I can tell you for sure that there are discrepancies between sims, My buddy lives down the Road and I played on his and his setup.. My Swing Speed was 104 average with Driver, on My simulator my swing speed is average 95... almost a 10 MPH Difference....
So if we have a set number this will cause an advantage for one and not the other...

The problem that you and the board face is how to police the rule (if implemented) that everyone must adjust their settings to the real world. Wasn't there someone not long ago claiming to have 140 mph real world swing speed?Originally posted by CatMan View Posthttp://probablegolfinstruction.com/f...calculator.htm
Here is a Link that you can put your club speed in and it will give the distance you should be getting with your Driver,, If you know your distance you hit you can adjust your Distance and Speed to match your Golf Swing with Driver..
That's what I am going to do
This is why I think that a cap is a good idea. It seems from reading around here that prior to online play just about everyone had their speed and or distance settings set from 85 to 95% and were happy with the results mimicking their real world shots.
I've pretty much come to the conclusion, based on more experienced users posts, that Opti Shot swing speeds are likely off by at least 10%, so I don't see a problem with having everyone adjust from 100% to 90% and see how it plays out. Brad brought up an interesting question that will need to be addressed by testing, do we adjust swing speed or distance? That I can not answer because I don't know how swing speed equates to distance in the programming.
Personally I have no idea what my swing speed is. I was tested years ago and believe I was in the 118-122 range, but it was so long ago I'm sure it would be different now. What I do know is my average carry distance that I GPS verify just about every time I tee off in the real world.
I also still think some incentive to stream would make it easier to notice any potential issues while still allowing non streamers to compete.

The biggest issue we deal with is that some players don't really know what there real numbers are.... So we try to fix it for everyone, and in some cases hurting the players that know their averages. That's not right, and not real.. What we really need is players to know what they really hit out on a Range, and come back down to earth and make the adjustments and not put everyone into the same boat for the few..

Are you able to swing a Driver now with your setup? Or was the 95 average with your setup and only able to swing the 3 wood?

Good question and I probably was not being clear on that one. The answer is... I'm not sure yet. I'm leaning in the direction of having 90%speed.Originally posted by braycobbAre you proposing capping at 90% for Swing Speed or Distance? Probably due to our set up differences, I don't see the swing speed variation. My differences are with the distances Optishot interprets for the swing speed. With my setup, changing the Distance percentage essentially takes into account spin, to reflect my real world distance. For others it may be swing speed. For others it will be a combination. Each player just needs to spend a little time on the range tweaking the numbers. The hard part is that there is no way to "monitor" the settings. We would just need to trust that each have their settings to match their real game. We will still see lower scores due to other reasons many have already mentioned.

The other thing we need to remember is we set our Tee in the Middle and Back right now 6500 -7500, so the approach distances are not going to change that much if we get everyone hitting 275 or less, if you need to start hitting off Front Tees and Middle...

This is actually all pretty simple. Just set you clubs up so they go the distances you believe they go in real life. No one on here believes they consistently drive 300 in real life, no one belives tey drive less than 240 in real life. This "I dont think you can do this because this web page says so" stuff is just crazy.
Hogan I never wanted you to feel that I was making you out to be a bad guy, Im just saying that my clubs are set up to how far I hit them in real life. I GPS everytime I play, I know my yardages and these clubs are setup to them. My Swing speed is 105 average, my yardage in real life is 240 - 250 carry, rolling out to 255 265 on an average fairway, and my irons all go the distances I set them too as otherwise whats the point in having a sim, id just play tiger woods.
Ive tried a lot of distance settings as think my swing speed reads OK for Driver, and found 93 gives me the figures above. For Irons I have to raise my distance setting by 10% or so for most irons, and 20% for wedges to get my yardages I hit week in week out on course. If this is not acceptable then will change it if the rules dictate but just seams to be pointless when Im trying to simulate as best I can a real round of golf.
If you think a +8 and a +12 isnt possible on here for an 18Hcap I would say you mustve forgotten the major issues of a mid to high handicapper. Consistency, and accuracy. A lot of these variables are removed by Optishot, as its pre aligned and perfect lies and contacts every time. I could play off 36 and still drive 300 yards in real life, come on optishot, drive 300 and play off 10, I think the alignment lie, and ball strike elements make that much difference.
By all means set the range to a fixed distance, it will stop the 300+ club blasting balls further than they would in real life (not necessarily fair if they do hit 300+), but if it takes a rule to do so then so be it. I would have just hoped everyone would setup their SIMULATOR to simulate their real world experience. Everyone is different, and I see the advantage of a big drive, but I dont think its the be all and end all. And like ive said all along, if someone keeps shooting low scores the handicap system should cancel it out.
I do think we may need to look at negatives handicaps though as if Vega and co keep shooting these scores we'll all be playing of some very high marks to keep them at 0 and the leaderboard score will look ridiculous. Im not convinced that just be reducing their drive distance we will see there scores tumble though, as i think they all play very good golf and its not that much harder to hit a 7 iron into a green as opposed to wedge in optishot. In real life yes, in optishot not nearly so much.
Ill just keep playing with the settings I know are true to me, unless they contravene a rule and carry on enjoying trying to improve my iron accuracy and short game.
Ill always struggle to stream as rural britain hasn't really reached the high speed broadband age as of yet, but I will record all my rounds from now on and see if I can also record my swing at same time. I play in the dark though so wont be the best pictures
I hope it doesnt come across that since I'm new I'm just moaning and trying to make changes to everything to suit me, far from it, I dont have any issues with whatever anyone else does or doesnt do or can or cant do. I just thought this was a simulation and wanted to be able to use the settings I use to simulate me on a golf course in an online environment.
Sorry to all that may or may not have been offended or enraged by my posts
Cheers
