  • To be real or not to be real?

Set Optishot for real life distances or not?

So thanks punte for saving me time and money to prove my point that I been saying from day one. And this looks like it's used to calibrate was a trackman. So I think this conversion is done and I can go to the board with this information and go back to my settings I had previously.
Punte's launch angle is lower than yours, his smash factor is higher and his ball speed is higher. All of those things indicate that your carry distance is less plus your roll out distance is less.

    • By the way: What's the difference between stock and thick turf? If it's only the distance from sensors then i will make my turf thicker...
Reason for this: I've tested the settings for stock and thick turf and thick turf settings fit more to my real life distances. Could be because I'm hitting my driver very high...

A very high tee will behave the same as thick turf... So you might need to contact the board and get checked out and maybe get exemption.

        • As long as you can prove your real life swing speed then you can apply for exemption, as I'm guessing you believe optishot is reading you speed low hence why you think you need the extra speed % associated with the thick turf setting

And imho that must be the same for everyone else too, though folks always err on the side of the longer shot for their average.
Talk of someone needing to increase beyond 100% to reflect their real game is fantasy. I also cant see how or why you would want to impose a limit on swing speeds thats the fast swinging players advantage (id say they also suffer from greater dispersion too). I stream every round and before i tee off i demonstrate the ball and club settings, i also include a webcam of my swing. This is my insurance policy should i ever shoot a low score and come under suspicion.
Personally id rather play my realistic distances but its impossible to police so 100% seems the only way, we could all agree to a lower value like 85% but you can imagine the length of debate that would cause..
33 pages id say, plus 2 other threads, lots of disagreements, plus hours of testing to come up with what was basically said here

Brilliant work everyone, thanks for all your input. The final proposed new rules are now being taken to the Board for approval

I'd encourage you all to read back through this thread. Interesting to see how the different sections of our new rules materialised with little bits of info from so many people, the difference between foam and Real etc very interesting

Hopefully Hogan makes it back. I think he could agree to the changes.

Thank you especially JohnMeyer for the hard work. You have literally worked on this more than anyone spending hours with folks testing and writing and rewriting and rewriting again the final draft.

              Much appreciated.

              • I agree and great work and dedication John. When this league blows up a d we have a hundred players, the rules will be much needed. Also thank you you to everyone who has contributed to this.

                cheers
