flaws will not be Tolerated... Consider this a warning if this applies to you, and if it does correct it Now!

Thanks \\ Any Reports of unrealistic lofts or Offsets will be investigated

Offsets have been added to Current Guidelines, not sure why we didn't carry this over from original Guidelines, but consider it amended..

To be more clear on Recordings for Pro Tour League the following will be amended into Guidelines:

The Pro Tour League is held to a higher Standard in regards to accountability for Scores Posted.. All Rounds Must be Recorded showing Clearly Ball Setting, and Club Setting, and then Posted on the Online Golf tour Video Thread... , No Players are Exempt from this...

Club Settings - Loft, Offsets, and speed and distance within Guidelines, ensure that the Video Quality is good enough to see all Club settings.

All Recording are subject to other Players Scrutiny to ensure players are playing within the Guidelines. Tour Pro Players that report concerns to me or the board, will be investigated promptly. Any obvious manipulation of software, or unrealistic settings, found during review of Vide0 will be subject to banning from Pro Tour League, and from Site.

All players that fail to post video's will be disqualified from PGA Tour Tournament upon closing Event. No exceptions

                          Thanks CatMan

                            Offset values

Hi john / CatMan, I have a set of forged irons and the supplier indicates the offset from 3.5" for my 3 iron, 3" for 4 iron down to 2" for 9 iron. How to translate it to the optishot valus 0.264 which is standard setting? And what with my 5 wood where i have no value for that? Can I leave the standard settings as they word well for me and meet my real shots?

What you can do is convert the Metric to imperial Standards Here is a Link: http://www.metric-conversions.org/le...-to-inches.htm Use this link to convert I had to do the same for my RBZ's Make sure you covert to decimal instead of fraction...

That's way your offsets are exact to you set...

                              Great Question Hope this helps

I tried to find mine from both manufacturer website and golfclubspec.com and couldnt find any info so mine are pretty much as standard using the game improvement irons default values, with the odd minor change from what little info i found from best comparison to my actual clubs.

I would say you can only go with what youve got, so as long as close to standard then no major issues in my opinion, the big issues is when drastic changes are being made to correct swing flaws. This, as Catman says is not acceptable and also really pretty pointless

Lets not forget although this is a competition you are also practicing with view to helping your real life game.. whats the point of hitting straght draws on here due to offset changes, then going on on a real course and slicing it all over the place.. you are only cheating yourselves if you decide to do it, and really you may as well save yourself some money and buy Tiger woods on the Playstation or Xbox

Videos are watched by other players and board members, and we all pay attention to these things, especially now its been highlighted so just set to your actual set or leave as standard with perhaps a very minor tweak and you wont go far wrong.

Thats my personal view, as theres no way anyone can know what clubs your hitting, just don't try and make your game something its not..
