Damn, didn't know we were playing the big boy version of the course lol....7000 yards is a task and the greens were moving pretty fast...tough round.

Hey tim, I actually made a legit 9. I drug my sorry ass and most of my clubs out of there eventually. Lol! I talked about the weird things that happened to me on page one of this thread.
In short, I ended up sticking one of those mega 60 degree wedge shots in the face of that cliff and chopped it out from there.
For the record I'm playing the hole as a short par 4 out to the left. I'm nervous already just thinking about my second round. Ha! What a game.

Haha kudos for getting out of there Gary. If my wife or kids heard me trying to get out of there they might of thought I was murdering someone. I am still sore. 2nd round I didn't even care and just whacked a 4 iron as hard as I could. Landed right on the green. Go figure. Best shots come when you don't have a single swing thought running through your head.

Question about green speeds while playing a tournament in TGC. Does the tournament overwrite whatever you have setup for green speeds in game? For instance, I have green speed set for 6 as that is more comparable to what I play on regularly. It seems I have to adjust quite a bit for faster greens during a tourney. If this is true, it's a bad idea to set your green speed at slower for practice rounds. Hopefully someone will shed some light on this.

Green speeds are supposed to be universal in speed for the sim version of TGC.Originally posted by GarySatterwhite View PostQuestion about green speeds while playing a tournament in TGC. I'm notoriously terrible at explaining myself. Let me rephrase and try again. Would lowering my green speed setting have any effect on green speed during tournament play? I think no, just trying to verify.
If no, I need to adjust my green speed setting to better reflect tournament speeds.
Apologies for being a pain in the ass.

The greens in tournaments are the same speed as when not in tournaments. ProTee set all green speeds and green firmness to be universal and they allow you to set to your preference. In the video game version green speeds and firmness are controlled In the design.
Sometimes people say greens seemed faster but that's like driving 80 in one car feels faster than 80 in another car.Last edited by mthunt; 02-10-2017, 04:04 AM.

mthunt said. My settings are about 11 feet and pretty firm. Here they are:
Green stimp=7
Green firmness=1
Green Speed=3
My settings are
Green stimp=6
Green firmness=2
Green Speed=3
So that means my rollout is less, correct?
My firmness is softer or harder????
Lastly, What is the difference between stimp and speed???

I am also using
Green stimp=7
Green firmness=1
Green Speed=3
I find that those setting most closely resemble the average green.
I think the greens are fine.... you just have to be careful that if you miss you are not hitting a downslope that will take you out of gimme range. I think that some players fail to look past the hole..... Is it a backstop or a big downhill? Sometimes putting defensively is the right play.

this will help

for me a 5 iron carrying 190 rolls 25-30 feet and a sand wedge spins back a few feet.Last edited by mthunt; 02-10-2017, 05:19 AM.My Courses:

Ok. Just to make it clear can someone explain how the Putting speed in the Protee interface plays into this. Is it independent or does one setting override the other. In other words, does the protee green speed override TGC or does TGC override Protee??

Setting the stimp to 6 made a world of difference. Much more playable now.
Now if I hadn't gone off the cliff on hole 5 and lost like 4-5 shots getting back up. Unplayable just kept me on the beach and below the cliff... Going off the cliffs hurts and I managed to do it 3 times. All in all a much better round and experience than last time. Thanks Mthunt for the settings information!
Also green speed option is no longer there. Just stimp and firmness.

If you turn up putting speed in ProTee and turn down stimp and green speed, when you chip the green will be slow. the ProTee setting is only when putting.Originally posted by Boerdoc View PostOk. Thanks, That is a perfect explanation.Originally posted by mthunt View Post

BTW, I changed my settings to 7,1,3 to match yours and played a round. Not much difference that I could tell. Very playable. I will keep it there.

This is my first tourament so I'm sorry if this has been discussed already. I hit a chip from 15 yards with 15 mph ball speed and the spin somehow was 4300 rpm which is about double what it normally is. The chip landed at about 9 yards are spun back. Is this a misread and would I be allowed to rewind? I have had this happen periodically on chips about 30 yards coming out with 8k rpm but never this close to the hole. I didn't rewind and probably would have missed the putt anyway. Just curious.

ProTee adjusted handicaps of players that didn't have shot recording on or players that took excessive rewinds. It looks like you have shot recording working now. Send ProTee a PM and ask to have your handicap calculated. This is necessary since some players wonder onto the tour without knowing about this forum or the tour rules. A few events back we had players shooting in the low 60's because they had their gimmes set at 50 feet.
