I was just wondering how the SIM room would help as I seem to have plateau'd these days despite taking some lessons once in a while and spending quite some time on the regular driving range.

Who has improved their hcp since having a SIM room?

The thing I have noticed is it does help you be more of a mechanical golfer. I was more of a feel golfer last year and years past. Also with consistency.
I was a 7.5 handicap last year.
I played about 100 rounds this winter on the sim and it has helped with yardage’s mostly.
Knowing what a 80 yard shot feels like, what the swing is.
Knowing what a 55 yard pitch swing is all the way up to a 180 yard shot.
Knowing what clubs to use or knowing what clubs you could use as a knock down.
I have a range finder and went out yesterday to my home clubs opening day, par is 72. I Shot a 76 and a 78. Consistency was actually really good. And when I came to a shot and got the yardage. Knew exactly what club to hit, how hard, etc.
Looking at 4-5 handicap this year 👍🏻
But that’s just my take.

I concur with KPaas with the sim I can practice shots without spending all day on the range. I can run out to the range and practice for an hour. Maybe in that session work on 7 or 8 iron cut shots or draws. Whatever right without going to the range for 3 hours.
My swing might not look pretty, but now I am going to the courses and people are commenting on how good my ball striking is.
I reached my first par 5 in 2 last week. This is due to the fact I knew what I wanted to do off the tee and how to hit my second shot (baby fade over a tree). I was a 30 Hdcp in January I'm down to 20 now.Last edited by triplebogeysrbetter; 04-23-2018, 06:20 PM.

I will! Atleast the TGC tour. I still have the WGT package until next March. This black Friday I'm buying a gaming laptop and then a TGC license.
I've busted my budget for now on my build and other golf expenses.

You might be able to get TGC 2019 by then :-) Well that's what I'm hoping for

This is very true. I'm thinking of buying it on PS4 first to see the graphics. Also, I can design our local courses.

This is my 3rd year with a SIM. The first year I dropped about 3 strokes...95 scoring average to about 92. The following year about the same...no improvement. This year started to take lessons and scoring about 90 now but really feel I am about to turn the corner. Yesterday, at a course I have not played in awhile shot an 83. The warmer dry conditions really helped. With the lessons and the sim I am hoping to drop do an average score of 85.
I never had a golf lesson before and my game was really missing some key fundementals

In the 20 years of golf I played before getting skytrak, I would average 100. My lowest round ever was 93, and my lowest 9-hole score was 42.
In the last 3 years since getting skytrak, I average 90, and have shot a low round of 85 (with a 38 for 9 holes).
So it has helped me a lot, but I have not improved much last year. Went from like 18 hcp to 17.7 (according to game golf).
I may take a lesson to try and take it to the next level.

During last golf season I pretty much tried to use the skytrak to dial in my wedges and short irons. I definitely saw improvements from knowing those distances.
I cannot say whether my handicap has gone down yet as I only started working with my full swing on my Skytrak in November after last season ended. I would say though that just having the SIM room is not going to make a big difference unless you are going to either take lessons or work on specific shots and find ways to identify what your issues are.
I made a huge swing change over the last four months after finding some changes I wanted to make on you tube lessons. These changes shallowed out my swing and completely changes my rotation. I finally got outside to the range today (finally some nice weather) and saw the changes to the way I was hitting IRL. I can say that as soon as I made contact, I knew exactly what the ball was going to do as it matched what I was seeing on skytrak consistently.
I used a combination of the skytrak and the Coaches Eye App on my phone to video my swing and that was where I see the real value. Also, being able to work on it during the off season.
Now that I have made these changes, I will probably play for a couple of months and determine any other weaknesses Then I will probably get a lesson or two.

Thanks for all the responses! Much appreciated. My SIM room won't be ready before my new home will be finished in August unfortunately. My plan is to do a lot of practice to try to get an optimal path, a better face/path relationship and better dynamic loft which together I would hope would help with getting more consistent. Perhaps, I am too optimistic. My index has been as low as 4.3 about 2 years ago but is has gone up now to 8.5. Would really want to go back to below 5 again. I assume that some online lessons with a focus on the numbers would be most beneficial. Shankygolf seems a good place to start because he also has the CG2 + HMT and I read some good reviews about him.

Went from 11 to 7 in a year and a half and if I can figure out how to two putt it'll get down to a two or three. Shot my first round of IRL under par golf this January - less than 14 months after getting the sim set up. Also rely heavily on ggswing tips methodology to make swing improvements. No lessons.

Hey Golfbeat, great question. Since I just moved in to the new house and the sim-to-be is still in boxes lying on the floor, I don't have a personal experience to share. That being said, I can't see how the sim won't be a huge asset toward lowering the handicap. Like any tool, it's all in how you use it. Aside from other obvious advantages, I'm really looking forward to having a way to practice all kinds of shots any time I want. E.g. every time I have a swing "epiphany", I won't have to wait a week or two to take it to the range or the course to try out like once or twice... I can put it to the test while the feeling is fresh. Also, if it's good, then I can rehearse it regularly instead of letting the feeling slip awaaaaaaay....

It would appear that I have bucked the trend and gone the other way, 7.6 up to 9.0 since setting up a sim room just over a year ago. I struggled with the indoor swing and it totally wrecked my game in real life, also I didn't really use any of the data being provided I just wanted to smash everything as hard as I could, carry distance was all I really cared about.
Currently building a bigger sim room and have started practising with a purpose instead of trying to launch a driver as hard as I can. Still early days but it's already making a massive difference and golf has become fun again. Hopefully a few good comp results and I can get my handicap going the right way this year.

What are you focusing on? Are you working with the numbers somehow? I am working on GG as well but would want to combine it with the numbers I will get from the GC2.Originally posted by ncube View PostWent from 11 to 7 in a year and a half and if I can figure out how to two putt it'll get down to a two or three. I had a similar issue initially with my Optishot. I found that I needed to cleanly pick the ball off the unit or I had a huge loss of clubhead speed (which makes sense because you have to pass over to sets of LEDs and if I hit the mat before the second set, I would see the slowdown.) Completely messed up my swing IRL. With the Skytrak, I am not having that kind of issue and I swing the same on the SIM and IRL.Originally posted by simmb View PostIt would appear that I have bucked the trend and gone the other way, 7.6 up to 9.0 since setting up a sim room just over a year ago. This is my first 6 months with a sim room so will be curious to see how my index changes this season. Currently playing off a 5.1
Been playing for 30+ yrs now and have always been a right-to-left draw player (misses would be blocks and weak pull hooks) due to an overly inside/out clubpath - would see +6 degree paths regularly on launch monitors...couldn’t historically fade the ball intentionally to save my life!
however now over the winter have worked to zero out the clubpath more (correlate swing feels to clubpath numbers and ball flight) and have found a <somewhat> controllable L-R fade ballflight that 80% of the time works 70% of the time.
now I am getting used to it on the course and slowly gaining confidence in cutting the ball on purpose...it might help this season with my index but I can see how it could take some time...happy to have a potential new ballflight option that I have never had before though.
On the downside, shaving off the last few strokes will be all about chipping and putting, for which I find the launch monitor completely useless.
Pitching is great though- LM helps reinforce my groove for 30-90 yard wedge shots nicely...

I've never kept a real certified Handicap in my life but I did recently shoot 2 rounds under par in the SIM followed by an even par round then went and shot an 81 on course which is the best I've ever scored in my life so there's definitely something to all the playing I've done all winter carrying over to the course.
only problem is chipping from real grass that's a little long greenside gave me some issues. Got so used to the perfect lie with ball sitting on top and gliding right through it that I thinned a few chips on the real course and shot them across the green and gave my self long putts instead of very short ones. Gotta get some practice in for that but game has improved for sure.

Had my Protee since about 2013. Cured my 20 year problem with the hook in about 1 year once I realized what was happening based on the numbers. My handicap has fluctuated up and down over the 5 years with it hitting zero 18 mos ago and 4 rounds in the high 60’s during that run of play. I had never broken 70 in my life. I am currently a 6 handicap and although I would like to play IRL more, my sim allows me to practice every day and maintain good scoring on the course even though I only play 1 or 2 times/month. I do also have a face on and down the line camera i also use in conjunction with the sim data.
